Where did all these joggers bumping into everyone come from?

Out walking my dog at 8.30am (park is shut until further notice) and on a small quiet road there were 22+ joggers all almost bumping into each other, almost went into me / my dog despite trying to keep out their way.

I am out with my dog every day and even in the park there is usually no more than 2 lone joggers at any one time. Where have all these people come from??? Again I repeat... I am out everyday and there are never this many people even in the park. I feel bad for people who do jog daily and dog walkers or people who have no option but to have a little walk outside as they can't elsewhere. These people were jogging in pairs and taking up all the room on the pavement. I understand that they may be following the guidelines given last night (one outing for exercise per day) but it just seemed crazy how so many came out at once!

Funny thing is that I saw less dog walkers than normal but more joggers lol!

Italy limited outdoor exercising privileges to being 200m from your home max, at this rate I won't be too surprised if it happens here.

Exercising is super important especially at a time where most will be stuck at home, but the newbies could possibly try to workout at home? I have no garden, but I luckily have a skipping rope and will be doing some bodyweight youtube workouts for an hour a day to get my fix... and I'm used to going to the gym 4 times a week lifting fairly heavy weights which I will miss Sad .

Because the gyms are closed?

Greendin · 24/03/2020 11:59

DP is jogging everyday because his gym is closed, it's that or a bike ride.

He's doesn't want to do nothing and put on weight!

browzingss · 24/03/2020 11:59

The roads don’t belong to you because you’re a dog owner. You literally have no more right to use them than anyone else.

newbies could possibly try to workout at home?

Er, or you could stay at home too? Would certainly stop the amount of dog shit left on the pavements in my area.

Now that we’re officially in lockdown, allowing people to leave their house to exercise is vital to prevent a mental health crisis, hence why Boris didn’t add a complete ban on leaving your house. Your need isn’t greater than the joggers that you came across.

mumoffluffs · 24/03/2020 12:01

I'm more concerned about people passing it to one another due to the close proximity and heavy breathing - no social distancing was going on where I was walking

Codswalloped · 24/03/2020 12:05

Gyms are closed, Boris has said we can go outside for exercise.

Why shouldn’t they? They’re not doing anything wrong.

There seems to be a lot of hatred for exercisers on here today!

mochajoes · 24/03/2020 12:07

of course more people are out. People are usually in work for one.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 24/03/2020 12:07

I think it’s because gyms are closed and people don’t want a massive arse at the end of this.

Mumnanny27 · 24/03/2020 14:40

Her entire point was that it’s been said NO SOCIALISING. NO MEETING UP/SEEING OTHER PEOPLE OTHER THAN YOUR HOUSEHOLD, but there are 20+ meeting up for a run together?! How the hell is that following the guidelines?! There’s nothing wrong with going on a run but DO IT BY YOURSELF. Keep yourself safe, and other for goodness sake!!

They are doing something wrong- you guys meeting up and not following the government rules will be the reason we’re going to end up way worse than Italy. So please just follow rules!!

supercee · 24/03/2020 14:47

Why should newbies to exercise stay home and do it?! You don't have any more right to the road/open space than I do.

I go for a light jog in the morning. Your dog is probably more of a risk to me than I am to you.

mumoffluffs · 24/03/2020 14:56

hmmmm next dog training session - teach dog to scare off people not social distancing Wink

OP posts:
mumoffluffs · 24/03/2020 15:01

Why is everyone so keen to follow the rule of exercising outside (once per day) but ignoring the 2m social distancing rule? Can't really pick and choose you know.

No problem with people jogging - my problem is with the lack of social distancing and no regard for others (not just me) using the pavement.

I am sure the majority of joggers are responsible and sensible, but this morning was a joke.

Having had to turn my head bto avoid a heavy breathing, perspiring jogger this morning I know what you mean.

He looked knackered, was just about spent and wobbled towards me and the dog.

I turned my head and shouted 'what the duck?' and he waved a hand and wobbled on. Not impressed.

But I posted in the local runners Facebook and they have put up a message for all members to take greater care (yes, he was wearing their t shirt). Hopefully he'll think twice tomorrow!

I'll let the dog trip him up if he doesn't Wink

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/03/2020 15:05

Duck?! Fuck off autocorrect. I was being annoyed, not coy!

Applejaxx · 24/03/2020 15:05

I don't know OP. Ive always jogged outdoors, and when out and have never seen so many other joggers when out and about.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 24/03/2020 15:14

My son is out jogging now. Not usually out jogging but he plays rugby etc at school and does his exercise there a lot.
Dh and I usually are out with 1 hour commutes either way. Not going out for 10 days now other than an evening walk is making us stir crazy. More active people than us may well be going on a jog at 6am hoping to see no one.

Having said that, it's probably like January at the gym. Give it a week, they'll all have muscle pain be at home.

mumoffluffs · 24/03/2020 15:18

@CuriousaboutSamphire @Mumnanny27 thank you for understanding!

Considering getting my dog to hunt down the inconsiderate ones for food the next time the shops are all empty Grin

Disclaimer - no issue with joggers who do keep social distancing and are considerate!

When I went to take my bin in this morning I was nearly flattened by a sweating panting jogger and I never see anyone jogging down our road. 🤷‍♀️

mumoffluffs · 24/03/2020 15:22

@MangoesAreMyFavourite agreed, they probably will drop off after a week of new year's coronavirus lockdown resolutions, then hopefully it will just be the sensible outdoor joggers/runners around.

We live near an open space, and usual see lots of dog walkers passing our house. All today I've seen is joggers! So many! It's ridiculous!

SoleBizzz · 24/03/2020 15:27

Why do dog walkers feel they own parks?

cologne4711 · 24/03/2020 15:29

Fine to go out alone or with one other person (or with someone from your family).

Not fine to go out in a big group.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/03/2020 15:29

I think you might have missed the point OP was actually making...

Deelish75 · 24/03/2020 15:31

I live near a park which is still open, seen so many joggers go past my window.
Hardly seen any families though, must be because they've closed the playground.

mumoffluffs · 24/03/2020 15:36

@SoleBizzz please do read my post carefully as my post was not about parks (mine is shut anyway). Me and my dog do move out of people's way as we are as considerate as possible - I know some dog walkers may not be.

Personally as a dog walker - I don't feel I own the parks.

ScarlettBlaize · 24/03/2020 16:09

It's because they've closed the gyms. I would far rather be in a gym than jogging, but have no choice. However, I've been jogging VERY late at night (11pm or later) when the streets are empty.
