Is your private nursery closing from Friday?
Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 18/03/2020 19:11
I know council run ones are closing. What are the private ones doing? Not got hold of mine yet
NannyPear · 18/03/2020 19:12
Don't know yet. Mine don't know themselves and are waiting on clarity from the government. I'm hoping not but sadly expecting it.
Roomarmoset · 18/03/2020 19:18
I haven't heard yet, I'm definitely worried as I will have to take unpaid leave 😫
OpticVA · 18/03/2020 19:19
Haven’t heard yet, would be surprised if they didn’t though tbh. Are you all expecting to s have to pay fees if they do?
Elizadoeslittle19 · 18/03/2020 19:19
They said at pick up today they weren't sure. They had seen the information about schools and were waiting for more information. I expect they will close on Friday.
ListenLinda · 18/03/2020 19:20
Haven’t heard yet. Expecting them to though as a lot of the staff have school aged children
ListenLinda · 18/03/2020 19:21
Not sure @OpticVA but I wouldn’t mind paying a contribution.
NannyPear · 18/03/2020 19:23
BoJo did mention funding/financial help to private schools and nurseries didn't he? I'm hoping that will cover for our fees so that we don't have to both pay fees and lose out for taking unpaid leave :( I would love to be able to support the nursery and it's fabulous workers but I truly can't.
babychange12 · 18/03/2020 19:25
Interested to know as well if we will need to pay or not. Such crazy times
OpticVA · 18/03/2020 19:29
Same here @NannyPear I just can’t afford not to work and still have to pay. Would be happy pay a contribution but there’s no way full fees are doable. Very worrying.
scrivette · 18/03/2020 19:31
Haven't heard from them yet. I wonder if they will see how many parents want them to remain open first.
PirateWeasel · 18/03/2020 19:32
Ours is closing end of day Friday 🙁 They haven't said anything about fees yet, presumably because they need a day or so to get their government funding in order.
Thefaceofboe · 18/03/2020 19:37
Ours is closing but staying open for the children of key workers (as far as I know!) I don’t know how this will work exactly but I imagine they will clarify at some point tomorrow.
Thegirlhasnoname · 18/03/2020 19:41
Ours is staying open for as long as they are legally allowed to and within ratios, according to a post they made on Facebook 10 minutes ago, as Boris just said that they SHOULD close but don’t technically need to.
Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 18/03/2020 19:48
@OpticVA ours is a huge chain, not a small independent place. So I definitely don’t feel parents should have to pay full fees, if any.
I will check my contract but imagine it does not cover such closures....
Obviously I want nursery staff to continue getting paid though.
A lot of parents simply won’t be able to afford to pay fees for a closed nursery if they are having to take unpaid leave.
NewNameChange2020 · 18/03/2020 19:55
Ours is small and independent. They've emailed saying they'll let us know their position in the morning. I'm unable to work at my small business now and my husband's small business is seeing dwindling sales day by day. We can probably afford next month's fees but after that who knows. I really hope they don't expect us to keep paying 100% of the fees if they shut.
NannyPear · 18/03/2020 19:55
The wording of my contract is, essentially, "no refunds will be given if the nursery should close in the event of a natural disaster, infectious disease etc". No refunds surely mean I wouldn't be able to get back the rest of March, but it doesn't mean I need to pay for April surely? Should find out more tomorrow.
Oysterbabe · 18/03/2020 20:00
Ours is closing. We'll pay our month's notice then pull them out as it'll be 3 months minimum. I'm sure they'll take us back if necessary.
Sleeplessnights1234 · 18/03/2020 20:03
Just checked the terms and conditions for my sons nursery (big chain) - If the nursery that your child attends has to close or we take the decision to close due to events or circumstances which are outside our control, we shall be under no obligation to provide alternative childcare facilities to you. If the closure exceeds 3 days in duration (excluding any days when the nursery would otherwise be closed), we will credit you with an amount that represents the number of days the nursery is closed in excess of 3 days.
Drogonssmile · 18/03/2020 20:04
I'm not sure what's happening with ours. I work in the NHS (admin side) and ours is a private nursery for hospital staff only so I really hope they're going to be able to stay open.
Majority of the staff are young women with no dependants or older women with grown up kids so unless they're ill, the staff ratios should be ok.
The manager said she'd written to the authorities and MPs etc to plead her case ........I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. I don't even know if I qualify as a key worker as I'm administration staff.
iwanttoshakesomeppl · 18/03/2020 20:05
I've not heard anything and I've just paid April's invoice. DD not back in until Monday so hopefully we hear in an email tomorrow.
