How many in supermarket at once?

Apolloanddaphne · 25/03/2020 09:05

I haven't been to the supermarket in a while. Are they restricting how many go in at once and how many you have in your party? My local one is Morrisons.

I will go myself if I need to but I would be faster with DD pushing the trolley and me getting what we need. Is single and slower better than double and faster? Or not? Just musing here.

The advice is to go alone!

Apolloanddaphne · 25/03/2020 09:09

Thank you. Where is that advice? I must be looking in the wrong place.

My local Tesco is requesting one person/one trolley.

Apolloanddaphne · 25/03/2020 09:13

Seems sensible.

Our local Aldi has said no more than 80 at one time. Which seems quite a lot to me as it's not massive.

SapphireSalute · 25/03/2020 09:15

Keep your kid AT HOME!!!

It’s one person

Why do you think you are special? Us retail workers do NOT want your kids in our stores

SpiltMilk100 · 25/03/2020 09:15

And yes no couples/families/kids!

Toybox88 · 25/03/2020 09:16

My DH is still working and not home til late. How do I go shopping with my kids? I could put them in the trolley to stop them touching things? I could leave them on their own in the car maybe with tablets? although that scares me a bit. They're 4 and 6.

Apolloanddaphne · 25/03/2020 09:17

My kid is a 22 yo adult!

Except for all the single parents of course

Apolloanddaphne · 25/03/2020 09:21

Really I am only musing as I said before. I have been even passed a supermarket for ages. I have no idea what they are doing and how they are managing things. I am more than happy to go alone. That is what I usually do anyway.

*Haven't been.

Breastfeedingworries · 25/03/2020 09:26

It’s meant to be one person per family, but my dd is 16 months and I’m single parent so not sure how we’ll manage soon. Have lot of food in so far.

SapphireSalute · 25/03/2020 09:29

Then you go alone!! One person!

The message just isn’t getting through is it? I’m not sure why people are being so thick?

monty09 · 25/03/2020 09:37

I'm a single parent with 4 children! I can't go alone as no one to watch them... How am I meant to do my shopping? Every time I try and book online there all gone.

@SapphireSalute*

You know, this is a new situation for everybody. I understand your frustration at people who are wilfully bending and breaking the rules and putting everybody else at risk, I really do, but being unpleasant any calling people thick is still out of order. There are plenty of grey areas here. Single parents with children too young to be left alone, disabled people who struggle to shop without support. Everybody is trying to make sense of things and find the best way forward. It would be ideal if they could all get shopping delivered but right now, they can't. So they're posting on here to try to find helpful suggestions. So how about you stop being so bloody nasty to people and try to be constructive for a bit?

Apolloanddaphne · 25/03/2020 10:18

The thing is I went on the website for my local store and all it said was that they were operating an NHS hour at 7am and the cafe is now takeaway only. You would think if they are limiting numbers in and out they would make that clear?

I am not being thick, I am just musing on something as I have said endlessly. I am also musing on the best time to go and whether it is okay to go to several stores to try and get what I need. I thought that was what MN was for. People have become very unkind lately. I know there is a global pandemic ongoing but there is no need for nastiness.

My local Asda is operating a one in one out system although they weren't restricting group numbers. There were large family groups wandering around.....it's made me quite angry.

playthestation · 25/03/2020 10:24

Tbh if it's quicker with your DD then send her!

My 18 year old has been doing our shopping for the past 2 weeks now, every other day she has been going in for a few bits. Stock has improved a lot since last week so she will be able to cut the amount of visits down down somewhat

SmileyClare · 25/03/2020 10:35

I think this a good thread. Lots of people are wondering what to expect when they next do a food shop. It's best to be prepared for what has changed.
As far as I can see from news reports, expect the following;

  • queuing outside when supermarket is at its maximum capacity (numbers of shoppers restricted) then expect a one out, one in system
  • 2 metre distance enforced when queuing for checkout,
  • markers on floor to follow social distancing
-till operators working behind partial screens

I'm expecting the shop to take much longer than usual. Anticipate a long wait to get into the store.

Let's all stop taking our frustration and anger out on each other. I'm sick of seeing posts shouting in capitals, calling other posters idiots and so on.

Apolloanddaphne · 25/03/2020 10:40

Thanks @SmileyClare that information is very helpful. That is exactly the sort of stuff I need to know.

LizzieMacQueen · 25/03/2020 10:40

Good thread. I'm walking with sticks at the moment so my options would be 1) send someone else or 2) have someone with me to navigate the trolley. I'd rather 2) then I'm there, I can make on the spot decisions. But would that not be allowed?

MiniMum97 · 25/03/2020 10:41

Well said @Matildathehun77 It's a perfectly reasonable question and this should be a good forum in which these questions are asked as we all work this out.

Waspnest · 25/03/2020 10:44

So are the shops generally better stocked now? I haven't been out for about 5 days because we have plenty of food but elderly vulnerable neighbours who last week said they were fine and had plenty of food yesterday presented me with a long list of food plus a prescription that they need. Hmm

Vulnerable PILs have just done the same.

Apolloanddaphne · 25/03/2020 10:46

Another question is about the quantity of things I can buy. Are all items restricted? Fruit, veg cereal, tins etc? And wine??
