Plea right here from NHS staff

So I got to my hospital this morning an hour early and thought I'd have a coffee before the onslaught.
I was rung right then to say a colleague is off sick today can you go to the other hospital in the next town, we work between the two in emergencies.
Normally this would take me three quarters of an hour in normal rush hour traffic.
Today it took me two hours of agonisingly slow traffic.
The roads - even after last nights message from Boris were absolutely heaving, whole families in cars, elderly in cars, people with multiple bikes on their roof racks in cars, it was never ending.
What the ACTUAL FUCK is wrong with people, we have been told to stay in - so stay in. Stay the fuck at home.
It seems like the lemmings, totally confused by the loss of their normal routines have actually gone mad.
There were still people out and about in every town and village I drove through.
For the last week people whose routine appointments with physio, podiatry and orthopaedic clinics to make way for emergencies have been coming in screaming abuse at us and having to be removed by security.
Apparently we are using the virus as "an excuse".
Elderly people are coming in in droves angry that routine clinics have been cancelled and kicking up a fuss.
Quite honestly I won't even talk to them, I don't want to contract it by angry spittle flying my way because that's what it's come to now.
People are behaving like animals.
What the hell is wrong with everyone. What part of stay at home don't people understand.
We are only seeing emergencies now, people who would otherwise die if they didn't come in. I know it's crap and I know it's awful having to be in the house all the time but it's not the fault of the hospital staff.
I don't particularly want to be here at risk of getting sick everyday but I do what I'm paid to do.
Please will you all just get the hell off the roads and stay at home.
I hope Boris brings the army in next because that's what we need.

So sorry OP.

I can totally believe what you're saying because the roads here are busier than ever

Hope this non essential traffic problem is resolved by more punitive measures soon

Thank you for the work you're doing Flowers

SociallyDistanced · 24/03/2020 12:36

Can someone please post a limk to this thread on the Driving to the woods to exercise thread please?

I don't know how to do it.

There are loads of people on there carrying on with plans to drive to pretty places for their daily exercise. Comments like, there's no poloce there so we'll never get caught!Angry
They just don't get it.Sad

I agree op. On my way to work this morning I saw more people out and about then I would on a average tues. they just don't seem to get it. Plus I live on a main road and it's just like another day.

Bring in the army.

The80sweregreat · 24/03/2020 12:44

I'm sorry. Unbelievable behaviour

Pomegranatepompom · 24/03/2020 12:46

My commute to work makes me more fearful than actually being in work @ a London nhs trust.

definitelygc · 24/03/2020 12:48

It's absolutely infuriating when so many of us are making major sacrifices to stay indoors. Can people really not last 3 weeks without a bloody family bike ride? For goodness sakes. We need the police to start enforcing this and giving people on the spot fines.

DowntonCrabby · 24/03/2020 12:49

Bellends. You really have to wonder about the humanity we’re trying to save.

The80sweregreat · 24/03/2020 12:56

If they become ill maybe the relatives should be questioned as to what they were doing prior to becoming poorly.
They will lie I know but some might admit they didn't stay in.
This is bonkers as people will become so bored they will start to go out ( the ones whose been doing it for a while) if they think everyone else is getting away with it why can't we?
Madness. Do they think this virus isn't real?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 24/03/2020 12:56

It just beggars belief! Why do these people think they are special? DH and I have stayed home for nearly 2 weeks now (was lucky enough to get a supermarket delivery) - we were going out for a little drive most days but have stopped that since Saturday - and you do get used to it.

I am afraid that younger people have never experienced a situation where they are not free to do just what they want to and are kicking against it. This is what happens when discipline is not enforced at school or home. Before anyone says anything, yes I know some elderly people are being very irresponsible too - my own 85-year old aunt has been merrily having her hair and nails done, going shopping, etc. She won't listen to me.

SingingSands · 24/03/2020 12:59

I'm WFH full time now and the last few days have been eye opening. My street has a decent spread of ages from young families, to teens, to middle aged couples/singles and the elderly.

All the families have observed the rules - despite knowing how hard it is, the children have not gone out to play in the street with each other. My kids practically live next door and vice versa, they're more like siblings than neighbours and yet we have observed the "stay at home" rules.

In contrast, most of my elderly neighbours are out and about - popping into each other's houses and gardens. One couple across from me have had visits from 3 different cars today - all family members who do not live with them. My next-door-but-one neighbour had two visitors who arrived together in their car and went into her house. These are not vulnerable elderly neighbours, they are all active, without carers, most still drive and as neighbours we have their phone numbers to call on them and check if they need supplies, or just a chat.

I'm disappointed and it's not by the people who I thought I would be.

H1ghC0r0na · 24/03/2020 13:00

For the last week people whose routine appointments with physio, podiatry and orthopaedic clinics to make way for emergencies
Are you saying your hospital has cancelled all these people's appointments or are they receiving care in a different way: postponed, at home, over the phone advice and prescriptions home delivered?

Kordelia · 24/03/2020 13:02

That's awful, OP.

However I've just been out for my one walk of the day with the dog and although there was some traffic it was much less than usual.

There were a few people out for a walk, but again, not many at all.

I don't know what the town centre's like but with shops and cafes closed I think it's likely to be quiet..

The80sweregreat · 24/03/2020 13:04

My friend (67) said last week that this was all silly and hyperbole and she can do what she wants. Her husband is quiet Ill with underlying conditions so he stays in but she goes out and about! Madness.

HyacynthBucket · 24/03/2020 13:11

So sorry OP and thank you for carrying on for us all. People seem to be incredibly dense and slow to latch on. But after Boris last night, it is hard to believe that people are loading up bikes and going on family trips. He said "Stay at home". He will need to spell out even more clearly what one daily exercise is, and not congregating,. I hope they bring the army in, and on the spot fines, In Spain, where I was recently the Guardia Civil had roadblocks and checks on drivers. Instant large fines too.

HyacynthBucket · 24/03/2020 13:15

I should have said as well that in Spain it is only one person per car unless taking a vulnerable person to hospital, or similar. It is being rigorously enforced. I just hope these dense selfish people can be dealt with by sufficient police/army here.

Elieza · 24/03/2020 13:16

It’s frightening. This country raised a load of self centred, ignorant, spoiled, entitled idiots.
Sigh
My nurse friend is having to deal first hand with all the arseholes of the day. While she has been issued absolutely no PPE. No mask. Nothing. It’s a joke.

Michelleoftheresistance · 24/03/2020 13:17

As an exercise in Darwinism it's going to be those able to follow instructions, problem solve, think of others and cope with delayed gratification who make it. It appears that delayed gratification skills aren't just a forecast of educational success with toddlers.

However it's the NHS staff who will be taken down by these utter bellends incapable of thinking about anything but them, what they want and how no one is going to inconvenience them. So sorry OP, thank you for what you are doing.

Nestofvipers · 24/03/2020 13:33

@NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite

We have been told to STAY IN (apart from some very limited essential things). The problem is many people seem to interpret this as essential is “anything I really want to do” and once I’ve done all of that I might think about staying home around it.

The vast majority of people are the rule not the exception, but everyone wants to act like they’re the exception.

Pomegranatepompom · 24/03/2020 13:38

Drs/nurses are dying. Quite frankly I’m petrified of going to work. I can’t express how it saddens me that people have so little respect for other people’s lives. It particularly grates that people are putting nhs staff at greater risk because they don’t think rules apply to them.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 24/03/2020 14:08

Nest I saw that too and want to scream.

Dannn · 24/03/2020 14:29

Couldn’t agree more. It’s took me almost 2 hours to get to work yesterday and so was late despite leaving 30 minutes earlier than normal. This meant my colleague who had just done a 12.5 hour shift in full PPE looking after 2 critically ill Covid-19 positive patients had to stay 30 minutes after the end of her shift before I arrived to take over.

STAY THE FUCK AT HOME!

Babyroobs · 24/03/2020 14:32

It's very quiet here today. I had to pop to the supermarket early for my elderly dad and it was very quiet and then took the dog for a short walk and again very quiet. No sign of any police enforcing anything though, there were some groups of more than 2 people but may have been family groups.
