For comparison, How is your work dealing with all this?

Like many others. Getting incredibly anxious.

My work (huge household name with a multi billion turnover) informed us this afternoon we would only be paid in the event of a lockdown. In the meantime, I have several colleagues self isolating who will get statutory sick pay.

With many of my workforce being working parents, and with the schools closing tomorrow, we have also been informed should we need time of due to parental responsibility we will receive no pay-not even eligible for statutory as it's our choice effectively to take care of the dc's.

We all can work from home, however work have only ordered enough secure laptops for possibly one out of every seven people to do so.

There is zero sanitizers at work, and it appears the cleaners aren't coming in anymore.

I have flushed hot and cold today, and mentioned to my boss I have a sore throat. I was told this wasn't a symptom and I was fine. Came home and Dp has similar symptoms. More than likely a cold, but works reaction was worrying, and I quote ''Well if you don't have a high temperature you haven't got it.''

Dreading going in tomorrow. The atmosphere is hideous.

Very large global financial services firm.

Excellent, majority wfh last 3 weeks, absolutely everyone has from Tuesday this week.

Emails after Boris announced closing of schools to say we understand, we’re flexible.

Full sick pay if you’re isolating etc.

Problem is we are very quiet... they will be quick to stop hiring, to let temp contracts end, to not replace leavers.... I am praying it goes no further than that, but they do take no prisoners...

Neverenoughcoffee · 19/03/2020 21:26

Fantastic. Laptops purchased, PCs packed up to take home, money set aside for small local community grants and homeworkers to get a small allowance toward extra fuel bills.

wishing4sun · 19/03/2020 21:27

Tiny charity Pre-school closed as from tomorrow, with full pay for 2 weeks. My other job major retail outlet haven't got a clue no one has said anything, heads above the clouds.

mon15 · 19/03/2020 21:31

Very large travel company. As you can imagine like everyone else we are getting hit hard so we have been told of cuts to our hours and unfortunately we have to take it as unpaid leave if we can't get in due to lack of childcare. Very worrying times

BlackWhitePurple · 19/03/2020 21:32

Everyone told to work from home, given laptops and tech support. Very few have kids, but for those that do, they've been told to just do what they can.

Lots of company-wide Skype chats and so on, company have actively encouraged everyone to take time each day just to chat to colleagues (not about work, just anything) and to get some exercise.

All pretty good, but they're a good company to work for!

RightOnTheEdge · 19/03/2020 21:34

I'm a single parent, not a key worker and my job is impossible to do from home.

I can't go in after tomorrow, I have no childcare. I won't get paid for time off.

I have no family in my town and any older relatives all have their own jobs to go to anyway.
People have been jumping on and having a go at anyone in my town who is trying to organise babysitting sharing or asking if any teenagers want paying for looking after younger kids.

I understand this obviously with what is going on but it's terrifying facing not having a wage.

InvisibleToEveryone · 19/03/2020 21:35

I work in school catering.

We've been told to carry on as normal .. as much possible .

We dont know how many kids we'll have next week or going forward...but we'll be there to feed them.

Pay wise, basically unless they have nowhere to send us, no pay for absences.

HarrietThePi · 19/03/2020 21:38

Work in a shop, not essential items. We can't work from home. It's all very just carry on as normal and pretend nothing is happening. It's a very big company, they could afford to at least send us a reassuring email or remind us to wash our hands more but there has been nothing. Just peer pressure to keep coming in to work no matter what.

PegasusReturns · 19/03/2020 21:41

Big company. Office closed last week, everyone working from home. Everyone with childcare responsibilities being supported to juggle those with their job.

CoronaIsComing · 19/03/2020 21:41

Appallingly 🤬 and I word for the council with children who have SEND directly in their homes FFS.

Only people who have the listed health conditions can work from home: is most people but not me.

No PPE, have to hand wash in supermarket bathrooms.

No direction from management. The head of service emailed today to say she was having a meeting this morning and would update... she hasn’t. This is the first email she has sent about it. Lower management aren’t interested/ don’t want to make any decisions. They’re saying visits may continue even once the schools are shit which adds another layer of potential infection as siblings will be home.

I’m genuinely disgusted by their lack of direction/ care/ interest and feel like the council have forgotten us.

CoronaIsComing · 19/03/2020 21:42

Sorry for all the typos, I’m really annoyed! Not for me but for the children and families I could be infecting.

Kahlua4me · 19/03/2020 21:43

I run a very small company and we are doing everything we can to help employees. We work in trades so obviously They can’t work from home but I have given them all charcoal face masks, disposable gloves and hand sanitiser. We have discussed it all as a team and so far they are happy to keep working.
Work is quiet though so no idea how long we will keep going. We can pay them for 3 months without any work but may struggle after that so even if we get bits and pieces of work that will help. We are not taking and dividends this year so that will help too.

Ishoos · 19/03/2020 21:45

It’s frightening how many people are not supported through this by their employers. Boris needs to step up and put a comprehensive package in for self employed, individuals and small businesses.

I’m very lucky, work for a large insurer who have excelled themselves, full pay if self isolating or child care, ramping up who has laptops so more can work from home. All over 60, pregnant, underlying conditions sent home on full pay. Attitude is do what you can, you matter to us. We do need to balance that with the customer though as lots of people depend on us. Lots of comms from senior leaders and opportunities to ask questions. Stay safe all.

TARSCOUT · 19/03/2020 21:49

Work has been great, full pay if iff sick, work from home etc. Staff super happy. Unfortunately the reality is we can afford 2 months of this then we are fucked.....

MintyCedric · 19/03/2020 21:50

Secondary school support staff here...schools closing my arse!

We have been told we are all expected in on Monday, including those of us who don't work directly with students and are perfectly able and prepared to work from home.

No readily available info about pay situation and they seem to be picking and choosing who they send home due to vulnerabilities (my LM is aware that I'm asthmatic and have another factor on the list but clearly isn't interested).

Any staff with childcare issues have been told to bring their kids in with them.

So much for reducing the likelihood of infection HmmAngry

HarrietThePi · 19/03/2020 21:53

Some small busineses are doing their best for their employees and some big ones like mine clearly don't give a crap if we get sick or die from this. I bet the head office are all working from home. They'll probably start to close shops when the profits get too low to bother keeping them open, which I expect will be soon, but until that happens they'll expect us to carry on as normal and pretend that nothing is happening. I know it's hard to get hold of hand sanitizer right now but I just want some kind of signal that they're aware of what's going on and that they care about their staff.

BellaVita · 19/03/2020 21:54

DH started on Monday with the virus but his office started WFH Monday anyway. He will get full pay. My company sent me home on full pay.

We are very lucky with who we work for.

DS who is also at home (not unwell) will get sick pay and we have said we will help him with his car payment and insurance and he won’t be expected to pay any board money.

Patchworkpatty · 19/03/2020 21:55

If we have a laptop and are able to work from home, we were all sent home on Tuesday. Full pay, no change.

If we have a medically recommended flu jab each year we are to work at home if we have laptops.
If we are in the group above but have no laptop then we have been sent home on special leave with full pay and told that we are to expect this to be for a minimum of 12 weeks.

Sadly I have a laptop 😩...

If not on prescribed list but live with family member on prescribed list. The 12 week special leave applies if no lap top.. with a laptop it's wfh for same period.

The above also applies to those in sole care of children under 12.

If you have symptoms of ;
A sore throat. OR
A new persistent cough Or
A fever.

You go home and self isolate for 14 days .

If none of the above applies you are expected in work, whilst the office is open. However you should not expect to do your normal job and instead expect to be moved to core jobs.

In complete contrast my son who works as a chef in a very popular London Gastro pub has been told his next paycheque is the last and he will need to claim ssp. I have told him to get his claim for UC in as soon as possible. The rent allowance is £200 less than his actual rent. Where do they invent these 'average rents in the private sector ' from ?
If someone can explain where you can rent a shared flat in Peckham for £428 a month then please tell me where !

I

RayOfFlight · 19/03/2020 21:57

Shite, I'm so disappointed in them and though better of them than this. Semi threatening email about our jobs. The head office, which doesn't need to be open, which could all work from home, is continuing as normal. I am supposedly working from home as a high risk person, but have been called into a meeting with 10 others on Monday.

elQuintoConyo · 19/03/2020 21:58

Fantastic.
I'm teaching via Hangouts.
Lots of ideas flying between boss and other teachers.
Flexible timetable.
Lots of cheering!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/03/2020 21:59

My employer suggested using up any holidays left to be off if no childcare.
There's only 1 fucking week of this financial year left. Everyone has used their bloody leave!

nancy75 · 19/03/2020 22:00

I work for a tiny business, very likely to go under due to this.
My boss told me today I can work from where I want & when I want, if I want time off I can have it - he’s paying me full pay until the money runs out.
He’s a top bloke & puts most of these multi million£ business owners to shame.

Whatsmynextmove · 19/03/2020 22:00

My company has been great.
We’ve got the equipment we need to work from home, dedicated support lines to call, no change to pay and we can work flexibly whilst juggling children. We’ve been told to take whatever needed from the office. I have colleagues self isolating due to illness on full pay. I start working from home as of Monday.

AuditAngel · 19/03/2020 22:09

I work for a large firm. We were waiting for Instructions from HR which didn’t come, so I asked my l8n3 manager if 8 could send home my team membe4 who is asthmatic. 2 new team members also asthmatic so sen5 home to work. Boss has health issues, pointed out he should be WFH.

Tha5 only leaves m3 and my line mabpbager.we work from h9me regularly so fairk6 normal for us.

Currently one DC at home 2 more after tomorrow, including one for GCSE. They understand I willhav3 distractions,I hav3 flexible working to do school pick ups anyway. My boss knows I will answer messages at 6am or 10pm, but the trade off is I’ll do what the kids need.

My rule for theDC is that clothes are compulsory as I may be on Skype

AuditAngel · 19/03/2020 22:10
