The List of Keyworkers is here

The long-awaited list of keyworkers who will be expected to continue to send their children to school is here:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

Tbh it seems that it would have been quicker to list people who aren’t keyworkers. It’s going to be way more than schools were expecting and I’m not sure how we’ll cope.

Mmm, fair point! They could ask what days kids will be in so they can plan staffing etc from there. Hadn’t thought of that.

It's totally dependent on the school.

DS's school has said part days or part time or odd days is perfectly fine.

I assume schools will need to know in advance if a child is going to be in or, especially over the Easter holidays as many will be running a rota system for their staff then, so will need to be mindful of ratios (unless rules on ratios have been relaxed during this crisis)

Ratios have been relaxed but I’m hoping to keep close to them.

So do teachers have to work all the Easter holiday for no extra pay then?

HesMyLobster · 21/03/2020 12:15

Yes it looks that way. TAs too at my school.

ineedaholidaynow · 21/03/2020 12:28

I think our schools are offering time off in lieu for those who work over Easter.

noblegiraffe · 21/03/2020 12:29

Mine is offering payment, as yet unspecified.

For secondary school aged children are still in school, presumably they will be following pre-prepared work via google classroom/online or in packs, the same as many children have been asked to work from at home. Therefore it will just be a case of supervising and helping them with anything they get stuck on. Similarly with primary aged pupils? I think it makes sense and will work, but I wonder how many older children (at least), with parents on this list, will just stay home, even and do their work there anyway.

I'm sorry I haven't read the whole thread. I've skimmed. I work in a school and we've been told to open 9am til 3pm. Head was expecting to offer wrap around care but was told no. Only 9-3. How is that helpful to key workers?!

We are only open school hours because it depends on the schools capacity to manage.
We are closed over Easter and will open after that due to planned work.
We have prioritised the list further and informed parents who can attend which is less is about 11% of the school.
If they wish schools to open over the summer holidays then it needs to be manageable. If opening longer hours means your staff crash in a months time then the school will close completely.

My son and daughter in law are on the list, they are allowed to take my granddaughter into school on Monday but by the end of the day, they both have to have letters from their employer. I have to say that from previous experiences, these are not going to be prompt !

We have had parents who fall under the new Key-person list, who are both either WFH, or not working and have told us that they’ll still be sending their children in, Even though they don’t need to...because they pay for it and can’t cope with them being at home all day.
We have also had parents complaining that their child should be allowed to come in too, as it’s not fair (despite the parents being at home).
We are taking children of key persons from other settings, who aren’t staying open too and from the local community.
We’ll be at about 50-75% capacity and will also be providing online learning and resource packs for those who will be staying at home.
I understand the need for childcare to continue for frontline essential workers, but I think this should be provided for families where both parents (or the lone parent) are key workers, not just one! Children should be kept at home where possible and not sent into school/nursery just because they can!
There’s little point in closing childcare and education settings, if 75% of children can still attend.
I am also concerned that the children in my setting, will technically be at high risk of infection, due to their parents roles.
Children have, are and always will be significant vectors for disease transmission and it should be made clear that children who are high risk, should not be mixing with others needlessly.
I worry that one of these children could give me the virus, which I will in turn, bring home to my family, of whom, three are vulnerable due to chronic lung conditions.
Worrying times!

@kentmum our school has said any member of staff with any health condition OR who lives with somebody with a health condition shouldn't be in. They are classed as working from home.

Due to that we are down to about 50% staff already, before we all start getting ill.
The head originally anticipated we'd have around 20% of children in but it's looking more like 60% now.
We won't manage for long.

Both of us in our house would come under keyworker, but we are planning to juggle our hours so that we do some working from home and some in work but starting earlier or finishing later so our kids will be at home. This week we are still in self isolation so are working from home anyway.

@KentMum81 what your setting is doing is dangerous. That level of capacity isn’t okay!! The setting shouldn’t be taking others in from the community. I hope your LA step in to stop this from continuing.

The vast majority of people are not key workers. A journalist for example who I know who works as a features writer for a magazine is trying to claim she is a key worker. Hardly key is it.
