How are they going to enforce the lockdown?

Surely there aren't enough police officers to monitor the entire population. People will still ignore it, won't they?

firstimemamma · 23/03/2020 20:54

I fear people will ignore it, yes Sad

cyclingmad · 23/03/2020 20:56

Shouldn't need to if people just do what is asked. Infact dont enforce it let those people get sick and dont help them. People need to take responsibility and accountability for their own stupid decisions, consequences aswell.

Devlesko · 23/03/2020 20:58

They can ignore it as much as they want, we'll just end up with the Armed services making them behave.
If they still ignore it they will get sick, very sick, or die.

Shouldbedoing · 23/03/2020 20:59

Police and Army.

Crackerofdoom · 23/03/2020 21:01

Surely they can rely on neighbours reporting them.

I have seen a few hundred posters here over the last few days who would love to take some video evidence and send it to the authorities.

Especially since they will all be stuck at home with nothing else to do Wink

PlomBear · 23/03/2020 21:06

The military are not being used yet.

Even if they were, they aren’t going to in tanks shooting people.

Devlesko · 23/03/2020 21:07

Cracker

Good point, we are a nation of "whataboutthemery" started with Cameron and his twitching blinds Grin
That seems so long ago now.
Once some start breaking the rules, they'll be plenty to dob in.

LastTrainEast · 23/03/2020 21:08

Well some people may act like intelligent adults so not quite the whole population.

Devlesko · 23/03/2020 21:08

The "Military" aren't ever going to be used because we don't have them

In the UK we have Armed forces, Police, but no Military

HTH.

Bluntness100 · 23/03/2020 21:10

If people still ignore it, then they will bring rhe army in.

But they just need enough people not to ignore it. And if the police are in all towns etc, they can break anything up.

Ginfilledcats · 23/03/2020 21:10

Actually the military are being rallied. Not sure what for but friends in 2 different regiments have been told to report for duty/pack up ready for deployment etc.
Though they have no actual legal power, they'll be a show of force and support the police.

No one should fear this though if they do as told! Hopefully it will just be the next 3 weeks

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/03/2020 21:12

I hope people are sensible. I'm just not sure how it's going to play out!

Yes we do. The military is the collective term for the armed forces. Army, navy and Raf. The Uk absolutely has military. I’m not sure what you’re thinking of but you’re confused.

Wingedharpy · 23/03/2020 21:12

Only the very very stupid ones will ignore it.
I've never thought I live in a country where people only act as they ought to, if someone is watching.
Don't let me down folks.🙄

StealthMama · 23/03/2020 21:14

The military are primed and ready to support police and medics as needed. Have been since last week.

2010Aussie · 23/03/2020 21:20

It's unenforceable. How are they going to stop people walking their dogs twice a day or going to different food shops several times in one day? They can't.

I feel sorry for city dwellers. I live in the country in a house with a large garden and open fields nearby. If I was in a block of flats in a big city I would go completely doolally very quickly.

MagentaRocks · 23/03/2020 21:45

Going by the amount of threads tonight with people trying to find reasons to ignore this/why they should be able to do stuff a very strict enforcement with military help is very likely.

I get it is inconvenient but if you don’t want thousands to die then just do what you are told.

EggysMom · 23/03/2020 21:47

Whilst it's unenforceable, I think more people will take notice now that the steps are clear and some measures are in place.

So it will have a positive effect than doing nothing more.

Devlesko · 23/03/2020 21:52

Bluntness

When was this changed then? Are we America now? I must have missed the memo.

Maybe it will get to the stage where we have calls for ex soldiers to patrol the streets. Just like the appeal for HC workers.
That would be interesting, although goes against everything I stand for. The stupid and selfish have got us to this point.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 23/03/2020 21:52

Well how the fuck did the military police arrest my grandad back in the day?
And question my brother when there was a serious incident in the barracks?
Hmm

The military will be rallied to support the police.
I presume there will be random patrols.

chubbycow · 23/03/2020 21:54

Anyone out for anything other than the very clear reasons given tonight should forfeit their right to be treated by the NHS if and when they become ill. Job done.

Its unenforceable because its unclear and riddled with holes. Met office has released a statement saying its unenforceable.

Were the last country to do it and we stoll cant do it right

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/03/2020 22:03

Sky News are being quite irresponsible in their reporting of this - highlighting how unenforceable it is, "how will they know if it's your first walk of the day" etc etc.

Obviously it's true that they won't know, but highlighting it just encourages people to do as they please

houseofstark · 23/03/2020 22:06

It’s unenforceable as who’s to know if you’re on your first, second or third exercise trip of the day?

But I hope people respect it as it’s what we need right now.
