Padlock all parks and put signs on them explaining why they are closed (dc are super-spreaders/shedders)

Close all markets, including outdoor

Close all non-essential shops

Instruct supermarkets to only allow a certain amount of people in at one time (some already doing this, Aldi only let 75 in at a time yesterday)

All people to cover their faces when they go to the supermarket - doesn't need to be a proper mask, use a scarf or some other covering.

And get some billboards up to repeat the main information points - something highly visible that everyone will see

Tell people to wear gloves. Again, they don't have to be special surgical gloves - if you've got woolly gloves wash them and wear those, just anything to cover your hands so you are not spreading the virus from you skin or picking it up there.

Drones administering electric shocks to people who do not observe social distancing guidelines?

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 10:55

Having a fun morning UYScuti? That's nice for you Hmm

Increase contactless limit to £50. Less people touching the card machine can only be a good thing.

DHs work has just split the hours (essential workers, but not customer facing, but can't all be done from home) so they aren't all physically in the office at the same time.

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:04

Just wonder if that might lead to more crime Aroundtheworld - people stealing cards because they can get more money?

The terrible thing is a lot of actions they can take can be done immediately and make a big difference but Gov's not thinking clearly

Padlock all parks? The vast majority in my city aren’t even fenced. Markets sell food, which people need to buy. A standard scarf will do nothing to prevent the spread of microscopic droplets.

It’s not the government which isn’t thinking clearly!

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:18

Parks can be fenced - fencing is put up for events

Markets aren't essential places for food - they are great to have but not necessary during this crisis

A scarf wrapped round will provide more of a barrier than what people are currently using - i.e. nothing at all!

Sneering - not essential but crack on if it makes you happy Hmm

Markets aren't essential for food
They're very handy though, and much safer than indoor shops if the 2m distance rule is observed.

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:25

They are handy but the 2m rule is practically impossible and they are tending to draw crowds because they sell a variety of stuff and people don't know what to do with themselves.

If the alternative is total lockdown we can accept market closures.

If you are following advice re social distancing a mask is of no benefit. Unless you understand basics of infection control a mask may actually cause higher risk. In the healthcare industry they are changed between each patient hence why they are on short supply.

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:32

If you are following advice re social distancing a mask is of no benefit

Why is that?

OP posts:
LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:41

The point is 'social distancing' is very difficult - 2m is a lot of space - and at the moment the majority of pp probably still aren't managing it so it is better to cover your face if you are going eg to the shops or standing in a queue at the pharmacy.

These are simple practical actions that could be put out to people as an alternative to the extreme and probably unenforceable measure of lockdown

We absolutely should be put in lockdown because people are stupid!

They refuse to follow simple instructions which are for the good of all.

Lockdown and anyone who doesn't stick to it should be shot.

Lockdown with snipers!

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:54

Most London parks are now closed I think

feelingverylazytoday · 23/03/2020 11:59

littlerootie if it's difficult at a market stall it will be equally difficult in a supermarket.
I think outdoor markets could be useful to ease the pressure on indoor shops, as long as they're properly stewarded.
Good point about wearing gloves though.

Lordfrontpaw · 23/03/2020 11:59

Stop tourists arriving! We live next to a few large hotels and they are still coming - that larks were mobbed yesterday (partly because the shops and museums were closed). This means the parks will close so that locals can’t even go out for a run to try to keep active/stop them going cabin crazy.

Lifesavesocialdistance · 23/03/2020 11:59

Business that is open needs to take charge, make people social distance, staff don't lean in right into customers faces ect.

I went to get petrol, I queued outside until previous customer out, so it was only me in there, man behind me waited outside, so civilised. I had exact money and quickly popped it on the counter.

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 12:01

They should have learnt the lessons of Italy ;
I know it's impossible to stop , but now the virus has spread to more rural areas which may have less facilities.
Crazy behaviour but nothing surprises me anymore

Puffalicious · 23/03/2020 12:05

Yup, stop tourists arriving- it's ridiculous.

Crack down on people abusing the ' keyworker' rules and sending kids to school who don't need to go.

Close down hairdressers and beauty parlours- all still.open in my area yesterday.

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 12:06

Incredible isn't it. They seem happy to threaten people with lockdown but still allowing flights in, absolutely crazy

Yesterday I was walking behind a Chinese couple (well to my limited experienced ear they were speaking Chinese) pulling their suitcases along, map in hand, going into a hotel a couple of doors up. I feel really sorry for the staff. There were (last week anyway) still groups of Italian youth/students on trips and the temporary bus park up the road had 4 or 5 large yellow tour buses (foreign plates - I didn’t go to have a closer look) parked your with groups of people milling around.

I don’t know anyone who had a trip planned over the past few weeks who have gone.

qweryuiop · 23/03/2020 12:22

Gloves makes no sense. Your hands are much easier to wash than woolly gloves. Just don't touch things and wash you hands as soon as you're back in the house, and regularly throughout the day.

Rosehip10 · 23/03/2020 12:27

Vague advice and complicated rules is clearly not working. We need the simplicity of a Spanish style lock down.
