Sore throat isn't a symptom is it?

Just today I have a bit of a sore throat, I don't have a temp (36.3 C). I am slightly headachey and was weezeing a little bit yesterday. Normally I wouldn't give any of this a thought but should I am worried. Was at a family gathering last week before everything was shutdown and a few of them have a cold now. Should I be worried or self isolate?

Wheezing maybe concerning

Blewbell · 18/03/2020 20:37

Yes it is and yes you should.

user1496146479 · 18/03/2020 20:37

Sore throat is one of the main symptoms!!

TessTackle · 18/03/2020 20:38

@user1496146479 where have you read that? Doesn’t say on NHS

TooManySocks · 18/03/2020 20:39

The two main symptoms are a fever and a new, persistent cough.

But it'll affect everyone slightly differently - if I had a sore throat and a wheeze, I'd self isolate.

Pineappletree33 · 18/03/2020 20:40

I've been sharing a bed with my husband as usual, do I need to sleep elsewhere?

Yes a sore throat can be a symptom, I would self isolate just to be on the safe side. DS 12 had sore throat/headache which was followed by temperature and coughing within the space of 3 days
We are all self isolating for 14 days.

RickOShay · 18/03/2020 20:42

Ds1 has had a sore throat with no other symptoms for 5 days now. Not getting better or worse. Very odd.

PegLegAntoine · 18/03/2020 20:43

This seems to say it’s not a frequent symptom

DC1 said some classmates have had tonsillitis recently so assuming that’s true and it’s viral then I think my sore throat is that. It’s at the sides mostly but hurts when I swallow. No fever or cough although the DCs have coughed a bit once since the sore throat peaked. Still SI now though

buttermilkwaffles · 18/03/2020 20:44

It is for a minority of cases.

I was very ill in december with a viral infection that matched all the symptoms of covid19, I was really ill then my lungs were crackling, I had a fever, muscle pain so bad I couldn't get out of bed, terrible fatigue and a cough. I really thought I might have had it already. We live in an area with a high amount of students and tourists from mainland china so not impossible.

But who knows, which people could get tested.

nutmeg i had the same beginning of feb. Dd had it first and she had just returned from uni in Wales where they had a lot of chinese students. Body aches, fever, raw lungs, shortness of breath and cough

LittlePearl · 18/03/2020 20:55

The GP who was on the news several times the other day (who had tested positive for CV) said she had a sore throat.

She actually said it was the worst sore throat she'd ever had.

SoShere · 18/03/2020 21:05

Im sure it is.

I started Friday with a sore throat.
Also I went out, as I thought I was o.k and nearly vomited at a show.
Falling asleep on sofa Fri & Sat for 4 hours each time. (Thought I was just tired)
Headache that 'crawls' around the face and head constantly.
Aching all over.
Metallic taste in mouth, all weekend (thought it was an abcess)
Shortness of breath (thought it was muscular)
Then last night I had the worst stabbing pain in my left side of chest, that scared me.
Struggling to get up/down stairs.

Im 80% sure this isnt a 'normal' virus

Only coughed once, but was nearly sick and no temp.

My mate has it, for her it ws a symptom

PegLegAntoine · 18/03/2020 21:16

I’m intrigued at that graph that sputum production is in a third of cases as I really thought it had to be a dry cough.

What I don’t get is how they are saying many won’t even have symptoms, how do they know people can have it without symptoms as presumably even in other countries they wouldn’t have tested those without symptoms? Or did they?

nutmegbrew · 18/03/2020 21:17

NHS app says its unlikely to be covid19

PegLegAntoine · 18/03/2020 21:18

I really hope they can figure out the antibodies test that they mentioned, that will tell people if they’ve had it or not. That will make such a huge difference to the data, as well as obviously on a personal level - I almost hope I have it now as I’m coping with how I feel so far, as the anxiety over “but what if it isn’t, and I do end up with it, and it’s much worse and I get complications” is huge

SoShere · 18/03/2020 21:21

PegLegAntoine Same here. If I have it, at least I can get back to work (hospital) and feel a bit better in 2 weeks about it all.

Cadfaelfan · 18/03/2020 21:23

@PegLegAntoine South Korea has done a huge amount of testing, not just of those who feel unwell and have found that a lot of people in the sub-30 age group are asymptomatic but infected. It's how they've managed to get in under control there.
