Is this considered a non essential journey?

Just watched the PMs broadcast and we're now in lock down for at least weeks. However my DD was due to go down to her father's from monday next week. Can she still go?

OP posts:
peachypetite · 23/03/2020 20:48

No!

Peapod29 · 23/03/2020 20:49

No, I don’t think so. He said you could go out for walks with the family that you live with, work if essential and to get food and meds.

Rosehip10 · 23/03/2020 20:49

No.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/03/2020 20:50

No.

SuckingDieselFella · 23/03/2020 20:50

If you watched it you should know the answer.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 23/03/2020 20:51

No

EverythingChanges321 · 23/03/2020 20:51

No, you stay where you are for 3 weeks.
How can that be any clearer?

SuckingDieselFella · 23/03/2020 20:52

OP why would you think the rules don't apply to you?

Squigean · 23/03/2020 20:52

What I picked up was you can only leave your house for:

  • shopping for basic necessities
  • daily exercise
  • any medical need
  • travelling to and from essential work.

Everything else is non-essential.

Marieo · 23/03/2020 20:53

No.

quicknamechange80 · 23/03/2020 20:53

Absolutely not!

Gooseygoosey12345 · 23/03/2020 20:55

It needs to be clarified but in other countries that were locked down a child travelling to a non-resident parent was classed as essential travel and allowed

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 23/03/2020 20:55

I'm thinking that DD's boyfriend should stay with us now and not travel the 2 hours home to his parents, even by car and even if he plans to stay put there for the rest of the lockdown.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/03/2020 20:57

Is she a child because pretty sure child contact will still happen.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/03/2020 20:59

travelling to and from essential work.
It’s not essential work it’s only travel to work if essential ie you can’t wfh.

Astrid84 · 23/03/2020 21:01

Yeah, I have no one to take care of her whilst I work (I work in a care home) so thought I'd check.

OP posts:
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/03/2020 21:02

My SILs little girl is at her dad's right now and he is saying she cannot come home to mum until after the lockdown.

HowIrresponsible · 23/03/2020 21:03

I dont think child contact will

Didiusfalco · 23/03/2020 21:06

In France this would be classed as essential and they have a fairly stringent lock down, so I’m not sure it’s that clear that you couldn’t.

Astrid84 · 23/03/2020 21:10

She's 11.

"OP why would you think the rules don't apply to you?"

This is supremely unhelpful. There's nothing specific about this, and if you have court ordered contact it's just not that simple.

OBVIOUSLY contact needs to be restricted, but specific legislation detailing this is needed. Dealing with an abusive ex demanding visitation (as 2 friends of mine are currently dealing with) needs specific clarification

I don't have court ordered contact, but I'm scared of bringing this up with my ex

damnthatanxiety · 23/03/2020 22:25

So many rude and ignorant replies! In other countries where strict lockdowns have been implemented, contact with non resident children has been classified as essential. So perhaps let's not get judgemental and start attacking the OP. They have a valid question.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 23/03/2020 23:04

Does anybody actuslly know the legal position around this?

Buttons44 · 24/03/2020 08:06

"If you work in a critical sector outlined in this guidance, or your child has been identified as vulnerable, you can continue to take your children to school. Where parents do not live in the same household, children under 18 can be moved between their parents’ homes"

Helpful guidance for anyone in this situation

rainbowunicorn · 24/03/2020 08:13

To be honest OP the information about this kind of thing will be released today. Mumsnet is the last place I owuld look for answers. These thtreads are full of loonies that think they know everything but the majority don't have clue.
Other countries in lockdown are continuing contact.
