Self catering holiday this week

Olsihabi · 21/03/2020 08:30

We were supposed to be going on a self- catering holiday today for a "big" birthday - just me, DP and the dog. We can't decide whether to go or not. Neither of us have any symptoms, have both been working at home all week (I work at home all the time anyway) and have not been mixing with other people.

Where we are going is pretty rural, we'd keep to ourselves and just go for walks at a remote beach. We have enough food to take to last the week and then won't have any reason to go to areas with lots of people. Is there any difference between doing all this at home and somewhere else? There hasn't been anyone staying in the cottage where we're going all this week, and the official word from the cottage company is that they are happy for people to continue with their holidays.

Do we go or stay at home? Confused

I agree in principle but Italy was different , they were all out and about in restaurants bars etc. If they are honestly in a self contained apartment, going for solitary walks. It's no different to being at home

CVRD · 21/03/2020 10:38

Marry what if they are currently asymptotic but harbouring it and become unwell while they are there - so a two week strict isolation period with one weeks food supply in someone's holiday cottage with possible other bookings?

Please can you answer that question?

CVRD · 21/03/2020 10:38

@Maddy68

CVRD · 21/03/2020 10:38

Ugh spellings

CVRD · 21/03/2020 10:40

Actually fuck it, there's enough of these threads where people are so fucking stupid or ignorant we are just wasting our time. If you don't understand now what hope is there

ICouldHaveDancedAllNight · 21/03/2020 10:43

Sorry, but this situation is a bit like the issue of consent.
If you are having to tack a load of 'but what ifs...' to a situation, then it's probably a poor choice.

For this situation to be completely moral and un-anxiety inducing for the OP, they would for sure need to know they are virus free (and you wouldn't know that unless you'd just been tested or having been in quarantine for 14 days), will absolutely not need to contact anyone (petrol station?) and are prepared to live it out if there is a lockdown.

Again, I am in a country ahead of the UK and this question would be seen as Confused.

ICouldHaveDancedAllNight · 21/03/2020 10:45

Sorry I seem so invested. My son is in a vulnerable group [immunodeficient] and it just seems a slap in the face that people can't think of others.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/03/2020 10:53

It would be very selfish to go.

It’s non essential travel.

Panicmode1 · 21/03/2020 10:57

We have cancelled our self catering holiday (to Cornwall) a week on Sat. Its 'non essential travel'. I'm sad, we were really looking forward to a break, and we were going to see my parents on the way down. I have accepted that I'm not going to see my parents for at least 3 months and that we all need to be selfless for some time to come, in order to protect others, and not overwhelm the NHS any more than it will be. Don't go.

FlushedZebra · 21/03/2020 11:06

The message is clear - no non-essential travel.

Stay at home OP.

Hillocrew · 21/03/2020 11:06

Please stay home
It's not essential travel
We just don't know what's going to happen but we do know Italians heading of on such trips as what you have planned greatly contributed to the pandemic

Glassmami · 21/03/2020 11:11

I live somewhere rural where a large proportion of our community are elderly, please stay at home! The amount of holidaymakers that has turned up here in the last week is disgusting! No one is listening to social distancing, this is what spreads this virus!

crustycrab · 21/03/2020 11:16

The house next door to me is a holiday let. Last night people arrived, adding to our already stretched resources. They're not the only ones in the area that think their holiday is more important than doing what they are told to do.

Stay at home

adaline · 21/03/2020 11:18

What is that people aren't understanding here?

Your holiday is not essential.
Stay home.

SwimForBrighterDays · 21/03/2020 11:36
Hmm
Olsihabi · 21/03/2020 12:02

We are staying at home and will see if we can postpone to next year.

@Olsihabi. You are one of the good ones in life. Smile

Badbilly · 21/03/2020 12:13

There are so many threads on here that basically all boil down to the same thing-

DO THE RULES APPLY TO ME.?

The short answer is

"YES THEY FUCKING DO"

The government have clearly stated "No Non-essential travel". Which part of that don't you understand.

nicknamehelp · 21/03/2020 12:30

Its not essential travel so please don't go. Me and my dh are having to do essential travel and are desperately hoping for no more restrictions that will make this even harder. Which will happen if people keep think their journey which isnt essential wont matter.

Holdmenow · 21/03/2020 12:31

And THIS ladies and gentlemen is why the U.K. will end up having a worse turn out than Italy!!! Ffs!! STAY HOME!!!!!

CouldBeOuting · 21/03/2020 12:54

We were supposed to going to a rural safe catering cottage at Easter. Unfortunately we booked direct with the owner by bank transfer during our last stay. I think it’s unlikely we will be getting our £1100 back..... BUT we are following government advice...

mogloveseggs · 21/03/2020 12:56

You can't go. You know this.

Spidey66 · 21/03/2020 13:00

@CouldBeOuting
Have you asked the owner? I'm sure they'd be obliging, given the current circumstances.

Gutterton · 21/03/2020 13:02

Let’s try this tack......

Why would YOU put yourself and your DH at risk by deep cleaning someone else’s house?

Do you have the full PPE and chemicals - have you seen how they are spraying the streets, lampposts etc in EU.

You have no idea of the health status of anyone who has been in the last few days to do maintenance, clean, drop linen etc

Conrad79 · 21/03/2020 13:19

Olsihabi

We are staying at home and will see if we can postpone to next year

Thank yooou Smile
