Non Vulnerable people getting sainsburys delivery?

snowyforest · 25/03/2020 23:36

Sister in law is able to get sainsburys delivery because prior to the whole coronavirus thing she had bought an annual delivery pass (she has admittedly bought one the past few years).

She doesn't have kids, is married and they have a car. I am in the same area to her, I have 2 young kids, I am married also but have no car. I was able to sign up to sainsburys and get a delivery 3 weeks ago but since then nothing.

I thought that sainsburys were only delivering to the elderly and vulnerable so how can a young, healthy couple get a slot when no one else can?

@ClientQueen : Letters/texts for extremely vulnerable shieders, still being rolled out.
Instructions say, if you've not heard by 29th March, phone your GP.

ClientQueen · 26/03/2020 00:23

@Wingedharpy I'm keeping an eye out - my GP doesn't even send me a flu jab letter so my expectations remain low Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/03/2020 00:34

We order from Sainsbury’s about twice a month. The email I got said priority for vulnerable customers, not only slots for vulnerable customers. Our neighbours offered to put stuff for us on their delivery that came yesterday, we will do likewise. Can’t your sister add your shopping to her order and you pick it up? (Although if there are restrictions on number of items eg only 2 x milk I understand that won’t work.)

snowyforest · 26/03/2020 00:36

Thanks Ill call tomorrow and see if she can add my stuff to her order.

Can your DH shop after his shift at the supermarket?

DowntownAbby · 26/03/2020 00:40

I think a lot of people have misunderstood what they announced. Sainsbury's were going to contact their existing customers - i.e. those with delivery passes - who were identified as vulnerable/disabled and try to arrange delivery slots for them.

They weren't talking about new customers.

SleepyNightOwl · 26/03/2020 00:41

She probably booked in advance. That’s how I’ve a few booked.

CuppaZa · 26/03/2020 00:43

As PP have said, you aren’t vulnerable. You have kids and no car. That doesn’t prioritise you. You can ask SIL to add to her order, or if too late I’m assuming that your husband will be at home at least ONE day soon to either go shopping our watch his kids while you go.

Wingedharpy · 26/03/2020 01:04

@ClientQueen : As long as you know what you should be doing, that's the main thing👍

Proseccoh · 26/03/2020 01:37

It's definitely bullshit. I've bought the bloody pass for years, and have enjoyed 2-4 deliveries per week (I feed my own 3 children plus up to 8 others each week night). I'm also a single mum of 3, so although that doesn't make us vulnerable, it does mean i never wanted to drag them around the supermarket, especially when 2 of them are showing 'symptoms' and we're in lockdown. No available slots, checking multiple times per day. No emails from them for days. No loyalty or care whatsoever, and if the OP post is genuine my blood is boiling.

On top of that, I'm seeing posts on FB from their staff locally, saying they don't feel safe, no extra safety measures, even for workers over 70 (only offered SSP to drop work). If we survive our 14 day quarantine I'll be actively searching local small business to supply our future needs.

Willowkins · 26/03/2020 01:57

I am a loyal customer of Sainsbury's and we got a delivery every week for years. MrW worked for Sainsbury's - was still working there a few weeks before he died - and he liked the quality so I stayed. But I haven't been able to get anything from Sainsbury's for weeks. No click-and-collect slots and delivery slots are literally hopeless. I have tried to ring to say my DS and I are both have underlying health conditions. But you can't get through. I have emailed. But there is no answer. I am so disappointed and a little bit frightened if I am honest. Asda and Iceland are my new best friends. Sainsbury's let me down and I probably won't go back Sad

Proseccoh · 26/03/2020 02:02

Seems especially unfair how these big boys are profiting from these recent circumstances.

PowerslidePanda · 26/03/2020 04:57

I snorted with disbelief at some of the stuff in their most recent email...

Our customer Careline has been inundated with requests from elderly and vulnerable customers – we have had one year's worth of contacts in two weeks.

It's pretty clear from Mumsnet that this is because they're not answering the calls and people had to try over and over to get through. I suspect the number of customers to their Careline is far lower than the number of calls.

Changes we've made already, including limiting the number of items customers can buy... are all working well

No they're not - I'm a mum to twin babies and they won't let me buy enough nappies or formula. Twins Trust have written to them about this, I have too, they've ignored us both - and it's "working well"?! Angry

. If everyone who shops in store also shops for a person who is less able, it will go a long way towards getting food to everyone who needs it.

And how exactly are their item limits (which are working well, apparently!) in support of this?

PowerslidePanda · 26/03/2020 05:05

I'm another regular Sainsbury's online customer without a delivery pass, so won't even be getting so much as a click and collect slot in their "second wave" of priorities. The reason I don't have a pass is that I get my delivery on a weekday evening and spend more than £100 each time, so it's free. Willing to bet I spend more with them than the average delivery pass customer. And while I'm not in the government's extremely vulnerable group, I'm certainly more vulnerable than the average customer (our entire household began self-isolating before even social distancing was put in place). But I can't prove it, so I can't shop at Sainsbury's any more. Thank goodness their competitors are at least giving me a fighting chance at getting a slot - that won't be forgotten when this is all over.

LittleLittleLittle · 26/03/2020 05:07

@PowerslidePanda Sainsburys are full of crap.

I've managed to book deliveries from Morrisons and Asda. My nearest Morrisons store is miles away.

I've been able to contact Asda on social media.

Sainsburys don't let people who are shielding who are customers:

  1. Book deliveries
  2. Contact them in anyway
Whoever thought of their marketing campaign at this time should be ashamed of themselves as Sainsburys have shown themselves to be completely incompetent in a time of crisis.
MsChatterbox · 26/03/2020 05:09

Not the point of the thread but when I was at uni I would take a suitcase to carry my shopping home whilst walking. At least this way you could minimise how often you need to go?

1300cakes · 26/03/2020 06:52

I'm afraid a change in policy wouldnt help you OP as not having a car doesn't make you a vulnerable person. Nor does having kids.

Anyway how would they know you don't have a car? Unless you think sainsburys should be able to somehow access dvla records and birth registrations, and cross reference them with requests for deliveries so they can can prioritise you.

PowerslidePanda · 26/03/2020 07:53

@LittleLittleLittle Too right! I've got Asda slots booked instead too, but Tesco also would have been an option. Agree that this PR stunt has gone badly wrong for Sainsbury's and lost them a lot of their regular customers.

swishthecat · 26/03/2020 08:16

ClientQueen have you tried registering on the gov.uk site, apparantly the info will then be sgared with Sainsbury's. Or so they say in their recorded message.

www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

snowyforest · 26/03/2020 08:36

@Proseccoh I’m afraid it is true, I personally don’t think it’s right either and feel other people should be a priority. Having thought about it the situation may vary region to region across the U.K. so perhaps there is just more availability here.

She has agreed to add some things for me to her shop and deliver them to me tomorrow so that’s something at least.

OP posts:
snowyforest · 26/03/2020 08:40

@PowerslidePanda

Sainsbury’s aren’t accepting any new sign ups to their home delivery or collection slots either so if you used to have alternative arrangements but now need home delivery due to the coronavirus you’re stuffed!

OP posts:
Itsnotthatcomplicated · 26/03/2020 08:47

I know I'm being unreasonable but it sucks.

Tbh, I think we all feel like this about certain things.

angstridden2 · 26/03/2020 08:48

Another one here in vulnerable group. I spend over£100 each week in Sainsbury’s but never shop online,, so now of course I can’t sign up for delivery or click and collect so will eventually have to go out.

Won’t be patronising Sainsbury’s after all this.

snowyforest · 26/03/2020 08:50

@angstridden2 It’s awful isn’t it, so unfair. Everyone with a delivery pass should be refunded and a new system open only to those who truly need it set up.

ClientQueen · 26/03/2020 09:39

@swishthecat yes have registered Smile so hopefully that helps
