I know Coronavirus is scary, the constant media scaremongering hasn’t helped either. But let’s get this into perspective, the majority of us will be fine and whilst those of us who fall into the at risk category are anxious it’s still important to realise that there is still a good chance we can recover from this.
But the food stockpiling, sending your kids to school when you know you shouldn’t (yes I know people have financial obligations but if you are really worried about Coronavirus then surely the health of your kids comes first). The threads on MN are sounding pretty hysterical and we aren’t helping each other instead we are creating group hysteria.

Step away from the phone and just calm down and get some perspective. We can’t control this, just have to keep going.

inlawsimnotsure i am really busy but find time to post on here.

wikki it isn't ventilator masks needed it is the entire machines, also face masks and other protective gear, but i appreciate it isn't your job. re beds, what could be done to create beds? in france a military hospital has been requisitioned, for example. the govmt talked about paying for private beds but surely they could requisition? I think that if someone came up with an idea and made a noise about it the govmt would run with it. i take what you say at face value and appreciate you taking the time to post. people need to know.

daisy germany and italy ordered last week. it isn't too late for the uk. they should all have ordered weeks ago, true, but it is most definitely not too late even if there is some delay. even if the average lead in time (1 or 2 weeks) is doubled would still be worth it.

It is possible to take the situation seriously and follow advice assiduously whilst not stirring up mass hysteria. That is self evidently true, and saying it does not warrant personal attacks on people's intelligence or character.

For the idiotic poster saying wiki would have time to panic buy if they had time to post on here, how ridiculous. This paragraph will possible take me a minute to compose, you could spend a couple of hours trudging around shops.

I have a grip thanks. DH is between jobs and that's an extra worry, but at least he's not commuting.

Lockdown here in France, all pretty civilised.

Rural area, shops fairly well stocked if you're not too fussy. People seem to be staying home. There's lots of lawn mowing going on!

Shopping for a week's worth, which is what most people are doing, is not 'panic buying', I do it every week as I don't like spending lots of time shopping. Plus it makes sense now to limit outings, so go once instead of 4 times. DH went today as I am at a small extra risk. He only had one of each thing in the shopping basket (except 2x2 litres of milk and 6 mushrooms).

I'm pretty worried about lack of medical treatment for ongoing conditions and access to medication. And disappointed that I might not be able to get any seeds, plug plants or compost this year as I love growing my own veg.
