How long do you think it'll be until food stocks are better?

Surely at some point most people will have to think they have enough loo roll or baked beans to last a month or 2 and stop!

I know the supermarkets say they keep restocking but from posts I see it's going out again as fast as it comes in.

There is nothing wrong with food stocks, its the selfish hysterical twat's who are causing the issue.

GymMummyBunny · 18/03/2020 15:25

From what I heard the supermarket’s distribution centres are very low on stock as a lot of stuff is not coming in due to lock down in other countries and factories being low on staff.

Quite worried on what this will look like in a few weeks.

GreyishDays · 18/03/2020 15:26

I don’t think that’s true for my local supermarket. It’s getting fully stocked each morning, it’s just getting cleared out.

IndecentFeminist · 18/03/2020 15:28

I reckon within a week or so they'll catch up

VivaLeBeaver · 18/03/2020 15:29

So stocks on the shelves. Which is kind of what counts.

SilverySurfer · 18/03/2020 15:30

It's not the shelves aren't being stocked it's the utterly selfish cretins who are emptying them. I hope all their food rots and they go hungry.

Jollitwiglet · 18/03/2020 15:32

Hopefully people will very shortly start actually eating all the food they have bought rather than just keep buying more. Maybe then there will be food back on the shelves.

Jollitwiglet · 18/03/2020 15:34

I wonder how many people that have ransacked the baking section will actually do some baking. I hope not, but I'm expecting there to be a lot of food waste after all this. especially of people are buying stuff they wouldn't normally eat

Tarttlet · 18/03/2020 15:35

@GymMummyBunny what's your source for that claim?

Teateaandmoretea · 18/03/2020 15:35

From what I heard the supermarket’s distribution centres are very low on stock as a lot of stuff is not coming in due to lock down in other countries and factories being low on staff.

I heard the opposite and that the issue is there is a limit on the number of lorries and therefore the amount that can actually be delivered to supermarkets.

GreenWheat · 18/03/2020 15:35

I think the combination of stricter buying limits and increased capacity in the form of employing more staff from the pool of those made redundant from hospitality roles will steady the supply chain within a fortnight.

Almahart · 18/03/2020 15:38

I think it’s getting a little better. I saw cashier at my Sainsbury’s tell someone trying to buy seven cans of fish that only three would scan through. No one was doing loads of hoarding today.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 18/03/2020 15:40

I'm trying to be optimistic that when I do my regular shop tomorrow it will be better due to restrictions getting tighter. I'm going to split the allowance between three shops as I'm getting some bits for my parents and also a neighbour who's quarantined. I'll be that annoying fecker with x 3 dividers paying in x 3 different transactions so I can give them the receipts Confused

SueEllenMishke · 18/03/2020 15:41

My delivery from Sainsbury's was pretty much as I ordered today - my usual delivery and delivery day. I picked up the missing items from my local corner shop which was fully stocked.
My delivery driver said they there is no issue with stock. It's just selfish people buying more than they need.

OhMy05 · 18/03/2020 15:43

There’s been no reported shortage of food stocks anywhere- if there was even a hint of it the media would have been all over it and caused even more panic.

viccat · 18/03/2020 15:44

I'm hoping once the government gives us a clearer picture of what to expect in the coming weeks, this will become the new normal to some extent and the panic will subside... Currently there are so many rumours of complete lock downs and all sorts that people are understandably worried and buying enough to last them in any scenario.

It's easy to judge the "panic buyers" but most of them are surely doing it because they are genuinely worried. No one is buying extra to intentionally leave others without.

Radarred · 18/03/2020 15:44

I have a few extra things but definitely haven't stockpiled. I worry I won't be able to get what I need when I try next week. I hope the rationing makes it better.

Eckhart · 18/03/2020 15:47

I think it'll be ok within a week or two. Supermarkets are rationing now, so nobody's going home with 743 toilet rolls any more. That's what caused the problem.

Froq · 18/03/2020 15:51

As long as there are selfish twats roaming the shops, the shelves will be empty.

I overheard a conversation between an elderly couple at Tesco this morning. They were struggling to afford items and having to make sacrifices as their usual items were not available. So they were left with having to choose between getting the more expensive substitutes, thus limiting their funds for other essentials, or going without.

Meanwhile other shoppers were navigating the new rationing limits by either sending individual members of their family in or making repeat visits.

showgirl63 · 18/03/2020 15:54

Supermarkets are working with suppliers to prioritise what is needed (not wanted) ie simplifying range choices to get bulk volumes through network efficiently- ie stock coming in ok

The deliveries from depots to branches is being managed along similar principles but there are a finite number of wagons and drivers hours. It's helped that in branches where there were delivery time restrictions these are being relaxed

Reducing store opening hours allows staff to get the delivered stock onto the shelves efficiently - if there are gaps, even if there is stock in the back room encourages panic buying of similar. Add in the limits at tills and we should see things getting better every day

Nquartz · 18/03/2020 15:55

Hopefully once we are locked down & people are restricted on going out supply will return to more normal levels

userxx · 18/03/2020 15:57

@SilverySurfer Me too. Lets hope it give's them the wild shits :)

notthemum · 18/03/2020 16:02

@Tell me when
Ha ha, I am glad I am not the only "annoying fecker" who is doing that.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/03/2020 16:10

I’m just worried that even with supermarkets saying no more than 3x of an item some people will just put stuff in the car and go back in again.

OP posts:
devildeepbluesea · 18/03/2020 16:12

If this continues supply chains will be inevitably hit. Wouldn't surprise me if we get a form of rationing.
