Schools have closed, round here teenagers have been out every night celebrating impending closures. Some people seem to think this is an excuse to party, to go and visit friends.

Do people not understand what’s going on?

Have you not seen what’s happening in Italy right now?
627 new deaths today.
This will be happening here very soon.

FFS stay in unless you absolutely have to go out, keep your children away from other people, have some social responsibility!

All those still going out right now, you’re no better than drink drivers. You will be partly responsible for the NHS being overloaded and for people’s deaths.

Those who are still going out and about and not socially distancing.

Not @FatAlbert that's MN suggestion which overrid me tagging @HeresToTheCrazyOnes

BandB2019 · 21/03/2020 05:28

...what about my situation?

Living with parents as enduring divorce. Dad suffers heart problems. Husband just an idiot been working at his family run factory all week and at the pub. Court order Sunday each week. Know he's been out and business as usual this week. We've been isolating for all week. The order means I have to make son available. What do I do! Risk!

user1471605495 · 21/03/2020 05:37

Deny him access due to safeguarding. He is endangering the health of your children and trying to murder your father and everyone else in the country by overwhelming the NHS. Lock the doors. These are unprecedented times. If you have to break rules DO SO and worry about the consequences later. Of you have evidence that he has been ignoring social distancing advice keep it safe.

Nannewnannew · 21/03/2020 07:27

nothemessiah oh good yet another post to knock the ‘boomers’
Do you honestly think that the majority of the younger generation think one jot about the present political injustices when they are heading off to their nights out? Do they heck!
I am just incensed that people who were not even alive then have the cheek to condemn the boomers for their current struggles. Believe me, it was not all cake and ale then.

Quickquestion2020 · 21/03/2020 07:48

*Is it really all that surprising, given the current political climate, that teens and twenty-somethings are perhaps not as concerned as maybe they would otherwise have been about a virus that mainly effects the over-50's.

They are being asked to make big sacrifices for a generation that has consistently voted for their own best interests first and against what the younger generation would have wanted.*

Actually a very legit point. The past few years have really fractured relations between these two generations. The older generation repeatedly choosing themselves at the cost of the younger. Despite the younger begging them to think of their future. And now the younger, being less at risk are being asked to do something the older generation aren't even willing to do for themselves. Isolate from their friends and not exercise when in such a formative stage of their lives for these things. Aswell as having their exams stripped away that they've worked so hard for.

I honestly think we could be giving a lot more compassion and sympathy to the younger generation, their futures are seriously bleak.

Quickquestion2020 · 21/03/2020 07:51

Obviously ALL our futures are bleak. But they haven't even started yet. They can only hope our generations do the right things and they dont have a lot of faith in any of us from past events.

I’m very pleased to say my 16 year old son “is” taking this seriously! We are both self isolating since he got back from a low risk country earlier in the week. He was worried about going away in the first place just in case he was carrying it and passed it on to someone else. I am so Thankful for PS4.... words I never thought I would say... we are both walking early in a morn as I live very rural and see no one, food is delivered every sat and I wfh so we have been like this all week anyway. I saw this coming a month ago so have been preparing! Spoke to my friend who is a hairdresser on Tuesday, she asked me why I have been WFH, I told her what was going on in the world and UK ... it just isn’t sinking in with her... I happened to say shops are selling out of loo rolls... she said why Diarrhea isn’t a symptom is it? There are some people that are very grown up about this and take precaution and there are those that just don’t have a clue....Boris shut down now please!!

flowerflies · 21/03/2020 08:22

Some people really do not have a clue. My neighbour said she didn't know what all the fuss was about and they were carrying on as normal.........

Nononoandno · 21/03/2020 08:32

If CV was a visible zombie going round killing people like in films, people would self isolate! People are being very nieve... I told my brother this who goes to the pub every night but then on the other hand calls at my mum’s every weekend and tells her how worried he is about his wifes general health as she has a number of underlying medical conditions!! He just doesn’t see he could take it home to her and kill her! I’ve stopped telling people I have given up they say I’m scare mongering!!

AutumnRose1 · 21/03/2020 08:37

“ Not saying I agree with it at all, but you do reap what you sow to a certain extent.”

So you’re agreeing with it.

Beelzebop · 21/03/2020 08:38

I really wish that it had a nasty rash with it, preferably facial. That would stop them.

NataliaOsipova · 21/03/2020 08:39

They are being asked to make big sacrifices for a generation that has consistently voted for their own best interests first and against what the younger generation would have wanted.

This is spot on. And can we be surprised when they don’t? Same with London, if you extend the point - Brexit was a huge “fuck you” to London from the older generation. Can you really expect they get first consideration from this particular group now....?

FatAlbert · 21/03/2020 09:09

@Notthemessiah that’s a very interesting point. I hadn’t thought of that.

I’m not sure it would apply to teenagers and their parents, but it certainly could to younger voters.

@AutumnRose1

“ Not saying I agree with it at all, but you do reap what you sow to a certain extent.”

So you’re agreeing with it.

You do realise that it is actually possible to see someone else's point of view or reasons for doing something without actually agreeing with them?

Or is empathy only what you're asking from the younger generations without actually being able to give some yourself?

Notthemessiah · 21/03/2020 10:08

Do you honestly think that the majority of the younger generation think one jot about the present political injustices when they are heading off to their nights out? Do they heck!

Have you asked them or are you just assuming things for them (as usual)?

If you think that they're resentment of recent decisions and events doesn't factor into their thinking then you really need to pull your head out of the sand and actually listen to some of them sometime.

Notthemessiah · 21/03/2020 10:09

BarbedBloom · 21/03/2020 10:13

It is hopeless. On my FB one friend has just gone out shopping (not for food) and another is having a load of people round later. It makes me want to bang my head against the wall

Notthemessiah · 21/03/2020 10:23

You just have to hope that they have factored into their modelling the fact that a significant number of people will simply ignore the advise and act selfishly anyway.

In the end they are just bringing the date of a full lockdown closer (as well as raising their chances of being the ones queuing at hospitals in two weeks while those of us already isolating stay healthy).

willdoitinaminute · 21/03/2020 10:57
This is a pretty emotive call/ interview. Mascara warning
willdoitinaminute · 21/03/2020 10:58
Sorry will try again
FatAlbert · 21/03/2020 12:40

@willdoitinaminute that’s a sobering video.

I feel exactly the same as that dr, but with the relative luxury of being able to distance myself.

It seems trite to say that drs, nurses, vital workers are all superheroes, but that is honestly what they are.

I hope the government recognises this when things have calmed down, instead of favouring their rich mates.

Our neighbours are having a get together in the garden. It's a small garden. They seem to think it's funny and are rearranging the deckchairs on the titanic garden chairs. They are only a metre apart though. I've given up on people listening.

Mlou32 · 21/03/2020 15:40

They don't give a shit. In Italy, 13 doctors have lost their lives due to coronavirus and 8.3% at last count of the overall healthcare workforce has contracted it. People who have no choice but to go in day after days and face infected patients head on. Yet so many people out there happily continuing to facilitate its spread.

I think you learn a lot about some people during times like these.

nicenewdusters · 21/03/2020 18:59

@BandB2019

Deny access. It's a safeguarding issue. Full stop. I doubt a Court will look kindly on his actions. Even if they do, that's a battle further down the line. For now you just need to all stay safe. If he rings the police I doubt they'll do anything in the current circumstances.
