Can I drive 5 miles to walk in the woods?

R2221 · 23/03/2020 22:12

Just that really. We’ve been isolating for over a week and these woods are the only thing that kept us sane. Isolated woods - not many people there. Those we came across were mindful of distance.

With the current lockdown rules, are we allowed to drive there?

Omfg....Shock

Astressie · 24/03/2020 11:19

@LindaSmithfanclub, I think the issue is Linda that people are interpreting 'the rules' differently. Not sure they are doing this for selfish reasons either. I don't think driving to walk in isolation will be teaching our children an immoral response to the rules. I assume everyone here will be staying in apart from to shop for essentials, for exercise or work. This is the main point at the moment and a lot for us all including children to get their heads round!!

EarlGreyT · 24/03/2020 11:21

Of course you can drive to go for a walk!

No you can’t. It is non essential travel. You can go for a walk without driving. People who were driving to go for a walk at the weekend are part of the reason this has been stopped now.

Tonyaster · 24/03/2020 11:27

That's because thousands of people all went to the same place.

A friend of mine has just driven to a place, gone for a good walk and come home again. She said she saw about four other people.

All good imo, she wouldn't have affected anyone and we have no police round here anyway so she's unlikely to get fined.

LaurieMarlow · 24/03/2020 11:33

You can go for a walk without driving.

You can. It might not be safer to do so though, if you live in a built up area.

Notthemessiah · 24/03/2020 11:37

Not a problem as long as there aren't lots of people when you get there and potentially safer than going for a walk around your local area if more people are doing that.

misskick · 24/03/2020 11:41

You are allowed to excercise for a hour a day outdoors. Allot of peoples mental health will deteriorate if not. So if your going to a isolated area for a walk and do not come into contact with people that's fine.

emilybrontescorsett · 24/03/2020 11:51

Ffs I'm currently ill and at home
I work in an essential service and have No doubt been infected by a member of the public not adhering to the guidelines.
Stay the fuck at home.
We are all suffering due to selfishness

SociallyDistanced · 24/03/2020 11:52

Tonyaster Quoting what you said:

Wow!Shock Fuck you too.

Am absolutely disgusted at your attitude. No one's going to say no to me! I'm going to so what I want. Smug face and there isn't enough police (insert tinkly laugh). So I'll get away with it too.

Vile!
Your attitude stinks.

LaurieMarlow · 24/03/2020 11:54

I work in an essential service and have No doubt been infected by a member of the public not adhering to the guidelines.

You have not been infected by someone like the OP, driving to a remote spot and exercising where she can practice SD safely.

You are more likely to have been infected by someone going for a walk ‘round the block’ in a built up, urban area.

SisterSist3r · 24/03/2020 11:57

Just walked our lanes instead of driving to woods. Several people out enjoying the sun as expected and keeping to 2 metre rule. But of a job keep 3 x teens herded in and 2 metres away but managed it. Land owners waving and calling to enjoy the sun and walk. Only fly in the ointment was the jogger who didn’t stop to move out for 2 metres and flicked her sweat over my teens who were.

Will be a v short drive and woods tomorrow. No joggers there.

daisypond · 24/03/2020 12:00

You’ve just invented all of that. It’s not true.

Notmyrealname855 · 24/03/2020 12:02

Hello from a national park. A reminder that especially during lambing WE DO NOT WANT YOU coming through our woods, field, farms etc. Just because there’s a footpath doesn’t mean you should use it.

Every time you touch a gate or a stile you are risking OUR LIVES. We will film you. You do not know the health of those you are putting at risk.

We already have six cases of corona here in this valley.

emilybrontescorsett · 24/03/2020 12:03

You have no idea who has infected me.
People are NOT sticking rigidly to the guidelines.
I'm not suggesting g the op has infected anyone.
The reality is we do not know.
However that would be non essential travel.
What if she breaks down in the way, will she expect a break down worker to assist her? That's encouraging contact.
What if she has an accident and needs an ambulence?
All these things can and do have an impact and it's not a positive one.

LolaSmiles · 24/03/2020 12:05

Someone on my social media did the same.

They posted them, their dogs and kids at a normally popular wood, complete with a caption about how much they're enjoying lockdown because it gives them time with the kids, look how quiet it is.

😠

The obvious issue is the place was only almost deserted because EVERYONE ELSE HAS STAYED AT HOME (like we've all been told)!
Everyone else chose not to take their kids out for the morning.
Everyone else is making do with some fresh air near home.
Everyone else is taking their dogs on different walks to usual if they're normally walked in parks and woodland.
Literally the only reason her amazing quiet morning out happened was because everyone else was responsible.

Notmyrealname855 · 24/03/2020 12:07

The matter is... people would rather not be bored. They’d rather believe they’re safe and risk others. They believe themselves to be the experts. They do not care if their car breaks down, if they hurt themselves on a walk, or apparently... if they walk through a valley with corona! They do not care if their actions really upset others including NHS staff and the police.

To repeat... All our national park car parks are out of use. If I catch anyone using them or anyone walking on a path with a gate or stile, I will be sending that video straight to the DM :)

LaurieMarlow · 24/03/2020 12:09

You have no idea who has infected me.

Of course not. Just pointing out the likelihood, which is that it will almost certainly not have been someone safely SD in an isolated, rural location.

People are NOT sticking rigidly to the guidelines

Which is a big problem in built up, urban areas which is where the OP is being encouraged to run instead. There are joggers all over the place here. Trust me, they’re not keeping adequate distance.

What if she has an accident and needs an ambulence?

It’s not insignificant, but it’s a small risk. I would say the risk of cross infection in built up areas is bigger.

mummmy2017 · 24/03/2020 12:10

Stay at home.
See they are sending out texts now.
Can you not read

Can I drive 5 miles to walk in the woods?
carnivalisover · 24/03/2020 12:11

I think this is a problem since ‘truth’ became subjective; interpreting & following rules becomes impossible.

SociallyDistanced · 24/03/2020 12:12

There is a thread in the Corona Virus topic called.
"Plea right here here from the NHS" or similar.
Can anyone link it please?? I don't know how to it but basically it's aimed at all the twats like the ones on this thread thinking it's ok to go for walks in woods etc.

Please read it.

The message is simple.STAY HOME.

The rules are reduce movement of people. If the space outside your own home does not meet your requirements for daily exercise then just STAY HOME. This is fucking real. We are all going to die/overwhelm our NHS unless people stop being so fucking selfish and thinking this is some kind of extended bank holiday.

LindaSmithfanclub · 24/03/2020 12:12

Astressie, the rules are clear, surely? You should only drive for essential purposes and and driving to go for a walk in the woods isn't essential – so by doing it, you're teaching your children that they are allowed to override the rules if they don't like them.

There are practical reasons for these rules. I live in an area where the National Trust owns swathes of land that people come to visit to take in the views. Last weekend the National Trust closed their car park because so many people were gathering there. They locked the gates in the hope that people would drive home, but they didn't. They parked on verges, they parked across driveways, they parked on each side of the road so the local bus couldn't get through. They emptied the local shop of goods that the local pensioners needed. The police had to be called to disperse gatherings.

The police, the people who run the local shop, the people trapped on the bus for an hour until someone moved a car, everyone jostling for space on narrow footpaths, the elderly folk who came out to see who was parked across their drive – they were all put at risk because people 'just wanted to go for an essential walk'. It's not essential.

daisypond · 24/03/2020 12:13

I would say the risk of cross infection in built up areas is bigger.
What you say is irrelevant. You have been told what to do.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 24/03/2020 12:15

I think it is ok for my grandchildren to be driven out of their town to my home in the country, to wave at me through the window, and take a walk on my private land without meeting a soul. We will have no contact whatsoever and they will walk in safety with their parents. They will not stop off anywhere on the journey

LaurieMarlow · 24/03/2020 12:15

You have been told what to do.

People tend to be a lot less respectful of rules they don’t find logical. Which is important at a time like this.

Rosehip10 · 24/03/2020 12:16

@NoMorePoliticsPlease No - not an essential journey.
