To think that places of worship also need to be closed
utterlybutterly8 · 21/03/2020 09:48
Does anyone else think churches, mosques and other places of worship should be forced to close? Obviously mass gatherings of people are not a good idea right now. I haven’t seen any mention of it yet though?
Fatted · 21/03/2020 09:51
I saw on BBC online yesterday the catholic church have called off mass. On the radio last night they were talking to a local mosque leader (don't know the correct term sorry!) who advised they weren't holding their usual gatherings.
StringyPotatoes · 21/03/2020 09:52
Certainly in my diocese they have. The Church of England leaders in my area have asked us not to meet either inside or outside.
My brother lives in a different county and his church has stopped meeting corporately for now too.
We've been asked not to meet in large gatherings and church leaders recognise congregational worship as a large gathering.
Molecule · 21/03/2020 10:06
This has been issued by the Church of England:
“In light of the Government guidance around non-essential contact, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have issued advice that public worship is suspended until further notice.”
Certainly my church has taken that to mean no church services, and I would assume that most faiths have done the same.
TLIMSISNW · 21/03/2020 10:07
My church has closed, they’re going to livestream the preaches.
DMCWelshcakes · 21/03/2020 10:10
The congregations have all closed in our church. We're doing livestream services, communions and prayer groups instead. There are also virtual homegroups running too.
God bless the interwebs!
EdithWeston · 21/03/2020 10:10
I thought they had (many last weekend)
Individual ministry still going on, and I'm sure Virtual Congregations will start popping up.
Weddings still happening, but some he's at least are capping permitted attendance.
I don't know what is happening about funerals. For those unlucky enough to need need to plan one soon, then it might be worth thinking about basic crem/burial and memorial service later
Duchessofblandings · 21/03/2020 10:12
Most have here. Any who don’t must be ordered to.
NannyR · 21/03/2020 10:12
Ours has stopped all services and gatherings. I think the church of England advice is weddings and funerals can go ahead with a limited number of attendees.
halcyondays · 21/03/2020 10:13
I think most of them already have. I think some are keeping their doors open so people can go in and pray but no services or gatherings of any kind.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/03/2020 10:14
The C of E and Catholic Church are both ended regular services and mass gatherings.
isittheholidaysyet · 21/03/2020 10:15
Catholics: No Mass or services, from today.
Churches can be open for personal prayer if proper social distancing is observed.
No funeral Masses or church services. Straight to Crem or graveside.
(Not sure what's happening to weddings)
(I say no Mass, actually the priest will say it in private.)
C of E and Methodists have also stopped all worship.
EducatingArti · 21/03/2020 10:17
All services and other events ( eg playgroup, cafe, home groups etc) have all stopped at my church.
PotsofChoc · 21/03/2020 10:18
Our local Mosque is closed, they are advising people to pray at home.
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/03/2020 10:21
DH and DS1 prayed at home yesterday as the local mosques are shut.
SugarMiceInTheRain · 21/03/2020 10:22
Ours has. We are trying to hold Zoom meetings to stay in touch and keep each other buoyed up.
angelcakebananabrain · 21/03/2020 10:25
My local mosque is closed for Jummah prayers but open for individual prayer if social distancing is observed but I think that will change soon and it will close entirely.
Corneysjazzband · 21/03/2020 10:34
Our C of E church building is open but all services and gatherings are cancelled.
CinderellasSecrets · 21/03/2020 12:09
I know someone who goes to an orthodox church who was sharing that they were happy to share from the same cup and spoon each week and weren't afraid of germs because God wouldn't let anything bad happen to them 🤨 so yes churches do need to be closed, it would appear that some people lose all common sense where religion is concerned
daisypond · 21/03/2020 12:11
Church of England has closed. Also only basic weddings now - vicar, couple, 2 witnesses. That’s it.
