My childminder friend has just received this list of who counts as key workers, and been told by her insurers her insurance won’t be valid if she takes non-key worker parents

Will this cover those with one parent who’s a key worker if the other parent is not? Eg one parent is a nurse but the other is in IT for a bank or is a brick layer.

WindFlower92 · 18/03/2020 22:27

Maybe different lists depending on area? Mine was from Portsmouth; maybe different areas will have different needs?

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 18/03/2020 22:27

Ellapaella

I was being sarcastic

I don't need to see a list to know I'll be in.
I'm already doing extra shifts
And already frightened.

Nursing auxiliaries and assistants aren't nurses Buffalo - they are nursing auxiliaries and assistants (similar to health care assistants)

NerrSnerr · 18/03/2020 22:29

Nursing auxiliary and assistants

They're not qualified nurses. As an ex nursing assistant you don't want one trying to manage your ventilator!!

copperoliver · 18/03/2020 22:30

But it says 6122. Childminders. So does that obviously not mean they are key workers and can work if their settling is small. X

TeaAndBisquits · 18/03/2020 22:31

What about us dentist folk?

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 18/03/2020 22:36

So if you are a cashier in a shoe shop you get childcare, if you're a child protection social worker or probation officer managing high risk violent people and sex offenders you don't? I don't think this is real.

stopandListen · 18/03/2020 22:37

@WindFlower92 very helpful as I'm public sector worker (benefits) so am stressing as there is going to be a huge increase in people needing financial support, scary times.

Ladyflip · 18/03/2020 22:42

I'd like to know if farmers are considered key workers. If a supermarket delivery driver is (quoting Boris) then they sureLy need something to deliver?

jimmyhill · 18/03/2020 22:44

Farmer workers, i.e. farmers, are on the OP's list

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 18/03/2020 22:47

Will these groups have to attend school or will it be parental choice, I wonder. I guess they can’t make it compulsory as they have to allow for isolation?

jimmyhill · 18/03/2020 22:47

There is going to be ambiguity because "key workers" is a well known category in relation to priority for social housing

But some posters here are misunderstanding what the key workers list means: it's those who'll be able to have their children schooled / cared for, not those who can work.

Of course teachers and childminders will be on the list because some schools and some early years settings will remain open. So of course childminders and teachers and nursery staff are on the list, because their kids will need schooling / looking after.

PotsofChoc · 18/03/2020 22:54

DCs school sent this list. Doesn’t seem very extensive

Key workers
Verysurprised · 18/03/2020 23:00

Schools are still waiting for a list of who the key workers are. I suppose some are making educated guesses so that they can start to work out how many pupils that may be.
If one parent is not a key worker but the other is, they will not be eligible to attend school.

OntheWaves40 · 18/03/2020 23:06

Do you think teachers will include teaching assistants?

Andonandonan · 18/03/2020 23:10

There isn’t a list yet. Gavin Williamson told me himself. He’s writing it tomorrow, possibly after lunch.

Schools are making educated guesses because they’ve got 2 school days (whilst also teaching very confused and worried children) to plan, sort everything out, communicate plans to parents and make sure all the right people will be where they need to be on Monday.

It's ok, Boris has promised to ring me with the list first thing and I'm to promise to keep it to myself until 2.04pm when I can then paste it on Mumsnet. Watch this space...

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 18/03/2020 23:16

Shout out to a fellow rad 💀

mymadworld · 18/03/2020 23:18

@Andonandonan well when you're next chatting to Gav Wink, could you suggest he might need to make provisions for the thousands of childminders who have been told they must close their doors as of Monday leaving them without any form of income whatsoever (unless you're lucky enough to have the odd key worker on your books).

Scootingthebreeze · 18/03/2020 23:59

@mymadworld I know of several childminders who are closing even though they have keyworkers on their books. I'm wondering if they're allowed to??!?
