Should I be in my garden?

Currently WFH with DP and 2 DCs avoiding going out unless it's for food.

We live quite rurally whilst we have neighbours to each side (terraced) we have a 2m + fence on one side of garden and a 2m hedge on the other. No one really out as neighbours are elderly.
We have no immediate neighbours behind garden for 50 meters or more.

Is it safe to be out in our own garden? Are DCs safe out there ?

We thought about catching up with a few jobs in the run up to summer but unsure as to what the guidelines are.

Can anyone advise?

I hop so as I'm planning to start landscaping mine while we're forced to stay home! It'll be good physical outdoor exercise.

You’re scaremongering bignet. Nobody from any reputable source has told us not to go outside.

Sally872 · 22/03/2020 08:55

@Bignet182 can you tell us where you got this information? Screams fake news to me. If so irresponsible to repeat it.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 22/03/2020 08:57

Yes absolutely fine to use your garden. We hopefully have a climbing frame arriving tomorrow (will ask delivery driver to leave on drive) and we intend for DS to use the garden every day and I plan to grow a lot of fruit and veg in it :)

Whydoesit · 22/03/2020 09:03

If this is the case Bignet then I think none of us should bother with isolation or distancing as it’s going to be in the air anyway.

The 2m rule comes from all health professionals and we are being told repeatedly that getting fresh air is good for everyone.

Incontinencesucks · 22/03/2020 09:10

Bignet182 if that was the case then everyone would be infected and very quickly, exponentially across the globe. There would be no point isolating as people have open windows and vents.

MaudesMum · 22/03/2020 09:19

I think the only thing to be careful about is in small city gardens or yards, where if a neighbour is in their garden, the distance between them in theirs and you in yours could be less than 2 metres, but that doesn't sound like its the case with yours. I'm on a terrace of houses with a footpath running between the houses and gardens, so I'm planning to move benches and other garden furniture away from the footpath, so I feel entirely secure...

Bignet182 · 22/03/2020 09:29

@Sally872 I got it from Reuters, you can find the article here

mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN2143QP

Not sure why my post was deleted by MNHQ but if you want to take the risk that’s on you, since it’s a matter of life and death I’ll not be taking the risk.

Incontinencesucks · 22/03/2020 09:34

So you'll not be opening any windows or outside doors then? If it was airborne, they'd be a way in.

Bignet182 · 22/03/2020 09:49

I’m going to minimise my family’s exposure to being outdoors, Windows will be opened sometimes, same with door while accepting deliveries(I get them to leave it at the door and I collect it 5 mins later). Some people have a higher risk tolerance than others, but I’m just trying to play it safe for now.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 22/03/2020 10:03

Sad that we were going to move this year to have a garden for DS. Now we have a tiny north east facing court yard.Sad

Sally872 · 22/03/2020 10:04

You have made assumptions based on that article, but they are well over and above the restrictions we are being asked to make.

Fine to do that for yourself and be extra cautious. Wrong to suggest that is the advice we are meant to be following. Adding in statements about the wind speed made it sound more factual than your own opinion.

Think of the people reading your deleted post who cannot self isolate? Key workers, those who cannot get shopping delivered etc.

We are all scared, we must all follow the social distancing advice. Important not to cause more panic. Flowers

My post was to @Bignet182 sorry forgot to tag.

BarbedBloom · 22/03/2020 11:11

I have been. I am growing veggies so just tidying and sowing. We do have terrace gardens but no one else ever uses theirs. I would probably avoid it if people were sat outside
