Should I be in my garden?

Currently WFH with DP and 2 DCs avoiding going out unless it's for food.

We live quite rurally whilst we have neighbours to each side (terraced) we have a 2m + fence on one side of garden and a 2m hedge on the other. No one really out as neighbours are elderly.
We have no immediate neighbours behind garden for 50 meters or more.

Is it safe to be out in our own garden? Are DCs safe out there ?

We thought about catching up with a few jobs in the run up to summer but unsure as to what the guidelines are.

Can anyone advise?

Yes. Absolutely. Work away.

midgebabe · 21/03/2020 16:43

Gardens are great if you are lucky enough to have one. Exercise, fresh air and some isolation

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 21/03/2020 16:45

Yes I’ve just been in mine, tidying and preparing. I haven’t felt as chilled in weeks. Enjoy.

user1498572889 · 21/03/2020 16:47

Yes

CallmeAngelina · 21/03/2020 16:48

Absolutely yes.
I feel much better for having just mown the lawn. Fresh air in the sunshine and it looks better too.
I reckon loads of us are going to have fabulous gardens this summer! And cleaner, better-maintained houses.

FinallyHere · 21/03/2020 16:49

I can't imagine how the virus could be present in your garden, so it sounds like the perfect place to be. Enjoy.

TeaAndDarkToast · 21/03/2020 17:25

Yes! It has been very therapeutic. Fresh air and private space.

Just sitting with a cup of tea. Or watching the daily squirrel on his commute, the cat who loves to bask under the Brabantia tree full of washing Grin.

I appreciate that not everyone has their own outside space which must be sooo hard in these times of social isolation.

I really feel for those who have recently suffered flooding and still living with the impact. I wish to God for a miracle for them (well all of us).

2 weeks ago I was thinking about money and winning the Lotto and now I really appreciate things like our little garden for which I very grateful.

PurpleDaisies · 21/03/2020 17:26

Why wouldn’t it be? Confused

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 21/03/2020 17:27

Of course you are safe, how are you gonna buy food?

AlfieandAnnieRose · 21/03/2020 17:28

Yes of course, you answered your own question in the second paragraph

FelineUK · 21/03/2020 18:09

Absolutely! It's good for mental health and the overall constitution, get some vitamin D and enjoy the fresh air. I've been able to get out today for the first time since winter as it's not been raining and got my veggie bed prepared for this year's season. Dig 4 Victory! ;-) A good bit of exercise to burn off the anxiety carb-eating I'm doing!!! (Not so good.)

CrunchyCarrot · 21/03/2020 18:10

Yes! Enjoy any good weather we get.

CottonSock · 21/03/2020 18:12

I'll hope to spend most of the spring in my city garden.. if germs fly over the fence I'll take the chance (dh a key worker so far more risk).

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 21/03/2020 18:19

I'm taking my dc outside in the garden, will do their learning outside too when it's a bit milder. We're even going to camp out there in our tent if school's still closed when it gets warmer.

CrocodileFondue · 21/03/2020 18:25

Absolutely use your garden, I'm so envious!

I'd kill for a garden, we've not even got windowsills big enough for boxes. It's going to be a long 12 weeks as we are all high risk.

FelineUK · 21/03/2020 19:09

@CrocodileFondue - grow some things indoors, like mustard and cress, herbs, sprouting veg etc., or get crafty making some cacti gardens - lots of indoor gardening ideas online. Post/deliveries are still being made so you should be able to get any necessary supplies. Wilko good for pots, small bags of compost etc, and ebay for seeds/plants etc. xx

SoloMummy · 21/03/2020 19:21

We will be using ours. We use it a lot normally but now it will be vital. I've even dragged lo out with me when I put/get the washing on the line. Any excuse. And this is only the first week.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 21/03/2020 19:22

Hell yeah ! Anyone with a garden is so lucky , I did a few hours today and was sooo much happier as a result

Whydoesit · 21/03/2020 19:25

My plan is for the DC and myself to basically live in the garden this spring and summer.

I almost certainly have COVID-19 as do my children and we’re self isolating naturally. I have been coughing away in my garden loads this last week.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/03/2020 19:26

I am setting up a routine for DS2 (12) and I have timetabled playing in the garden. He is awful if he hasn’t had enough exercise.

Whydoesit · 21/03/2020 19:27

It's going to be a long 12 weeks as we are all high risk. Surely we’re looking more likely at a lot longer than this? Sad

Beebityboo · 21/03/2020 19:27

I'm glad someone asked this as I'm worried about it too. We're lucky to have a garden but it's very hemmed in so I don't feel safe Sad.

Deelish75 · 21/03/2020 19:30

We've been in ours today and will be out there tomorrow.

amandalives · 21/03/2020 19:50

Yes it's safe. We're going to use this time to make the garden nice.

letsjog · 22/03/2020 08:27

Thankyou for all the replies they're really reassuring.

We've got lots of tiding up to do some re-painting and some new borders that need turning and planting.
Will give it a go even though I've never planted a thing in my life Blush
Bought some bee friendly wildflowers and hoping to have a colourful garden this summer.
