Feel horrible, temperature and cough which is hurting my chest and now have a wheeze. Can get air in but have to take long steady breaths.

When it is time to call for help?

I think you should ring 111 now.
Because it's affecting your breathing.
You may find they just give advice, but now is a sensible time to ring.

Obviously, 999 if you should go into real breathing difficulties.

Millions of us wish you well, and send wishes for a swift recovery.

Are you alone? If you in any doubt about whether its manageable at home you should call 111 for advice. Especially as you might have a wait. Fingers crossed you feel better soon xxx

YakkityYakYakYak · 26/03/2020 20:41

Now is the time OP. Call 999 if your breathing worsens or if you can’t get through to 111. They won’t send an ambulance if not necessary. Hope all okay

Evidencebased · 26/03/2020 20:42

And try NHS online, [[https://111.nhs.uk/ ]]

RedYellow4 · 26/03/2020 20:48

Thank you all I will monitor it over the next 30 minutes and decide what to do. I just wanted reassurance that calling 111 wouldn't be unreasonable at this stage. Thank you.

Agree with others that 111 is the best option although there may be a wait so if you get worse in that time definitely 999. Hope you're doing ok Thanks

browzingss · 26/03/2020 21:04

I’d recommend using the 111 online service before you call them though

Purplewithred · 26/03/2020 21:07

Use 111 online first, it will tell you whether you need to call. If you call be prepared for a wait. 111.nhs.uk/

browzingss · 26/03/2020 21:08

Because chances are you’d be given the same advice, but without the call wait time. Their wait times have been very long recently - think over an hour.

Breathing difficulties may mean that you need to call 999.

Evidencebased · 27/03/2020 08:53

@RedYellow4. Thinking of you and sending good wishes your way.

nellodee · 27/03/2020 08:57

This is on the NHS website about breathing problems and calling 999. It says that you should call 999 if you are taking more than 20 breaths per minute as an adult.

nellodee · 27/03/2020 08:58

Sorry, not the NHS, the British Lung Foundation.

susandelgado · 27/03/2020 11:44

As an asthmatic, we are told to ring 999 when your breathing is so bad that you are unable to speak. I should imagine it’s the same gif this? Good luck OP

susandelgado · 27/03/2020 11:45

Should read “as this” 🙄
