Would you order a takeaway right now?
Saladmakesmesad · 21/03/2020 15:53
I really want a takeaway and also to support local small businesses but I'm not sure if it's safe. Obviously you don't know who has handled the food when preparing it. Not so worried about the delivery itself as they do a contactless delivery now.
Soontobe60 · 21/03/2020 15:58
I've just had the exact convo with DH! We're going to order from our usual place, serve the food up as usual then zap it in the microwave until its piping hot. I'm guessing it's as safe as buying in fresh pasta or a ready meal from Tesco?
LittlePearl · 21/03/2020 16:02
It's very difficult to catch C19 from ingested food.
The danger is with the packaging so as long as you dispose of the wrappers, containers etc carefully and wash your hands immediately afterwards (before you eat) you will be fine.
katmarie · 21/03/2020 16:19
We had one the night before last, it was fine. For a lot of restaurants at the moment, selling takeaways is going to be the only way they stay afloat.
user1019273703 · 21/03/2020 16:23
Yes. We we are having one tomorrow instead of going out for mothers day
LefttoherownDevizes · 21/03/2020 16:32
yup, Saturday night takeaway whilst watching Saturday night takeaway
Saladmakesmesad · 21/03/2020 16:39
That's very reassuring, thank you. Will get plates ready and decant onto them instead of eating out of the containers like savages as we've been known to do and then bin packaging and scrub hands.
Clutterbugsmum · 21/03/2020 16:42
Yes, and hopefully it will be ok. As it's DS birthday today and we have had to cancel his celebration tomorrow, we bought him a bike which he now is restricted when and were he can ride that. So he asked for a Chinese takeaway as a treat.
AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 21/03/2020 16:42
Absolutely, I wanted to put money into local businesses
LouLouLoo · 21/03/2020 16:43
Yes, we will be using local businesses as much as possible.
Chemenger · 21/03/2020 16:44
We’re having fish and chips because we’ve not been able to buy meat or fish for a week, except for haggis, which we’re keeping for a treat. Can’t buy lentils either, or canned pulses, there’s a clear bias to protein hoarding around here!
Babdoc · 21/03/2020 16:49
I wish I lived near enough to one for that to be an option! I’d encourage anyone who can, to support any of their local restaurants which are trying to keep going by offering takeaway food. It will keep their staff in jobs, and the food packaging is no more dangerous than the food packaging in your local supermarket, which has also been handled by shelf stackers etc.
If you’re concerned about the actual food itself, simply avoid salads and raw food, and pop the meal in the oven or microwave to heat it well before serving.
If we weren’t in lockdown I’d like nothing more than to drive to my nearest town for a nice fish and chips, or curry, to eat alone on Mothering Sunday, rather than having to cook. The DC live 50 miles away in a city, so we won’t be meeting up.
Babygirl66 · 21/03/2020 16:53
Yes, but only from the 3 usual places I take out from, as I know that they follow food hygiene. Wouldn’t try anywhere new
Frenchw1fe · 21/03/2020 16:57
I live in rural France our only takeaway is a pizza cabin which is shut at the moment.
TheMagiciansMewTwo · 21/03/2020 16:58
No. Since we seem to know the virus can live on surfaces and we have no idea of the infection status of the people preparing or delivering the food, we're not ordering takeaways for the foreseeable future.
UnshakenNeedsStirring · 21/03/2020 17:03
No, I wouldnt! The virus can survive on cardboard and hard surfaces for more than 8 hours. Not taking the chance. What if the chef has it but not showing symptoms? Ditto with the delivery person. I jut wouldnt risk it.

You could surely say the same about any delivered food?!
TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 21/03/2020 17:12
Yes, we are having a takeaway for Mother's Day tomorrow.
