Will it just be NHS nurses or all nurses

Everyone keeps referring to NHS staff (nurses) on the list of keyworkers. Will this include nurses working for private sector or charities who took over NHS contracts? Might seem stupid question but i wonder did anyone get mpre clarity from it than me?

I was wondering about Mental Health nurses too, I know a lot. They might not be on the CV front line but they definitely can't just give up and isolate

Jupiters · 18/03/2020 23:39

The list of who is a key worker is being published tomorrow.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/03/2020 23:43

Any bets it misses loads of second order keyworkers out. So it gets folk who work in a food factory but misses the plastics company that makes the packaging, gets the delivery drivers but misses the mechanics, that kind of thing

maggiecate · 18/03/2020 23:45

I'd imagine It'll be all nurses - anyone who can be requisitioned to help will be. A colleague whose mum was discharged yesterday was speaking to the physio who was having her role changed to auxiliary nurse (acute hospital in Scotland so patients she would have been working with were either being discharged or sent elsewhere). Even for those not on the front line there will be a lot of backfill to cover elsewhere.

This is causing huge concern in the veterinary world too. Animals sadly fall ill and need vets and veterinary nurses. Unfortunately if a large portion of our colleagues are without childcare, veterinary care will suffer. Sad
Veterinary nurses and vets need to be classed as key workers!

CyberNan · 19/03/2020 00:18

thanks to the recession over the past decade there are no unnecessary jobs now and all workers are key.

Seren85 · 19/03/2020 00:18

My best mate is a community MH nurse and she's being sent back to the wards. Sis does adoption social work and is being put on the front line services. Both as key workers.

ladylunchalot · 19/03/2020 00:21

What about NHS admin staff? I can't find anything online. I support clinical community staff.

Nostrings457 · 19/03/2020 19:57

I cant believe they still havent given us all clarity on 'keyworker' roles

I know, I work in an industry (public sector) where we've been told we must continue to protect the public, yet no one can tell me who will look after my son

Rosecatter · 19/03/2020 20:51

I'm nhs admin. We haven't been told anything yet. Our managers were told we would know early this afternoon but we've heard nothing.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/03/2020 21:48

Childcare facilities have been told (in scotland anyway) that we can open to keyworkers/critical staff and those families most in need of support. There's no list, apparently there will be, of what is critical but the list is region specific. Or will be, once they make it. Which will be...

And when they share it. Which will be...

Kidsaregrim · 19/03/2020 21:55

In my area it’s school specific - some are saying both parents have to be key workers.
Mine has listed a key worker as anyone from NHS - bin men - supermarket staff etc - basically anyone who provides a service to the public!

foodtoorder · 19/03/2020 22:04

This has to include all nurses, it's not just about looking after people with the virus it's about continuing safe service delivery. If a nursing home lost its staff the residents would end up in the acute system hence so it has to include anyone keeping the strain of the system down.

Waffles80 · 20/03/2020 05:33

And, both parents do not need to be key workers.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/03/2020 05:48

This is so broad that the hubs will be heaving

thegreenlight · 20/03/2020 06:35

Both parents DO need to be key workers. That is the guidance we have from the government.

thegreenlight · 20/03/2020 06:36

And in our area ALL schools are remaining open.

Roomarmoset · 20/03/2020 06:39

4.2 If only one parent or carer is a critical worker, can I send my children in to school?
Children with at least one parent or carer who are identified as critical workers by the government can send their children to school if required.

thegreenlight · 20/03/2020 06:42

It states on the documentation sent into schools that if one parent is a key worker, the other parent must stay home to care for the child. It’s about minimising the amount of children from different families in school, we have had lots of chancers who are (very loosely) key workers with SAHM spouses or spouses working from home trying to say their child needs to come to school.

thegreenlight · 20/03/2020 06:43

Single parents are exempt, obviously, unless the other biological parent is involved.

thegreenlight · 20/03/2020 06:46

This information is coming from the template letter sent to us from the government.
