Just my suggestion.

In times of crisis you need very very simple, easy to follow, clearly outlined rules with as little detail as possible. Random rules which would need to be defined don't work.

DonkeyKong2019 · 22/03/2020 21:16

We have zero outside space and live in a TINY flat. We also live by a beach and some lovely parks which have all been rammed so we are stuck in. With two SEN children under 6.

Straycatstrut · 22/03/2020 21:22

Dog walkers especially with no garden too. Where do they go to the toilet?

But people won't care. It's me me me. Healthy people out jogging etc. It's NOT essential.... blah blah blah "my mental health" - yeah mine too. I've been on and off suicidal for two years. I'm stuck inside with two hyper boys and likely the most active dog breed you can get. I feel suffocated, beyond my limits and sick. But I'm staying in.

Sceptre86 · 22/03/2020 21:25

Nice idea but in reality it would never work. We have seen in the last two weeks with panic buying and people still heading to seaside resorts just because the weather is nice that there are a lot of irresponsible idiots out there.

Lanurk · 22/03/2020 21:26

We have a garden but we’re aren’t using it because next door are using theirs a lot. Think you need to get a grip of yourself-it won’t be long til they ban everyone going out.

TotesGodsWill · 22/03/2020 21:30

In theory YANBU

It’s just that in practice it will never work. If the last week or two have proved anything, it’s that people are selfish arseholes

Makinganewthinghappen · 22/03/2020 21:34

We just moved to a flat - it fit our needs perfectly as a family with 6 kids. Nice and big, enough bedrooms, in the centre of town which is perfect as dh and I can’t drive for medical reasons.
No matter we thought it’s near the train and parks etc! We started off really enjoying ourselves - now I am stuck inside with the kids gazing out of the window.
Grin

It is a little challenging but dh is in a high risk category so my kids are just going to have to play inside.

raspberryk · 22/03/2020 21:35

@Straycatstrut perhaps you should get out then and walk the energy out of the kids and the dog whilst observing social distancing like we did this afternoon.

Those with no gardens and dog owners, then if you have children I guess would be my idea of the order of priority. Not taking our dog out isn't an option, she needs 2 x 1 hour off lead and that's non negotiable.

user1493413286 · 22/03/2020 21:36

I think it’s about people doing the right thing; we have a garden so I’ve not gone out of it this weekend as I’d rather be one less family in open space when we have access to it in our garden

PersonaNonGarter · 22/03/2020 21:45

Sorry - it is hard but this is about saving lives.

Witchend · 22/03/2020 21:53

Is this a Boris plan to be able to say he's reduced the people living in flats? Kill more of them off so there's fewer people living there?

Do not go out. Not going to a green space won't kill you. Getting covid-19 might.

And in real terms, how on earth are you going to spare anyone to do this? At my place of work some of the people have been working 15+ hours a day to set up emergency relief. That's emergency I need my inulin and I can't get to the pharmacy, or I have absolutely no food left in the house not oh dear I'm a bit low on Wensleydale cheese.
Cards would require someone to produce them and many people to post them, and then someone to check on entry to the space. And how long before people are lending them to friends/relatives and selling on ebay? Probably 2 minutes after the first people get theirs.

And anyway, by the time you'd set it up then we'll all be on lockdown and not allowed out.
If people don't use common sense tomorrow and stop going out except for necessities, that's what is going to happen.

SuperMeerkat · 22/03/2020 21:55

How would you police that?

SudokuQueen · 22/03/2020 21:57

Stupid idea. No. You can't possibly police this, we don't have enough police as it is, you want them to do more work?

How about people just stop being fucking stupid, huh? It's a small amount of time to be stuck indoors. It's not a lifetime.

Rosebel · 22/03/2020 22:02

They shouldn't be in the park anyway, why is,that so hard to understand. A short walk away from others is fine but you can't let your children play outside. Yet see loads of people in the parks I drive by for work (no choice as it's a key role) and just feel like screaming are you fucking stupid?
It's going to end in total lockdown because people can't follow a,simple set of instructions. Not even the rising death rate puts people off. Think we're too entitled as a nation. For some reason everyone thinks the rules don't apply to them.

Overtime2019 · 22/03/2020 22:03

I live in a flat so no garden at all but me and my kids stay in only time we go out is for food or for walking the dogs that's it

Strangerthanstrange · 22/03/2020 22:11

@raspberryk 2 x 1 hour non negotiable walk for a dog? You might find you have no choice but to do short 20 minute walk.

JanewaysBun · 22/03/2020 22:11

I live in a teeny flat. My kids will survive not being out doors for a while even if it drives us all round the bend! Yabu

Malvinaa81 · 22/03/2020 22:16

No, I'm afraid not.

Children should stay indoors.

Santaclauswhosthat · 22/03/2020 22:18

People are going to develop health problems if they don't have access to outside air and sunlight for months on end so it is a public health concern. But given that this government aren't even testing us I wouldn't think they'll do anything useful about it.

As for dog owners with no gardens, 1) you shouldn't have a dog in that situation and 2) people take priority over pets.

edwinbear · 22/03/2020 22:22

I’ll just park (pun intended) this right here.

Families minus a garden/balcony should have priority outside access.
Wifeofbikerviking · 22/03/2020 22:25

I disagree. All should go out at some point in the day, within whatever distance is set as our guideline if we go into lockdown. Every human benefits from going outside of the boundary of their home.
Old, young, flat house or caravan etc. Everyone.

raspberryk · 22/03/2020 22:27

@Strangerthanstrange thats not unusual for an active dog, we have a working breed if it makes any difference and I've never had a dog that doesn't get decent walks. 20 minutes isn't enough for any dog, with the exception of the odd few breeds that can't be walked far.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 22/03/2020 22:27

People are going to develop health problems if they don't have access to outside air and sunlight for months on end so it is a public health concern.

in the current context, there has to be a priority and the lack of sunlight is not one.

Even a flat has windows, it's not being stuck in a cave either.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 22/03/2020 22:28

All should go out at some point in the day, within whatever distance is set as our guideline if we go into lockdown

the clue is in the term "lockdown" 🤦‍♀️

Justanotherlurker · 22/03/2020 22:31

One thing I hope comes out of this is that we get away from this divisive, 'I am part of a nuanced special group' narrative

People need to step away from looking for victim status
