I really don't want to take her to the hospital right now. We're in self isolation with symptoms.

A friend offered to go chemist and get stristrips.

I've cleaned with savlon antiseptic cream.

What would you do?

Oh, please don’t treat that at home Shock

AccidentsAhoy · 22/03/2020 13:17

She's crying because she doesn't wnat to go hospital.

She has a smaller scar on her face from a fall at school. She was in hospital 24 hours and needed an op. She was nil by mouth all day and it kept getting cancelled

I just told her we need to go because she will get a scar.

She said she likes her scars. 😂

Going to ring 111

Would definitely agree that certainly needs to see a doctor, she’ll end up with a nasty scar if not. They will probably glue it, I know they prefer not to use stiches on faces if they can avoid it. Can you get a phone number for your local a&e to get advice if you are self isolating with symptoms?

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 22/03/2020 13:18

If you are self isolating with symptoms personally I'd ring 111.

Please don't just turn up somewhere. Ring ahead. I wouldn't go to minor injuries because I don't know if they've got the appropriate protection.

How did she do it? If you were confident you could close it with steristrips if you could get a good closure. However it might scar and it really warrants stitches.

I deal with this sort of thing in hospital. Normally I would want to stitch that, although there have been occasions when we have closed something similar with steristrips (normally in very young children to avoid a GA). In these cases if we get a good hold and closure with steristrips the end result is normally okay actually

I think you need to ring 111 and explain the situation

Lougle · 22/03/2020 13:20

That will need a professional to look at because it's on a mobile part of her face (opening and shutting her jaw will move the edges apart/closer).

AccidentsAhoy · 22/03/2020 13:21

I meant DF. DFriend has the pics to show pharmacist

You need to go and get that seen to. Most definitely don't try and treat it at home. Poor girl.

Bagelsandbrie · 22/03/2020 13:22

Please get it seen to. A and E right now is very quiet because most people are staying away, they have very good measures to try to contain anyone with coronavirus symptoms. If you leave that and it needs stitches it could end up infected which would need even more intervention.

justforthisnow · 22/03/2020 13:22

Definitely hospital and I would insist on a Plastics consult, based on her age and location of injury.

VenetoResident · 22/03/2020 13:24

DH got a similar cut on his foot earlier in the week. It really needed stitches too. We've been smearing with antibiotic cream (can buy that here easily in shops), but it's healing open rather than knitting together. On a face I'd want medical advice.

Rowan8 · 22/03/2020 13:30

Bless her, please take her to get it stitched. 💐💐

@AccidentsAhoy

PPE is Personal Protective Equipment

Best of luck to your daughter. What a time your family's having, with self-isolation and symptoms in the mix too. Flowers

justchecking1 · 22/03/2020 13:32

I'm a medic. I'd potentially have a go with steristrips on that, and see if I could get good closure. It's not over a joint so shouldn't reopen, if she's careful.

Is she old enough to be careful?

I'd be prepared to stitch if I couldn't get good closure though

Hippofrog · 22/03/2020 13:32

I know a child that did the same and she needed a plastic surgeon and an op the next day. She needs a doctor

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 22/03/2020 13:33

Damn. Forgot to refresh screen. Bit behind with conversation.

Knowhowufeel2 · 22/03/2020 13:35

It will scar either way, but if it was me I'd use steri strips as I've done that several times before and always ended up with a neat scar.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/03/2020 13:35

A&E. that needs to be closed properly to reduce scarring. Our A&E is really quiet at the moment.

danni0509 · 22/03/2020 13:36

Ds did the same to his chin and nearly 5 years later has a noticeable scar. His was glued,

Deffo a&e.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/03/2020 13:36

Don't bother with a pharmacist. They will just tell you it needs stitches.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/03/2020 13:37

That's way too deep to just use steri strips, it needs to be looked at properly .

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 13:39

I think everyone that's suggested going to hospital has missed the part where you are in isolation due to symptoms.

Call 111 and get advice, I'd do that before trying to treat at home.

ikeakia · 22/03/2020 13:41

I was at hospital yesterday with my DS with symptoms, it was fine. Definitely go to hospital.

sunshinemachine · 22/03/2020 13:43

deffo go get that checked

MitziK · 22/03/2020 13:51

Hospital/minor injuries. That's a nasty one.

gingercat02 · 22/03/2020 13:51

That needs stitched by a plastic surgeon. A&E immediately
