Live alone - no time to move to friend's for lockdown - arghhh

How can they bring this in without warning?

For those of us who live alone we are expected to be alone!!
I was supposed to go into lockdown with a friend but logistically can't move their tonight.

I'm technically "vulnerable" but not to coronoavirus. Have autism.

How can they do this with so little notice? I thought we'd get 24 hrs notice at least! Surely I can't be the only person who needs to get somewhere?

Am I missing something? Wasn't watching on TV as iplayer overwhelmed, just radio 4.

Don't worry, You can move there tomorrow OP. As long as you then stay there apart from the exceptions he listed.

It isn't Marshall law.

dementedpixie · 23/03/2020 20:58

Can you move there tomorrow? I'm sure they wont be waiting for you outside your door

Reginabambina · 23/03/2020 20:58

There was notice yesterday when they said they’d seriously consider a lock down. At any rate I doubt you wouldn’t be able to get away with it if you acted quickly.

Weregoingonanadventure · 23/03/2020 21:00

You can move. If you're using your own cars and dont go out about town whilst you're moving then no one is going to know. Its safe to be with someone incase something happens to one of you; just dont be in contact with anyone else.

VirtualHugsAllRound · 23/03/2020 21:01

I could go tomorrow. Need to pack tonight. Need to move houserabbits and run etc (waves to those who inevitably recognise me) so it's not straightforward. Will need to take my food supplies etc too.

Going to take a deep breath and work it out.

You can go tomorrow. But with all due respect we all knew this was coming. Any day now. No room for complaining. People have overwhelmingly flouted advice and this is necessary.

VirtualHugsAllRound · 23/03/2020 21:05

Regina I saw a French announcement and they had 48 hours from announcement of lockdown. So I had assumed similar would happen here. Had started to prepare as assumed it would happen by end of week.

Siameasy · 23/03/2020 21:09

No one will know if you go there.

ifonly4 · 23/03/2020 21:34

This has been happening all over the world, so it's no great surprise. I prepped my Mum last week. I half expected it to be worse, ie exercise only within a certain distance of home or none at all.

If you're vulnerable, then go to your friend tonight. There hasnt been time to brief the police and get them out on the streets for this purpose.

Wolfiefan · 23/03/2020 21:37

You shouldn’t be going. The idea is not to mix households. Stay home.

DippyAvocado · 23/03/2020 21:39

I think you will have plenty of time tomorrow. I would also be surprised if the police had an issue with one vulnerable person travelling to stay with another person. The police don't have a lot of manpower so they will probably focus on dispersing groups of people.

dementedpixie · 23/03/2020 21:39

She's going there to stay for the foreseeable future from what I can see. She is forming a household with her friend

user1353245678533567 · 23/03/2020 21:51

Last time I had an emergency I discovered my area was being covered by a grand total of two response officers for the night shift, so I doubt we will suddenly have enough police for them to patrol every settlement in the country.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 23/03/2020 21:58

Yup- I doubt the police will stop you. Even if they did, if you said you were heading home from grocery shopping in preparation for quarantine what are they going to say?

They also haven’t implemented the emergency legislation to enforce it yet, so the most you’ll get is a bit of a scolding until they do.

Nameisthegame · 23/03/2020 21:59

@VirtualHugsAllRound don’t worry it will be fine there are people all over the country who need to move/get back home try to get all your stuff ready tonight or tomorrow but don’t stress when you’re ready to leave run through what you will say if stopped but remember next couple of days lots of people will be moving to relocate to their lockdown location.

Nameisthegame · 23/03/2020 22:00

I’m in lockdown in Spain even people from abroad could ret

Nameisthegame · 23/03/2020 22:00

Return home

DartmoorChef · 23/03/2020 22:02

You arent going to be shot in the street, or arrested. Just go straight there from your home.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 23/03/2020 22:04

We aren’t going to wake up tomorrow to find the streets lined with police asking where we’re off to

Beesisabuzzin · 23/03/2020 22:05

'from this evening you must stay home' are the words used.

Wolfiefan · 23/03/2020 22:05

Yep. So stay home.

VirtualHugsAllRound · 23/03/2020 22:11

Wolfiefan Easy to say if youre not the one deprived of human contact for at least 3 weeks. FFS

Wolfiefan · 23/03/2020 22:13

Easy to say @VirtualHugsAllRound if you’re not immunocompromised or have severe asthma and this virus is likely to kill you.
The rule is stay home. For good reason. Unless people dying don’t matter to you.

VirtualHugsAllRound · 23/03/2020 22:15

I'd rather it did kill me than have to be isolated. That's isn't a joke, I was battling suicidal thouhgts before all this and keeping them at bay by seeing friends.

OP posts:
VirtualHugsAllRound · 23/03/2020 22:16

I don't have a car and the people who could have helped me move wont be allowed to now. I thought we'd have 24 hours notice. This is a fucking nightmare, im so frightened
