I know Boris said he will review in 3 weeks but do you think it will go on longer? Just curious

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 24/03/2020 10:13

Until June.

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2020 10:16

That’s anyone’s guess, in three weeks they either tighten further or lift some restrictions. It all depends on what happens with the virus, the state of the nhs and any advances on viral treatments.

donquixotedelamancha · 24/03/2020 10:18

12-18 months.

endofthelinefinally · 24/03/2020 10:20

I am sure it will go on for longer because of the behaviour of the selfish and stupid.
I have been isolating for weeks now and will have to continue for another 12 weeks.

Single2catsand1daughter · 24/03/2020 10:21

Restrictions will be tightened after 3 weeks.

Connie222 · 24/03/2020 10:22

Judging from the threads on here and other forums from stupid people who either don’t understand or who don’t want to understand the rules, I’d say we are in this for the long haul.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 24/03/2020 10:23

Our numbers are following/ exceeding Italy so much longer than 3 weeks. More like 3 months.

isittheholidaysyet · 24/03/2020 10:25

12 weeks minimum.

ShanghaiDiva · 24/03/2020 10:25

Depends what happens to the number of cases.
In my city in China it has taken just over two months. Schools are rumoured to be going back next week, but not yet confirmed. There are some new cases now as people are returning, but numbers are small and quarantine is strict so not a problem to manganese, but clearly still worrying.

Crackerofdoom · 24/03/2020 10:26

Depends on how many unnecessary shops stay open claiming to be "essential" and how many people carry on ignoring the rules because they are "special"

wildthingsinthenight · 24/03/2020 10:27

12 weeks

IWantToBreakFreee · 24/03/2020 10:27

I think 12 weeks.
The post who said 12-17 months Hmm

OP posts:
ShanghaiDiva · 24/03/2020 10:27

However, restrictions were much tighter in China with compulsory temp checking, compulsory attendance at hospital if you had any symptoms and excellent tracking of contacts.

user1471439240 · 24/03/2020 10:31

This isn’t lockdown though is it? Its a test ballon to get us used to real control, if that needs to come. Remember the cases announced daily are from infections up to possibly 2 weeks ago.

IpeartreeI · 24/03/2020 10:32

I think people with still break restrictions and they'll have to get stricter and involve the army.

They'll quite rightly point out that the population had their chance and still couldn't comply.

People never fail to disappoint in my experience.

madcatladyforever · 24/03/2020 10:32

5 minutes by the state of the roads this morning. Cars everywhere.

feelingverylazytoday · 24/03/2020 10:34

It depends on our figures, obviously. I think they've estimated for 3 months of social distancing /soft lockdown (which is what I would guess we're on now). But that requires a high level of compliance.

PristineCondition · 24/03/2020 10:36

At least 6-8 weeks

People on here are still out and about seen lots of posts about people heading to the shops for essential paint to do the garden shed or off to 11 shops to get essential bits like yoghurt or soft fruit my three adult boys need to survive.

Poor Johnny will wither without his fresh hand picked rasps

endofthelinefinally · 24/03/2020 10:36

South East Asia have dealt with this so much better than Europe.
I think we are going to come off very badly because people just will not comply.
It is either stupidity or arrogance or a mixture of both.
Those of us who are already sick/immunosuppressed will die because of the selfishness of these people.
People complaining about flights coming in need to understand that the UK has to ban the flights.
South East Asian countries are putting strict rules in place for their own citizens returning home, but they can't stop aircraft belonging to other countries from leaving.

CoronaVera · 24/03/2020 10:41

Months. Maybe three months. But hopefully shorter.

Dongdingdong · 24/03/2020 10:44

Six weeks.

zen1 · 24/03/2020 10:45

I would think at least three months, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it went on for 5 or 6. I don’t think schools will be back in September (but hope I’m wrong!).

MadeleineMaxwell · 24/03/2020 10:47

12-18 months is based on finding and trialling a successful vaccine. According to some, it's the only way we can quash this thing for good and that's how long they generally take to produce.

If we lift restrictions, the virus resurfaces, we lock down again. An efficient vaccine is the only real ultimate solution.

Things may well change, breakthroughs are possible, but I wouldn't want an untested vaccine, personally. They have to make sure it won't make things worse.

Chersfrozenface · 24/03/2020 10:50

The paper by researchers at Imperial College, which is steering Government policy, foresees waves of suppression (social distancing, plus perhaps closure of educational establishments), plus continuous home isolation of symptomatic cases and household quarantine, until at least November 2021.

So at least 18 months, in one form or another.

I can try to link to the paper, if you want.

Pipandmum · 24/03/2020 10:51

Under his current restrictions I'd say at least five weeks. That's if people get serious and follow them! I think it will take a few days for people to get to grips with it. By them we will have passed the critical Italy comparison and they may slowly start to reverse the restrictions.
