Frontline NHS and terrified

Anyone else? Just read about a 36 year old nurse in ITU with it, she had no other health conditions. Also a 39 social worker with no health conditions in the US died with it.
We don’t have the appropriate equipment. I’m expected to go into homes with a normal (not-filter) mask and apron and gloves only. In my own clothes that I will then get back into my car wearing and wear home.
And whilst I have these fears that I may die and leave my 2 young children without a Mum people are being so fucking irresponsible. My nurse neighbour is having friends over all the time, my other neighbour is off out all the time. When I drive to work (the only time I’m out the house) there’s so many people carrying on as normal. If this is you ... you could kill people like me who are being responsible but our job makes it impossible to protect ourselves.

My sisters are both feeling this way - they're frontline NHS working without the proper PPE.

One is just desperate for the country to go into lockdown.

It's not just you, not that that helps :-(

The government needs to get you all PPE as a huge priority.

Last week it was visit suspected cases with no PPE at all - that was our guidance. It’s ridiculous.

I do think a full lockdown will be brought about this coming week. Things won't improve, and will likely just get worse.
They should have done this last week!

I'm so sorry you're having to face this OP. I can't imagine how scary it must be. I really hope you get better equipment soon and that people in this country stop making a fucking mockery of the huge risks frontline workers are taking for us.

I’ve been out today taking essentials to my sister and BIL who are NHS and self isolating as my sister is ill.

Everywhere is like a bloody bank holiday!!! Go home you stupid selfish people.

We absolutely need locking down because people are entitled selfish and in denial. It’s getting to the point now where we need to be forced

I'm feeling this way too.
I'm a nurse, I've been off a week and a half with illness myself (not known corona, but symptoms).

Back to work 2mo, and I'm terrified. Terrified of being asked to look after CV patients, catching it... Bringing it home to my DH and DS.
DH on immunosuppressants, so he's vulnerable, and DS only 18 months.

Feel so guilty feeling this way too, I should want to help, but I don't!

Daffie I’m the same. I should want to help and feel guilty for not wanting to. Swine flu I was one of the first volunteering to move to ICU to help. This time, I’m so scared.

@Frigginella I understand your concerns. I'm also a nurse, but in an outpatients setting with generally healthy patients, so not in the front line like you, but my partner is. Have you seen the RCN guidance on employers responsibilities to protect you under COSHH regulations? Maybe the RCN could give you some guidance and support, that's why we've been paying them all these years after all.

I am so angry for you all that have no choice but to work without the correct PPE it's a damn disgrace.
I can't do anything to help you (except what I am by staying inside) but I want you to know that I appreciate you all.
Thank you to each and every one of you Flowers

I'm in an outpatient setting, gastro.
I'm not sure they can stop our procedures as we often spot cancers with the symptoms patients give, oespohageal and bowel.
We will see what happens tomorrow.
Fingers crossed I don't get asked to move! 🙈

We have heard of a doctors in ITU on ventilator, don’t know if it’s true. I don’t understand why there is no restrictions on people movement!

In the NHS too in a specialty that involves close up patient contact. I am terrified. No PPE. In fact the guidance has downgraded the level of protection required, likely due to shortage rather than science. Our department is going to say no to anything that can wait until we get PPE, but I don't know if we will eventually get bullied into doing it. This will only get worse. I could cry thinking about the months to come. There are several consultants intubated on ITU (not in my trust), and people are still not practising social isolation like it doesn't affect them. We will be expected to sacrifice ourselves and our loved ones to save these idiots.

I’m going around the community as normal with no PPE. Have an antenatal clinic tomorrow. I can’t believe how many people are going out as normal. I dropped some flowers at my mums door earlier but didn’t see her. I’m only going to work or to buy food. I’m sure I’ll get Ill but hope it’s mild.

Not to mention the vulnerable patients, I come into contact with chemo patients from time to time, my heart breaks for them and I dread to think what I could be passing onto them.

Think we're all feeling the same. I'm not front facing usually, but am helping deliver ppe, setting up new front line services. 2 of my staff and my line manager are of with symptoms, but recovering thankfully.

Thank you for all that you are doing! 🌷 I live on an A road and it seems busier than usual and I'm guessing they're not all key workers! I hope Boris makes an announcement in the next few days to lock down otherwise what is the point! I think he will. We haven't come this far to only come this far!

We’re on lockdown here as involved in response and symptomatic. Our NDN (HDU) has had a full Mother’s Day shindig next door. Makes my blood boil about stupidity.

I've seen a lot of very upset and scared nhs staff in the last week. I feel the same.

We'll do our best for our patients though. Let's hope that we and our families stay safe.

Everyone else, please stay at home unless you have reason to be out (that doesn't mean a trip to the seaside just because the weather is nice though).

So sorry you are facing this. I have offered to return to the Nursing register during this crisis but wont be unless I have decent PPE.

I'm being redeployed back to front line and am really worried about it, I'm a single parent and all my dd has so if anything happened to me 😪

We're not being given any PPE other than a couple of paper masks which are about as good as a chocolate teapot...

Why isn't there proper equipment? Medical staff seem to be more vulnerable as they are faced with higher doses of the virus.

I've had a crash course in ITU skills and our team is starting to look after intubated patients with CV19 from tomorrow.
We're lucky - when patients are intubated there's less risk of infecting others, but I'm scared. They divided our area into red, amber and green zones with biohazard signs everywhere in preparation for tomorrow and it really was sobering when I left on Friday.

If I was working on a ward with suspected/confirmed cases I don't think I could handle it - my hats off to you all. I'm a single mum with 2DC - if we have to go into isolation I don't have any family in this country to drop shopping etc in. I can't even think about what might happen to the kids if I have it badly.

We're going to work for you. Please stay in for us.

I work front line Ambulance, and I just pray that the country does go in to lockdown very soon it'll be the happiest news we will all receive at the moment as NHS staff, our patients are rapidly increasing with symptoms as well as patients with other illnesses and injures, the service is going crazy, people who really need us are waiting hours for an ambulance and staff numbers are dropping like flies as well as our mental health Sad

People are not listening or doing as they should, the amount of times this week I have been to house party's where there's been a house full of 20+ people because pubs/ clubs are shut and people have become unwell 🤷🏻‍♀️ Madness!
