I'm right to cancel my holidays later in the year, aren't I?

I know I am really. They are only UK holiday park type holidays and I've only paid deposits. They are in late July and August.

Please don't roast me alive, I'm going to cancel. Its just so final!

What’s final?

PurpleDaisies · 19/03/2020 10:31

I would hold on. Things might be ok by then.

When’s the deadline for you to get your money back?

timeforawine · 19/03/2020 10:31

I'm not cancelling my Aug and Nov holidays until much closer to the time

SnaggleBeast · 19/03/2020 10:32

That we won't be going on even a very cheap UK holiday this year.

I need to pay the balance by May I think. I don't think I'll get the deposit back if I cancel now. I've also got a hire car booked for one which I've already paid for.

Hold on until May. There’s no need to decide now if you’ll lose your deposit anyway. Plus, if holiday places are forced to close by the government you might get some money back. Do you have travfl insurance?

Windyatthebeach · 19/03/2020 10:36

We have a caravan holiday booked for end of May. All paid for.
Haven't considered we won't be going - need something to hope for...

Tootletum · 19/03/2020 10:37

I would wait and see if they cancel then you'll get a refund.

theclockticksslowly · 19/03/2020 10:37

I understand your worry. I’m meant to be going to a UK holiday park at the end of May. Balance due by the end of March. Even on the small chance this has all blown over by then (and I doubt it will have!), my elderly parents are coming with me - they won’t and no doubt shouldn’t even if we were hopefully at the tail end of the virus. So I’m going to let the caravan owner know this week that I will have to cancel. It’s only a little thing in the wider world but still disappointing and upsetting.

countrygirl99 · 19/03/2020 10:39

WIt until you need to pay the balance, you may end up getting the deposit back

BiNgOoOo · 19/03/2020 10:41

I have holiday booked for end of April, I know that will now be cancelled. Also have a holiday to Spain booked in August and I think I am going to hold out to see what happens. No one knows what is going to happen

lubeybooby · 19/03/2020 10:41

How much later in the year? If it's September onward i'd hold on

May, June and July will be completely fucked and possibly August

Caspianberg · 19/03/2020 10:50

I would wait. By August it could be fine. Remember hospital industries are loosing the most right now, so if you can keep your booking, you will be keeping someone else with a job.

halcyondays · 19/03/2020 10:53

We’re similar, have two of these booked for July and have only paid deposits. The balance is due to be paid in April and May, so won’t cancel until then. By then they may all be closed for the summer season and hopefully we’d get our deposits.

Centerparcs did the decent thing and closed until April.

Haven are being awful about this so far, they plan to stay open for
the whole season. Clearly delusional. They’re stopping the entertainment and trying to stop people getting refunds because they’re still open. It’s disgusting, them encouraging people to still come on their holidays.

I’d be far more likely to book future holidays with a company that has been decent about this, than one that’s putting profits before people’s lives.

Chista · 19/03/2020 11:00

We have a holiday booked end of April too, we are not cancelling as we are waiting for it to be cancelled so we have a better chance for a refund

AllesAusLiebe · 19/03/2020 11:02

I would wait, too.

We've got a UK caravan holiday booked for the end of July (Northumberland) and DH and I have flights to Hamburg booked in August for a concert. I'm not dumb enough to think that the concert will still take place, but I haven't cancelled anything yet until we get closer to the time. The family holiday that we have booked is only to a small, independently run place and I don't want to pull my money out yet.

I honestly would keep your booking and wait and see.

NameChange2306 · 19/03/2020 11:04

We have one booked end of July. Not cancelling anything yet. Hoping we’ll be ok to go by then.

NameChange2306 · 19/03/2020 11:05

Oh and it’s in UK and a holiday cottage.

NuclearWinter · 19/03/2020 11:06

I'm not cancelling my Aug and Nov holidays until much closer to the time

Me neither. We have a December holiday booked and will keep the booking/pay for now and just wait and see.

PerfectParrot · 19/03/2020 11:08

I've just cancelled my European trip for the first week of July. Even if we could still go I'm going to need the money and by cancelling now I will get a full refund.

cologne4711 · 19/03/2020 11:18

I had a trip booked for May half term and have moved the booking to the beginning of September, balance doesn't have to be paid until mid July so hopefully we'll have more clarity then.

Writersblock2 · 19/03/2020 11:19

We are heading to America at the end of September. Balance due at the start of July. No way am I considering cancelling until then.

minipie · 19/03/2020 11:30

There’s no point cancelling anything until you have a deadline which affects how much you get back or when you have to pay further money.

Make a diary note for the deadlines and in the meantime check what your travel insurance says.

chickedeee · 19/03/2020 12:09

I am in a similar dilemma, holiday in July, payment end of April.

I am going to give it 30 days and see where we are. Wink

Dramadrama · 19/03/2020 12:10

Don't cancel just yet!
