Sensible thread for self-employed people

Could we have one please?

You know, where we don't have to continually confirm that yes we pay the same taxes as employed people, yes we pay slightly less NI but don't have access to SSP or pension contributions, yes the HMRC does know what we earn as we submit a tax return each year.

It's really struck me this weekend that offering no financial support to the 5million SE/gig workers is a public health issue.

People are still going to work because they can't afford not to. Some London tubes were packed today with people who cannot social distance, not because their jobs are vital but because they cannot afford not to work.

I hope that the govt address this sharpish. It's so dangerous.

I wish he’d skip the recap and get on with it.

WwfLeopard · 26/03/2020 17:06

80% of profit, up2 50k for 3 months 🤦🏻‍♀️

WwfLeopard · 26/03/2020 17:06

In June

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 17:07

That’s good isn’t it

ArriettyJones · 26/03/2020 17:07

Yes! 80% capped at £2500 as a monthly grant. Calculated from average of last three years.

ArriettyJones · 26/03/2020 17:08

Only those who earn less than £50kpa though.

WwfLeopard · 26/03/2020 17:08

It’s on profit though, me and many other will still have massive expenses that can’t just be paused

TabbyStar · 26/03/2020 17:09

Don't think it includes company directors but it's not entirely clear.

Bloody annoying about equal contributions though since we've not got equal benefits.

mroctopuss · 26/03/2020 17:10

So how do we cope till June? And if we claim UC does that mean when this is all over we won’t get tax credits? I’m confused

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 26/03/2020 17:10

June? What about next month

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 17:10

I missed the equal contributions part

WwfLeopard · 26/03/2020 17:12

If you leave tax credits, u can never go back

WwfLeopard · 26/03/2020 17:14

Frantically trying to find last 3 years profit figures now 😬

viccat · 26/03/2020 17:14

I don't think I'll get anything, I was working in a part time PAYE role until April 2019 while building my freelance business...

Hingeandbracket · 26/03/2020 17:15

And there is the source of all the cant and propoganda about how much tax we pay. The Chancellor himself trying to claim we don't pay our share. What a cunt. How about Amazon and Vodafone you cunt of a chancellor?

mroctopuss · 26/03/2020 17:16

I thought so WwfLeopard So once this is all back to normal and my DH starts working again would we still get UC to the same amount?

mroctopuss · 26/03/2020 17:16

Not the same obviously as it’s based on income from the previous year.

Teddypops · 26/03/2020 17:16

Trading profit??

Is that net or gross profit?

MaxNormal · 26/03/2020 17:24

So this excludes those with a limited company?
In DH industry the companies he freelances for expect you to be limited, they won't fucking hire you if you're a sole trader!

mement0mori · 26/03/2020 17:24

I just missed all that, was there any savings limit?

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 17:25

Momento I don’t think so

Cap on earnings though at £50k

ArriettyJones · 26/03/2020 17:26

So how do we cope till June? And if we claim UC does that mean when this is all over we won’t get tax credits? I’m confused

Rishi is an evil genius. This is a really clever way for them to force another couple of million people into UC.

WwfLeopard · 26/03/2020 17:29

mroctopuss if your earnings go back to normal I expect you would still be worse off, most people are on UC, but you would stay on UC

Roselilly36 · 26/03/2020 17:30

I heard 80% of PROFITS averaged over the last 3 years tax returns, HMRC will contact self employed people that are eligible, payment won’t be paid till June. Goodness knows what people will live on till then?

Roselilly36 · 26/03/2020 17:31

For 3 mths, but that may be extended.
