We have received this snap on our local estates fb page (from the moderator) saying it's from a resident in our estate with . Everything inside me screams hoax ((with a niggle it might be real).

Anyone seen similar?

I haven't seen the post, but the symptoms mentioned have been widely shared as some of the less common but possible symptoms of the virus.

The 'stay at home' advice is sound whether there's a confirmed case 'on your doorstep' or not.

CodenameVillanelle · 23/03/2020 07:11

What is the hoax?
The only symptom they mention that is not a common one is diarrhoea but the rest are. What is the trick? A hoax is something that tricks people into doing something under false pretences. I don't see anything like that here.

GreyishDays · 23/03/2020 07:11

I’ve seen loss of taste and smell as a thing that drs are noticing.

LittlePickleHead · 23/03/2020 07:19

Well this makes me wonder.

Two weeks ago I had what I thought was a weird bug - a bout of diarrhoea then suddenly feeling very nauseous. My mum was staying and I had cooked dinner, but it didn't taste of anything (I thought it was my cooking!) and I couldn't really eat anything as felt so sick. Spent evening shivering on the sofa. Totally not any of the symptoms we had been told so didn't cross my mind.

A few days later my mum has same symptoms.

A week later my husband has developed more widely known symptoms and we e been self isolating, he's been quite poorly and completely wiped out. He's also completely lost his sense of smell.

Obviously no idea if I have had it or not (Until we can get an antibody rest) but just reinforces the idea that we all need to isolate just in case. I dread to think how many people we have come into contact with between us.

covidisolation · 23/03/2020 07:23

I have seen posts from people overseas claiming to have had diarrhoea as a symptom but alternatively it could be a side effect from medication taken such as ibrufen. Either way with all the symptoms mentioned it would be only kind and fair to isolate at the moment as no one needs to catch anything that weakens their immunity or gives them shivers or diahorrea. It is certain from the experiences of people who have tested positive that they react to covid in very different ways and personally I think it is likely that the above is totally true.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 23/03/2020 07:26

I saw that posted last night. It was a friend’s neighbour who posted it and friend shared it.
Feel free to PM me to share the location if you want.

HRH2020 · 23/03/2020 07:28

I know of at least a dozen people with similar symptoms (some with chest pain too) they are popping up every day, it's unlike any kind of cold or even noro in the way it is spreading so fast. In my own house we have all had slightly different symptoms. I expect the post is not fake news sadly.

WeAllHaveWings · 23/03/2020 07:30

@OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe I am in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Agree the stay at home advice is sound, but it should not be done by fake news and manipulation.

I agree it shouldn't need to be done by fake news and manipulation because we should be doing it anyway.

WhereverIMayRoam · 23/03/2020 07:33

I don’t see why it would be fake news, those are widely reported symptoms (even if there’s some less well known symptoms too). It’s a not particularly dramatic post from someone confirming a family member has it and reminding people to be careful. We know there are people in hospital with Coronavirus, why would you doubt it?

LittlePickleHead · 23/03/2020 07:36

I don't think it even matters where this post is - the virus is everywhere guys! The best advice is if you feel slightly ill in any way at all, stay the fuck at home

madroid · 23/03/2020 07:39

Why does it matter OP?

Follow the rules!

CodenameVillanelle · 23/03/2020 07:40

What's the fake news though?
Seriously, where?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/03/2020 07:43

We had one of those. From the woman who tries to arrnage our lives in all sorts of ways. We ignored it as it is highly likely she thinks she is doing a good thing and enforcing the rules she has in her head.

Note, I didn't say I am ignoring the government, just one bossy middle aged woman who, despite being the same age as me, has always treated me like a child. I am acting as though it is in my immediate neighbourhood, I don't feel the need to give her desire to be in control more oxygen!

So ignore it, don't respond, carry on safely!

WeAllHaveWings · 23/03/2020 07:43

@madroid I am following the rules to the letter, I have been since the beginning Hmm

I would like to know if there is a very local case (very small housing estate) or if it is just another facebook post being used.

Why does it matter? Because we should be able to trust each other at this time more than ever.

GalactiCat · 23/03/2020 07:48

I am in Ayrshire too and have heard of a confirmed case from a carer friend with those symptoms. I wonder if it's the same area.

frumpety · 23/03/2020 07:50

It sounds perfectly legitimate with regards to symptoms. Can't possibly tell you if the person who wrote it lives near you or not, is that what you mean by fake news ?

daisypond · 23/03/2020 07:53

Why would you think it’s fake news or a hoax? Those are reported symptoms.

WeAllHaveWings · 23/03/2020 07:55

@CuriousaboutSamphire would you mind PMing me the facebook page you saw it on?

The screenshot was posted on our local facebook page with extra scaremongering comments which I dont think are appropriate. I will PM the poster directly and ask him to remove, not get into a public slagging match.

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/03/2020 07:56

If I can find it again, I will do so.

It was shorter than yours, included loss of sense of taste, as though that new, odd symptom would make it more convincing! Or I am a jaundiced old mare and the damn woman is seriously ill!

Isadora2007 · 23/03/2020 07:57

Sorry I didn’t mean to post them on two separate posts- diarrhoea and loss of smell and taste are now being recognised as symptoms. So I don’t think it’s fake.
Stay at home anyway.

WeAllHaveWings · 23/03/2020 07:58

To clarify. I dont believe the symptoms etc posted at fake.

I am asking if it is facebook post/picture doing the rounds in the UK, and not an actual text from a resident local to us and being used to manipulate us.

OP posts:
Falacy · 23/03/2020 08:02

Even if it is fake, it's bloody true.

It's like if I posted "I went outside today and witnessed the sky being blue" when in actual fact I'd stayed inside.

Technically it's a lie, I didn't go outside, but that's not really the important bit, is it?

Would you report that as being "fake news"?

I don't understand what you're getting annoyed about.

If it's the case that blurred name is young and appears to be healthy, there are posts on here and doctors in Italy saying exactly the same thing. It might be killing older people, but the hospitals are full of adults of all ages in critical condition.
