Hairdressers and cleaners

Very first world but...

Would you still go to the hairdressers. My hair needs cut badly. Kids also needs cut.

Also two high risk people in the house. We're all at home now. Would you still get your cleaners round??

No and if the uk introduces the same measures as China then all hair salons will have to shut and everyone needs to stay at home.

Elouera · 18/03/2020 19:55

NO. I was actually looking up youtube videos today on how to cut hair. I threatened OH with just getting a bowl and using that as a guide Grin

hopeishere · 18/03/2020 19:58

Wishing I'd had it cut last week!!!

What about the cleaners??

I have to self isolate as have ms, and have explained to our cleaner we can’t have her round at the moment

0blio · 18/03/2020 20:05

I thought I read somewhere that hairdressers and barbers are allowed to stay open in Spain because they provide an essential hygiene service as not everyone is able to wash their own hair.

starrysimon · 18/03/2020 20:06

I’ve got a hair appointment booked in for the 1st of April and went for an updated patch test the other day (pregnant). My hairdresser didn’t seem concerned and he is fully booked for months. He opened his diary later for me (3pm-7pm, roots grown out from icy platinum over 8 months) to fit me in before I give birth bless him! The salon is well sanitised anyway and stunk of bleach when I went in. If he wants to work that’s up to him and of course he still needs a wage to live on.

Cleaners - no I wouldn’t be having people in the home unless completely necessary

AmelieTaylor · 18/03/2020 20:12

haurcuts: I wouldn’t now, no.
Get some clippers/decent scissors!

If I had a cleaner and I was still getting paid I’d ask then not to come, but still pay them if I wasn’t getting paid I’d have to just let them go, but give them any bonus I could afford to & tell them if they still want to do the job ‘after’ I’d love to have them back.

High risk patient in the house, everyone living there would be IN, everyone one rise OUT. NO EXCEPTIONS!

read the thread by NHS workers, don’t believe Boris Bullshit. The NHS is categorically NOT ready for this!

Ilovefoodnotgym · 18/03/2020 20:17

My son needs a haircut too but absolutely no chance. It means coming into contact with more people than is necessary. I’m doing school runs (for two more days) and food shopping, that’s it.

happymummy12345 · 18/03/2020 20:27

Not hair but I have my next two nail and eyebrow appointments booked one next Thursday 26th March for my birthday nails, the next one two week later on the 9th April for my wedding anniversary nails, and will be going if I am able to. My lady is self employed so will no doubt struggle if she is unable to work. She and always practices good hygiene anyway and everyone who is based in the salon are taking all necessary precautions at this time. I will support her as long as I can. I realise I probably won't be able to go but I'm still hoping I can.

1981m · 18/03/2020 20:39

No to hairdressers

Yes, my cleaner is coming tomorrow

Inkpaperstars · 18/03/2020 20:40

If anyone does decide to go, maybe go in with wet hair, get them to cut it very quickly and basically, and leave with wet hair.

I am kicking myself for not going earlier, think will probably have to cut my own hair now just so I can eke out the conditioner.

purpleme12 · 18/03/2020 21:41

I was wondering this as well. My daughter needs her fringe cut. I getting increasingly scared of everything

OhamIreally · 19/03/2020 18:12

My cleaner is 70 and told me she wasn't coming (I was about to ask her not to come). I am getting paid so I am paying her.

IntermittentParps · 19/03/2020 18:17

I need a haircut and my cleaner is due this weekend. I've no intention of asking my hairdresser to come because a hairdresser stands over you for a sustained period and I suspect if I did ask she wouldn't want to come over anyway.

I feel happier about the idea my cleaner coming than having my hair cut; we can all easily avoid each other just by not being in the same room. I think she probably won't want to though, maybe not because of proximity to my household but because she'd have to get public transport, and I assume she wants to avoid that.

IntermittentParps · 19/03/2020 18:18

Oh, and I've got shellac toenails at the mo that have already been on for about a fortnight. I think the salon is closed and even if it wasn't, I wouldn't want to have that kind of appointment, for their sake and mine. Am a bit worried about 'suffocating' my toenails if this goes on for a long time though!

DeadBod · 19/03/2020 18:22

No and no.
The salon may be spotless but that doesn't change the number of people that he has come into contact with.

NoSauce · 19/03/2020 18:26

Nope. Cancelled hair and facial appointments.

johnwayneisbigleggy · 19/03/2020 18:27

I'm a cleaner and still working - thankfully. Using customers kit instead of taking my own, plenty of hand washing, gloves if required antibacterial on door handles and switches. Please don't cancel your cleaners!

Tatty101 · 19/03/2020 18:30

How is getting a hair cut social distancing?

Nononoandno · 19/03/2020 18:33

I think we need the bbc to take their cameras into the hospitals!! People are just not taking this seriously! Haircuts are just not essential, the gov will ended up forcing shutdown because people are not just not following advice

IndecentFeminist · 19/03/2020 18:33

What about a hairdresser that comes to your house? 🤔

IntermittentParps · 19/03/2020 18:40

IndecentFeminist, mine does, and drives over rather than using public transport; but we're still going to be in close proximity to each other. Plus, even if she's not been in contact with anyone outside her household, I have (albeit only to food shops in the past few days), and who knows if I might have it?
I don't want to take the risk, partly for me and my household but more for her.

user1471453601 · 19/03/2020 18:44

No to hairdresser, but my cleaner came today. I'm self isolating ( over 70 with underlying health conditions. She was really helpful, rang the bell, stood a good way down the path when DD opened door, put gloves on we provided, made her own tea and washed cup in hot soapy water, disposed of gloves when she finished. She didn't clean my bedroom, cos I was hiding out in it at the time

LikeDuhWhatever · 19/03/2020 18:48

I am sure hairdressers know how to keep themselves and their clients safe. They are not irresponsible little children. They won’t be sneezing or coughing on you, they will probably even wear masks. Their hands will be clean. They will be regularly disinfecting their tools and environment.

notangelinajolie · 19/03/2020 18:58

My hairdressers are still open but I called them today and cancelled my appointment which was for tomorrow.
