Hairdressers and cleaners

Very first world but...

Would you still go to the hairdressers. My hair needs cut badly. Kids also needs cut.

Also two high risk people in the house. We're all at home now. Would you still get your cleaners round??

I've decided I just have to grow my child's fringe out rather than get it cut with everything how it is. She's not happy with me. She doesn't want to grow it out

NoSauce · 19/03/2020 19:06

I am sure hairdressers know how to keep themselves and their clients safe. They are not irresponsible little children. They won’t be sneezing or coughing on you, they will probably even wear masks. Their hands will be clean. They will be regularly disinfecting their tools and environment

Right and what if someone with the virus going for their haircut coughs and sneezes on you? Hmm

FairyBunnyAgain · 19/03/2020 19:20

Went to beautician, hairdressers and therapy massage last week, but last Saturday was my cut off and I will not be attending until we are through this crisis, that’s 12+ weeks so my roots will be showing and my back will be very stiff.

I have cancelled the cleaner but will continue to pay her for as long as DH and I are paid, currently this will be for the duration.

Mlou32 · 19/03/2020 19:29

Of course you cannot go. What do folk not understand about no non essential contact?

MissSmiley · 19/03/2020 19:42

My mother has just told me she's still getting her hair done tomorrow, over 70 and has Parkinson's disease

Can I go to the bank?

SquigglePigs · 19/03/2020 19:49

Our cleaner is coming as usual tomorrow. We'll review week by week. At the moment the last thing we want on top of two jobs working from home and a 15 month old 24/7 is to have to do a few hours+ cleaning a week!

SwedishEdith · 19/03/2020 20:02

No to hairdresser. It's not about whether they're clean - I assume they're extremely low risk on that front as always shampooing hair. But, they are too close for too long and they have multiple contacts. It's awful and I feel so sorry about that (and I'm happy to pay what I would have paid anyway) but it's definitely close contact and non-essential.

Maisieme · 19/03/2020 20:08

I’ve used clippers on my husband for 30 years and they are so easy to use. I know they aren’t really suitable for women though .

Nononoandno · 19/03/2020 20:41

We can all help hairdressers and beauty therapist by buying gift vouchers if you feel guilty about canceling, this money will help them to pay rent and wages over the difficult months, and redeemed at a later date

LikeDuhWhatever · 19/03/2020 21:23

NoSauce if a salon decides to stay open then surely it’s a risk they are willing to take. But I believe most sane people wouldn’t sneeze or cough on their hairdressser. This courtesy should be mutual.

DianaT1969 · 19/03/2020 21:27

Not due to the virus, but long before, I bought clippers in Argos for around £12 and they are excellent. Easy to use because the guides keep the blade away from your head. I get a good result.

NoSauce · 19/03/2020 22:19

LikeDuhWhatever the point I was trying to make was that even if your hairdresser was “careful” it doesn’t mean that other clients will be. It’s too risky.

Gingerkittykat · 20/03/2020 02:01

This thread shows exactly why we need to go into lockdown.

People getting their hair and nails done are putting the rest of us at risk.

blubellsarebells · 20/03/2020 02:22

All these people with hairdressers and cleaners.
Its a different world to the one i live in.
I do try to have semi regular cuts because i keep my hair quite short.
Cleaner, no chance.
My ds has disinfected all the door handles today and will do every day hes not in school, he will also be learning how to Hoover dust and clean a bathroom.
If only i had to worry if my imaginary cleaner could still come.

Wingedharpy · 20/03/2020 02:31

Can think of nowhere worse to be while there is an airborne viral pandemic in progress, than a hairdressers!
Stop it at once and go home.

daisypond · 20/03/2020 02:35

Cancel both

alexdgr8 · 20/03/2020 02:45

surely if you are all at home, you can do your own cleaning.
it is good exercise and will help to pass the time.
of course i mean you in the plural, everyone confined to the home can have a role in household management.

to the person worrying about her daughter;s fringe, is this serious, can you not cut it yourself. plenty of time to grow and have another go, not going to any parties for a while. first world problems indeed. and sounds like spoilt children to be fussing about such nonsense. a stern talking to would be happening here.

daisypond · 20/03/2020 02:49

Yes, the fringe one is weird. Who takes their small child to a hairdresser to have their fringe cut?

purpleme12 · 20/03/2020 06:22

Lol quite a lot of people take their child to three hairdressers to get their fringe cut!

purpleme12 · 20/03/2020 06:26

These comments saying my child is spoilt cos she wanted her fringe cut actually made me laugh. Yes my child wanting her fringe cut definitely means she's spoilt! And no I didn't give her stern talking to for wanting her fringe I simply decided that in the end we wouldn't go and I explained why. Funnily enough this was the right thing to do rather than giving her a 'stern talking to.'

purpleme12 · 20/03/2020 06:29

I'm pretty sure that we all want to do things we can't at the minute so it's a bit baffling why my child wanting to have her fringe cut is different. Being a child she's too young to know the illness being connected to things like this

daisypond · 20/03/2020 06:54

Lol quite a lot of people take their child to three hairdressers to get their fringe cut!
Only the very wealthy with money to burn.

purpleme12 · 20/03/2020 07:30

Ok you must be right other people are incapable of deciding to spend £5 on a fringe cut and not spending that £5 elsewhere
What a stupid comment

hopeishere · 20/03/2020 13:18

My hairdresser will trim your fringe for free!

I cancelled the cleaner.
