People moaning about groups of dc hanging out but schools open for childcare?

Every other post I read is a rant about people having seen groups of dc hanging out in our village. Irresponsible parenting etc. If this is such a concern (and I agree it is) I just don’t understand how the schools opening to look after a load of dc is not hypocritical and dangerous. Genuinely confused 🤷‍♀️

How do you propose key workers get to work with kids that need supervision at home? It’s the difference between choice and necessity, surely it isn’t that hard to wrap your head around?

FourEyesGood · 22/03/2020 18:15

Schools aren’t opening to “look after a load of” children. They’re opening to facilitate key workers continuing to work: so that doctors and nurses can counties to provide care; so that supermarket deliveries can still happen; so that new benefit / government support payments can be processed.

How can you not understand that?

Marieo · 22/03/2020 18:17

Schools are opening as it is a necessity. Out of choice, if it wouldn't affect staffing levels for key jobs or there was not the risk that vulnerable children would be neglected or come to more harm than the risk at school, then they would close. Unfortunately it relies on parents being responsible and only sending them when absolutely required, even if eligible.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 22/03/2020 18:17

Schools are open to the extent that it prevents a key worker who is necessary to the fight against CV having to leave their job to care for young children where they would otherwise be left alone.

It is seen as the lesser of 2 evils. Teenagers hanging round the village is shit parenting.

LittleCabbage · 22/03/2020 18:18

It's a balance between preventing people mixing unnecessarily (spreading the virus) as far as possible...... but making sure health workers can get to work to care for the many people who will get critically ill.

How is that difficult to understand? How does groups of kids "hanging out" help health workers get to work? It doesn't.

mostwonderfultime · 22/03/2020 18:20

I do understand that just don’t get the moaning about kids hanging out when kids will be in big groups tomorrow at schools. Not being goady and don’t want nastiness- there seems plenty of criticism around at the moment.

Do you not know why the schools are opening OP?

WomanIsTaken · 22/03/2020 18:20

With the lower number of pupils in schools, we will be able to practice social distancing to some extent. We will have 4 members of staff in each day, split over 4 rooms, with children spaced out at least 2 m apart, and keeping stringent hygiene measures in place. Needs must.
Kids playing in the street, not necessary.

picklemewalnuts · 22/03/2020 18:20

The idea is that kids don't mix and spread the virus.

Those that do, DC of health workers, don't mix with All the other D.C.

No one should be mixing unless there is no other choice.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/03/2020 18:20

Very simply put

Those that have to work and have no other option but to send their child/children to school are the children that shall be attending school

Children don’t need to have play dates or hang out together their parent/s should be making sure they are not as it is not a necessity

The fewer people we all mix with the less the coronavirus spreads

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 22/03/2020 18:21

Do you understand the difference between necessary and unnecessary contact?

Marieo · 22/03/2020 18:21

Because by people who can (ie those out playing) staying in, it reduces the risk for those who need to go out. There is also a tiny bit more control in schools, admittedly not enough, but a bit.

LtJudyHopps · 22/03/2020 18:22

It doesn’t even compare and I don’t understand how you can be confused. We are meant to be stopping all non-essential travel, contact, everything!
So keyworkers children going to school = necessary.
Teenagers hanging out in town = not necessary.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/03/2020 18:22

There will be social distancing in the schools where possible.

TruffleShuffles · 22/03/2020 18:23

I don’t mean to offend OP but this is why the U.K. need to go into full lockdown. If people cannot understand the difference between the two scenarios then the U.K. has no chance.

Madre1972 · 22/03/2020 18:23

Maybe watch the news and you’ll understand. I do not understand how anyone cannot see the difference. Children will be in smaller groups at school so that key workers can continue to work when the country NEEDS them. Nobody NEEDS groups of kids hanging around the streets, spreading a virus that kills. It’s pretty easy to comprehend!

Ohtherewearethen · 22/03/2020 18:24

Because teenagers wandering about the village doesn't help to facilitate extremely valuable and vital key workers to continue to work to keep this country running. Providing safe places for children of key workers to be is a way, maybe not perfect, to keep those key workers able to help keep us alive. Slightly different from allowing bored teenagers to hang out in car parks.
I've never seen so many teenagers out and about here. Makes you wonder really. Normally they can't be persuaded to leave the screens and go outside.

RhymingRabbit3 · 22/03/2020 18:25

Because teenagers hanging out is unnecessary and avoidable.

Whereas key workers being able to work without their kids being abandoned at home is necessary and (in most cases) unavoidable.

Newyearnewarse · 22/03/2020 18:26

Schools are open but the children will have to keep the 2 metre distance in my school. It won't be a fun time , they will be sitting with a computer screen and getting on with the remote work that has been set.

Crunchymum · 22/03/2020 18:27

Its seems almost every CV thread is an example of why we need lockdown. Now.

People just aren't fucking getting it.

Michellebops · 22/03/2020 18:28

countrygirl99 · 22/03/2020 18:29

To put it bluntly OP, attitudes like ours are why there will be avoidable deaths. Lots of them.

Michellebops · 22/03/2020 18:29

🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

countrygirl99 · 22/03/2020 18:29

Yours

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 22/03/2020 18:29

Agree crunchy. I’m actually seriously appalled by the level of intelligence in the U.K. right now.
