We're allowed to go out for walks?
ChloeTousignant · 18/03/2020 23:23
Obviously I won't be meeting up with friends, but as long as we aren't symptomatic (so not self isolation) can we go out for walks?
I have 5 kids that will be off school and I think they'll kill each other if we can't got out for an hour or two in the country side?!
Deelish75 · 18/03/2020 23:29
I think Chris Whitty said we need exercise and it's fine to go out for a walk as long as you're not symptomatic and you socially distance. (BBC news corona virus reports)
I live very close to a park so will be taking DD(5) for a walk/scoot/bike ride but we will be staying away from the play equipment. Also a lot of National Trust Gardens are staying open for people to go for a walk (obvs the coffee shop etc won't be open).
amandalives · 18/03/2020 23:33
Yes, I will be trying to daily as good for mental health.
ChloeTousignant · 18/03/2020 23:36
Thanks. Right so don't go on play parks but generally walking about is OK as long as we don't get close to people?
mctagmcbag · 18/03/2020 23:38
bike rides for me and my son, exercise is positively recommended
Balkinfly · 18/03/2020 23:40
Once lockdown is announced we will only be able to walk quickly around the block.
The whole point of this folks, is to break the chain in the virus so we can go back to normal, so stay at home guys if at all possible from Friday.
covetingthepreciousthings · 18/03/2020 23:42
If it's anything like Spain it seems only one person can leave at a time and to go somewhere essential - work or supermarket. I don't think you can just go for a walk in Spain.
I think in Italy you can.
AgentCooper · 18/03/2020 23:42
You know, I wish the government would give us some fucking clarity. So getting out for exercise but social distancing is encouraged but WAIT we’re going into lockdown so no non-essential outside time. And that will last 6 months NO WAIT I mean 4 weeks. Fuck all this shit to pieces.
ChloeTousignant · 18/03/2020 23:46
I think we will go for walks until we are explicitly told not to. We live in the countryside and can walk for hours and barely see another person, and if you do there's always plenty of room to not go anywhere near them as you pass.

Do you live near any National Trust properties with gardens?
Escapetab · 18/03/2020 23:48
RSPB reserves open too, for now, parking free now I think.
amandalives · 18/03/2020 23:52
Yes sorry for clarity me saying I would be going for a walk daily if possible was based on the fact that I can go without seeing another person, live in the countryside.
Balkinfly · 18/03/2020 23:56
Yes but people in populated areas stay at home really and exercise at home.
Bunnylady54 · 18/03/2020 23:58
We live near the beach so will go for walks there. Lucky enough to also be near some beautiful NT gardens. DD isn’t an outdoorsy kind of girl but she can be converted! Could go stir crazy otherwise!
Nettleskeins · 19/03/2020 00:05
Yes, even iin a populated area you can usually find some green space to walk at 6m distance from others. Better to do it now whilst you have chance. It is easy to avoid others if you drive or time it. Whitty.says outside exercise and park GOOD
Allaboardthemagicbus2020 · 19/03/2020 00:09
London Zoo sent an email to members saying that they are still open for visitors (except restaurant is take away only).
Not sure what to make of it as it is outdoors but still a lot of people will use public transport to get there, surely?
Balkinfly · 19/03/2020 00:10
But you won't be able to drive for a walk soon so make the most of it this weekend.
EstuaryBird · 19/03/2020 00:12
DH and I have been isolating for 6 days now and intend to stick to it for as long as it takes (he has quite severe asthma and I have a fair bit of scar tissue in my lungs).
We’re going to go out in the car tomorrow and find somewhere isolated for a walk while we’ve got the chance...then if we’re on lockdown it’ll be back to Leslie Sansone on YouTube!
2catch2 · 19/03/2020 00:26

Same here. Am quite fond of the city, but never have I been so grateful to live in a place without “blocks”.
Designerenvy · 19/03/2020 00:28
I'm in Ireland, schools closed since Friday , and yes, we are able to go for walks. To the beach, the forest, the parks ( no playgrounds ) .
We just bring a ball ( and the dog ), I'm living for our daily walks at this stage .
Balkinfly · 19/03/2020 00:29
2catch2 better hope you don't get an influx of city folk this weekend
Coyoacan · 19/03/2020 00:41
Just curious, what is happening with public transport under shutdown?
I live in Mexico City and we were shutdown for two weeks, but public transport still ran at the time.
2catch2 · 19/03/2020 00:46
@Balkinfly ain’t gonna happen. I’m not in a tourist or 2nd home hotspot. Just ideally situated for the coronapocalypse. I deserve something for putting up with country mud all these years.
