12 week isolation from tomorrow...

Help me stay sane? Or at least not kill my DP whilst in isolation? Grin

Trying to be chipper but I'm honestly really worried, especially as it's getting harder and harder to get essentials through online shopping (we don't drive and even if we did, I'm in a vulnerable group so my DP has decided to self-isolate too as much as possible along with our child (who is handling all this like a pro) so they don't put me at risk and there isn't an option for them to stay with other people in the meantime... It's going to be a long one.)

Hi sorry to hear that but I would say if your child is on board then you will be 90% sorted. I'm self isolating as currently have virus, with my dd (14) and DH who also has it. She it's fallen out with me for making her miss last day at school! It's a great life.

Sorry to hear that @Casino218. Our shop arrived today. No Pasta, eggs or loo roll (we can deal with the last one if needs must) I can't imagine going through this for another 11 weeks. I can't even get vitamins just in case our fruit/veg doesn't turn up. How the fuck am I meant to make sure my DC stays healthy whilst in isolation? Have frozen some fresh veg but I broke down in tears today. It's just too much. We have plans to grow some veg, but even that takes time.

Sorry to hear you are feeling like that. I guess we all are so you're not alone. Yesterday I started to think: ' could I grow my own veg'? There is enough food though op. We will be ok when people stop being ass holes. Can you get deliveries?

Hi OP, I'm in the same boat, self isolating from tomorrow for 12 weeks - or perhaps longer. It's quite a scary prospect...

Yes I started on Wednesday with my husband and 4 children. I have cardiomyopathy so high risk. Children seem ok with it at the minute but we’ll see how we get on. It’s a long time...

I rely on online grocery shops @Casino218 because I can't drive anyway (epileptic) 2 packs left of pasta thankfully so at least another week's supply, 6 eggs. Ok for TP atm but as I said, have contingencies for that. It's food staples I'm worried about. I grew up with GP's so know how to grow my own food, I'm not worried about the prospect of that despite my garden been the size of a postage stamp. I'm looking at local milkman companies to see what I can get through them, but how long before they're fully booked too?

I'm terrified worriedaboutundiagnosed more for my kid than for me, despite me being the one at risk if I catch it.

Hi all, I am on lockdown as of today as chronic asthmatic who had to go on nebulizer twice last year also steroids and hospitalised once. Dh also self isolating as he has brain surgery and only got out of hospital last Friday evening. Dc is vulnerable as goes to special school and has education plan but now this evening we got message no school next week as having deep clean so now wondering if someone had symptoms and went to school. I will teach him at home as early retired teacher. No flour here which is a pity because dc wanted me to show him how to make a pizza. I have shopped twice this week in anticipation of 12 weeks self isolation. Imhave also colected my prescription. I have booked online shopping which I have not done before and it took ages. I have delivery slot for 5.30-6.30am on 8th April. Best I could do. My adult son did bring me a pile of fruit today as I had been moaning about not being able to buy any. For Mothers Day instead of flowers.

Can anyone help you get food? Do you have a local Church? Ours are running all sorts of initiatives across the communtiy for everyone regardless of whether or not they attend services. They leave things on the doorstep in the case of people in self isolation. I imagine most will be doing similar.

Any local farm shops doing deliveries or restaurents converting to take outs for duration? Even if they aren't doing deliveries for most people it would be worth having the conversation in your circumstances.

You can buy online Costco membership even if you don't meet the requirements for the card to go in store and they sell vitamins etc online. No guarentee that they'll have them in stock but it's maybe worth considering. You can check they have stock before commiting to the £15 fee.

We're on day 8 of self isolation (have symptoms), haven't killed dh yet but the honeymoon wore off pretty fast not helped by the fact he's trying to work and our kids are 21 months and 5 years old.

How did you guys get your sick notes for the 12 week isolation? I need one but the NHS website is less than helpful and only provides them for people who have symptoms or live with people with symptoms!

I can't even get vitamins just in case our fruit/veg doesn't turn up.

Another place to try would be Holland & Barrett. They deliver.

I am busy planning how to dc ocupied. I have decided if it not raining he can run twice around the lake very close to us and about 2k run. He is very sporty and usually does swim squad training for 2-3 hours each week, 1 hour karate and 8 hours cricket/nets and fitness training each week. It will be murder trying to occupy him with no sports or hobbies. I don't let him game. I will listen to him read every day. 1 hour Maths each day. Some cooking as he is doing Dof E Bronze Award and cooking can be his skill. I am assuming he won't be able to do Expedition in June with virus.

I found some multi vitamins in my holiday bag. I have checked date and they are ok. Enough for 2-3 weeks.

We are doing this. Have been out and bought some food. And have a lick and collect booked for a weeks time. Apparently you drive up and they put it in your boot. Much easier to get slots than for delivery. I am worried though about it. Teens have actually been pretty vile last few days. I get they are scared, but it is hard.

@caringcarer Glad to hear you've managed to get some fresh things in, your son sounds lovely. Thankfully keeping DC isn't an issue as we already home ed, so aside from not being able to go out, not much is changing education-wise as we have a decent routine set up already. DC has friends they're keeping in contact with online etc while we get through it.

@Dinosauratemydaffodils Local things are being set up, it's looking like it will be a week or so before we have to use them so I'm researching and trying to get something organised just in case. Thanks for the H&B suggestion, I will have a look.

@kittykat7210 Hopefully someone will be able to answer your question, I WFH as & when work is available otherwise I'm a SAHM & home educate my DC.

Keeping DC occupied* 'Scuse typos. I'm absolutely shattered. Averaging about 4 hours sleep a night maximum at the moment. Hoping the local facebook group will be able to offer support if we need it.

I sympathise with you, Aveisenim and am very glad your child is handling it so well, they often do better than we expect.

It's so much easier for me being alone, I can please myself what I do. Not everyone has that privilege. That doesn't help you though.

I hope you have a place big enough to be able to go into a room and read, sleep or do whatever you want. Tell your husband you need your space, hopefully he'll get used to it.

Dinosauratemydaffodils-Another place to try would be Holland & Barrett. They deliver.

Yeah they also do food including some frozen food. But all of it is quorn or vegetarian but it's very nice.

You might have a better chance of getting food there as not many people use it to buy food as they do with Tescos. Holland and Barrett also do rice and coscus.

I'm on day 10 of whole family self isolating. I and DD2 in severe risk categories. So far it's going great and despite all 3 dc having sn they understand and are fully supportive. Every day I sit down and do one activity with them and we are ten days in everyone is still very happy. Only problem is my mum normally lives with us but stayed with my sister as is not vulnerable and wants to continue work so dc are understandably missing her but we face time each night.

I have a lot more activities lined up and I have told dc I am buying them a journal to write everything down as not only will this be good to let things out I said we are living in what will become a historic moment and when your children ask about this you can read your journal to them. They love the idea.

My dc are 14, 10 and 8 and fingers crossed it continues going well plus next week we are starting diy as I promised dc that as my mum moved out I'm changing all the rooms round so they all have their own room. So they like the fact it's going to get done quicker.

I am buying them a journal to write everything down

I'm doing a bullet point journal to keep track of the books we're reading, the lessons we're doing (Dc1 who is 5 wants South America as a focal point for next week) and what I'm cooking.

Day 2. I've managed to order some pasta through eBay for a reasonable price (some of the prices on there are NUTS) but managed to get a decent amount for under a tenner.

Going to see if we can skype/facetime with DC's GM and godfather as we're not going to see them for a while. Can't facetime with my GP as in a care home with no internet, but phoning more regularly to try and stay in touch. We were meant to be going up next month for a birthday celebration but that's out of the window now so going to talk to the home and see if there are any alternatives we can do.

Writing down a list of jobs that need doing to keep us busy. Hopefully, at least the house will look a bit better by the end of this. Haha.

Also starting a list of local companies who do deliveries of essentials.

Our house is tiny, the garden is postage stamp size but we're already used to working around my health and this is no different so prepared in that respect. We don't have local support as those who would support us are in isolation too or live too far away now. Neighbours recently moved away so have joined a few local FB groups just in case. Hoping we can get through this without asking anyone for help, purely so that we can keep contact to a minimum & limit others exposure to the virus too.
