No source?

LaurieFairyCake · 22/03/2020 18:39

Daily Mail main headline

OP posts:
turkeyontheplate · 22/03/2020 18:40

Details?

DBML · 22/03/2020 18:40

They just said it on Sky News. Had underlying health conditions, but didn’t say what they were.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 22/03/2020 18:40

Maybve THIS will make these stupid kids stay at home, rather than socialising.

thaegumathteth · 22/03/2020 18:40

I saw that. They did have some health conditions apparently but it doesn't make it any less sad.

iVampire · 22/03/2020 18:40

It’s on the BBC website, so I think it’s reliable info

Pulpfiction1 · 22/03/2020 18:43

Yes it's very sad but we are already aware that people with existing health problems are at risk so it's not a shock and doesn't change anything.

PlanDeRaccordement · 22/03/2020 18:46

Ah found it on BBC.
Yes very sad but not entirely unexpected. The death rates we got from China included a 10-19yr old category that had deaths. It’s very sobering to those students who are thinking they are invincible.

Like the news article I saw about how thousands of US students are doing Spring Break in Florida. They are having street and beach parties. Unbelievable.

Isadora2007 · 22/03/2020 18:50

Like the 21 year old who died who had leukaemia?
It’s awful- of course it is. But I know someone who died during her chemo after she got coldsores which became infected.
Why are people so determined to share things for the shock factor? That will likely have the opposite effect.

PicsInRed · 22/03/2020 18:53

Most adults have some sort of underlying medical condition.

It's a sop to keep people calm "won't get me".

LaurieFairyCake · 22/03/2020 19:06

Yes, I've got arthritis in my knees

I wouldn't like that to be described as an underlying condition if I died at 50 ..

OP posts:
Thisismytimetoshine · 22/03/2020 19:09

Arthritis has never proved fatal, op. Of course it wouldn’t be considered an underlying condition in relation to a respiratory illness 🤦‍♀️

FuckOffCorona · 22/03/2020 19:09

I don’t think it was arthritis that was the problem Hmm but some people can’t resist prying for morbid details

Isla727 · 22/03/2020 19:09

Yeah 'underlying conditions' seems to just be hospitals'/the press' way of keeping people from panicking!

A lot of people have underlying conditions; our/their lives are just as valuable.

Pulpfiction1 · 22/03/2020 19:10

Most adults have some sort of underlying medical condition.

Do they? Because in the 18-40 range people statistically don't often have underling health conditions.

UnrulySalvia · 22/03/2020 19:12

Underlying conditions or not, it's very sobering Sad. Poor kid.

Isla727 · 22/03/2020 19:12

@Fuckoffcorona- that's not true because lots of people with Rheumatoid Arthritis are on Immunosuppressants to at definite increased risk and R.A. is an autoimmune condition.

Isla727 · 22/03/2020 19:14

@Thisismytimetoshine People who are on Immunosuppressants for the autoimmune disease Rheumatoid Arthritis are at risk.

MimiLaRue · 22/03/2020 19:14

Most adults have some sort of underlying medical condition

Thats not really true. I dont - and I go for regular full blood screens/diagnostic tests (BUPA offers them as part of their package)

Office365 · 22/03/2020 19:16

*They had serious existing health problems!
*
Fucking knew someone would start a thread with a scaremongering headline and miss out the key details!

TakeANote · 22/03/2020 19:16

Is there an official list of underlying conditions? Because I’m pretty sure everyone is either overweight or has eczema and I would bet anything these are included

Honeysucklecastle · 22/03/2020 19:16

The poor 18 year most likely had underlying conditions but as a PA to a disabled lady who goes to a day centre full of people with serious underlying conditions I wouldn’t want to see any of them affected by this awful virus. I’m so scared for them all as a normal chest infection often puts them in hospital during winter.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 22/03/2020 19:17

Underlying conditions could mean anything, it doesn't mean "they were at deaths door anyway". It could mean something common like asthma, normally well controlled.

This is very sad.

MummyPop00 · 22/03/2020 19:17

Have there been any deaths thus far that haven’t had an ‘underlying health problem’ ?
