Who knows what the next 12 weeks will bring? Surely making sure we’ve got the basics for beans on toast for DS is just providing for our nearest and dearest? I’ve only got one crate of food and one of non food put aside!

@whoknows2017 Monday Medley? Date night surprise? What on EARTH are you waffling on about?!?!

Curious78 · 21/03/2020 00:48

But even you sensible and carefully planned stockpilers, can you not see that moving forward, you're going to have to adjust your spending habits while we get back on track?

ButiLoveHim32 · 21/03/2020 01:11

mummooo I think that's the saddest post I've ever read. I'm so sorry your in that situation. I wish I was in a position to help change it. Life is shit Flowers people will probably sigh or roll their eyes at this, but I will be praying for you and your kids.

Crafting1Queen · 21/03/2020 01:14

Here's a Biscuit, quick, pop that in your stockpiling trolley, here have Biscuit Biscuit more. As long as you're alright Jack Eh?

Rubymay · 21/03/2020 01:18

We had this in Ireland last week but thankfully things have settled down, our local small shops are fully stocked it's only the big supermarkets that are low on certain stock. Butchers, fish mongers, etc are fully stocked & deliver which is a huge help for all those who can not go out. Staff on the frontline should be first in getting basic supplies!!!

MrsEricBana · 21/03/2020 01:22

It is wrong. It's not greed though, it's fear.

AngelicaKauffman · 21/03/2020 01:47

Do people not use three tins of tomatoes a week on a regular basis? One spaghetti bolognese, one veggy chilli and one cooked breakfast at the weekend will do it

Lol. I'm sure some do and some don't. I don't think it's a given, by any stretch. As in, I'm sure it's not super unusual, but I don't think it's really common either.

housemdwaswrong · 21/03/2020 01:47

No, of course it's not. Bugger everyone who budgets for a weekly shop and can't get anything. Likewise anyone that runs out of something unexpectedly like paracetamol etc and absolutely don't worry about people that struggle to get to a shop, possibly financially, regarding ransport or physically then when they do make it there's nothing there. Of course it's not wrong. Everyone should do it to keep the suppliers on their toes, & make the supermarkets take on more staff to expose to the virus. It's all right and proper.

Mummoomoocow · 21/03/2020 01:48

@ButiLoveHim32 thanks for your kind reply, it's nice to think that at least one person can think beyond themselves, it's very lonely at the bottom even though there's swathes of us

FuckOffCorona · 21/03/2020 08:42

Despicable behaviour. Truly the height of selfishness.

TheSandman · 21/03/2020 15:10

I bought more cheese than maybe i needed, but theyve got july expiry dates.

Cheese freezes. It's crumblier when thawed but perfectly good for cooking with..

FrangipaniBlue · 21/03/2020 15:26

The shops are not going to close. The food chain is fine. The problem is you OP.

This.

The thing is OP there are not now, nor will there be any food shortages and supermarkets will remain open, so why can't you just carry on doing your normal shop without the stockpiling?

Because of people like you UNNECESSARILY worrying about providing for your loved ones there are people who now genuinely CAN'T provide for their families.

YAB MASSIVELY U

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/03/2020 15:32

Given that the empty shelves and the feelings of fear are due to the selfish actions of stockpilers YABVU.

We have a lot of elderly residents and they need to self isolate. Because they couldn't shop they now need to worry about how they will get food for the next few weeks and other people have to put themselves at greater risk in order to help them.

So yes, it really is a big deal!

TheSandman · 21/03/2020 19:49

The psychology of this is fascinating. I'm a careful shopper - with well stocked cupboards and freezers from Brexit prepping. I compare the prices of everything when I shop just make sure the "Buy three small for the price of two!" is actually value for money. I don't buy some things in some shops because I know I can get it a few pennies cheaper just down the road. I have 5 mouths to feed on a very limited income.

Today I went into town (20 minute drive to nearest supermarket) to get bread, cheese and veg. Perishables. I wasn't needing pasta, flour long life milk etc. but the sight of the shelves that usually hold them empty prompted a real need in me to buy something. Anything. It was almost a panic reaction.

I've got weeks worth of pasta rice and flour in my stores. I didn't need them. But the fact that I could get them really dug up some deep atavistic urge to acquire.

TheSandman · 21/03/2020 19:51

---- I COULDN'T get them.

Damn my fat fingers!

babydogandi · 25/03/2020 18:01

We've technically stock piled I suppose however we did it well before everyone else started. I did it at the start of feb. I have enough food to feed my family for 3 months. It will all be used with no waste. I've batch cooked meals and frozen and got a variety of pasta bake sauces and various bags of pasta. I've got enough so if my parents or my OH parents or grandparents needed some meals I could provide. I don't think it's selfish because there was plenty there when I went and I think it's good to be prepared to not go out and about. 🤷🏼‍♀️

EL8888 · 25/03/2020 18:12

@alloutoffucks kind of clarifies why people have issues with obesity and diabetes, excessive eating with lead to them

People may not feel selfish but it is selfish. If there are only a few of things then why not take 1. Instead of 4 or 5, when the limit is 3

EL8888 · 25/03/2020 18:13

@Crafting1Queen quite!
