Non Vulnerable people getting sainsburys delivery?

snowyforest · 25/03/2020 23:36

Sister in law is able to get sainsburys delivery because prior to the whole coronavirus thing she had bought an annual delivery pass (she has admittedly bought one the past few years).

She doesn't have kids, is married and they have a car. I am in the same area to her, I have 2 young kids, I am married also but have no car. I was able to sign up to sainsburys and get a delivery 3 weeks ago but since then nothing.

I thought that sainsburys were only delivering to the elderly and vulnerable so how can a young, healthy couple get a slot when no one else can?

Just signed up for Tescoonline...accepted the registration but no delivery or click and collect available.....calendar goes up to 21 April so much for self isolation!

EffieIsATrinket · 26/03/2020 13:01

Am another delivery pass holder. Also NHS.

I'd be happy to switch to click n collect but that would involve a 2 hour drive.

No idea why they can't quickly set up click n collect at our local flagship store.

The weather is still cold enough that lack of proper refrigeration wouldn't bother me personally if they are trying to quickly build one of those wee huts. Change the slots to 1 hour ones, let people take their chance it they want and off we go. Stack of delivery trays in the car park with cones for queues.

Iris243 · 26/03/2020 13:12

Try places like moo2me- should be able to get some fresh veg etc. although it can be a little more pricey.

Try not to be resentful. Remember there is always someone worse off than you.

NaturalBornWoman · 26/03/2020 13:15

Everyone with a delivery pass should be refunded and a new system open only to those who truly need it set up.

What? You CF! You think that loyal customers who always shop online should be binned because you have kids and can’t drive? Sort yourself out and make a plan. I’m using my Ocado slots to shop for four families, your SIL can share with you.

Marieo · 26/03/2020 13:19

Supermarkets are commercial enterprises, their sole purpose is to make money, under the guise of serving communities. Just because they put out a virtue signalling claim which they then realiaed would be near on impossible to implement properly, they aren't responsible for ensuring everyone has food. The government have things coming into play soon for those who have to shield, everyone else has to make do. They wouldn't be able to provide slots for everyone who doesn't have a car or is isolating, seems fair to give a slot to a pass holder to be honest. They do not want them leaving for another supermarket once this is over (see point 1).

BilboBercow · 26/03/2020 13:21

This is turning into fucking Salem on here. People constantly looking for reasons to shame others.

babasaclover · 26/03/2020 13:30

Why don't you ask her to get whatever you need? She can then leave it on her doorstep and you can walk round and get it without touching each other

awkwardbuttons · 26/03/2020 13:35

I've had a delivery pass for 6 months and heard absolutely nothing from Sainsbury, and cannot book a slot either, only click and collect is open (never any slots). Are other delivery pass holders getting access to delivery now?

Wejustdontknow · 26/03/2020 13:36

I honestly can’t believe the cf’s on this thread that think they should take priority over people who have always shopped online just because we are in a pandemic. I always shop online so have a delivery pass and a reoccurring slot which means it is saved automatically for me each week and people actually think that now they don’t want to go out they should have priority over me because they don’t drive or have children. How did you do your shop previous to this if you didn’t have a car or take the kids, you will just have to do that now same as everyone else who never used delivery before

EffieIsATrinket · 26/03/2020 13:41

Nope awkwardbuttons.

Unable to get deliveries booked at all despite being pass holder.

Mammatino · 26/03/2020 13:42

I don't shop online. My Sil has a pass and a weekly slot, she's a carer for her very poorly mum who lives with her. She's offered to share with me and my mum. Lovely. I don't resent her because she's got a slot and I haven't. They are very loyal customers who have paid for the privilege.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 26/03/2020 13:44

I can't get anywhere with sainsburys delivery and I'm on the extremely vulnerable list. Or any other delivery for that matter.

Have registered as suggested on their site and still getting the 'tough shit no delivery' message.

I think it's just a PR stunt.

I wish they hadn't bothered with the shielding messages:

avoid your own kids and DH for 12 weeks-how?

Don't go out at all-but no delivery...

People like to think something's happening when in reality nothing is.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 26/03/2020 13:48

ASDA has a queue even to get on the site.

Morrison's food box thing sold out.

ClientQueen · 26/03/2020 13:49

@Wejustdontknow I alternate between going to the supermarket and shopping online with whichever supermarket I feel like that week
But no, I can't go out and get food now so that's not an option

NewYearNewJob123 · 26/03/2020 13:49

Call 101. Now.

Marieo · 26/03/2020 13:51

@MangePasTesOnglesVilain have you filled out the form on the gov website? If you are on the shielding list you will get help with deliveries, just not from a supermarket necessarily.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 26/03/2020 13:54

Marieo

Yes, I have. The website still says I'm not recognised as vulnerable. There's some mention of things changing in a week or so?

Cohle · 26/03/2020 13:55

It’s awful isn’t it, so unfair. Everyone with a delivery pass should be refunded and a new system open only to those who truly need it set up.

But you don't truly need it OP Confused

playthestation · 26/03/2020 14:07

I think I'm more in need then she is but we'll see.

Oh dear. A post fuelled by jealousy. Not good OP, not good.

Cohle · 26/03/2020 14:10

I don't think Sainsbury's need to change their entire allocation system because OP doesn't like her sister in law tbh.

Waspnest · 26/03/2020 14:30

I think I'm more in need then she is but we'll see.

I'm assuming you didn't tell her that when you asked if she could possibly order stuff for you? Hmm

I think you are VVU just for your attitude towards your SIL.

DowntownAbby · 26/03/2020 18:37

It’s awful isn’t it, so unfair. Everyone with a delivery pass should be refunded and a new system open only to those who truly need it set up.

You want them to bin off their loyal, steady customers and give people like you their delivery slots so that they lose the loyal customers - who would rightly be disgusted and would never shop with them again - and also lose the 'new' ones when you decide you've had enough of using them.

You are utterly bonkers if you think that's going to happen, or that it should.

FoodieToo · 26/03/2020 18:52

Cannot believe OP that you think someone like me with a delivery pass who has been an online shopper for years spending an average of 250 euro a week should be dumped in favour of you because you don't drive !!!!

How deluded and selfish can you be ???

I wouldn't mind giving my slot to someone who actually needed it.

Wejustdontknow · 26/03/2020 20:41

@FoodieToo I don’t think anybody who was able would mind giving up their slot for somebody who genuinely needed it, I know I wouldn’t but the op is saying she deserves a slot because she doesn’t drive and has children. She hasn’t as far as I know said she or anyone in the house has any health issues so she is no more deserving of a slot than anyone else
