Direct contradiction on Government advice page.

does anyone else think it is slightly concerning that the Government advice page actually contains clearly contradictory information? How can they not even check that what is published is consistent?
And we are trusting these people to guide us and keep us safe.....
From the main messages section:
"•if you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill"

However from the part on ending self isolation:
"After 7 days, if the first person to become ill feels better and no longer has a high temperature, they can return to their normal routine."

so, if you're the first person ill do you self isolate for 7 or 14 days? Who knows? Not the Government apparently!

My work ( school) have definitely got me off to a fortnight.

But that advice definitely says I can go out after 7 days.

Tbh , I think the UK might be working very differently by then anyway.

PhoneLock · 18/03/2020 11:42

My work are certainly expecting me back in after a week

My husband is currently very unwell with something that could be CV (who knows?) His symptoms started 6 days ago and he's been bed ridden for 5 days. Sleeping for 21 hours and barely awake for the remaining 3. In that time he has eaten a ham sandwich and two slices of toast. I somehow doubt that he will be fit for work after a week.

LemonScentedStickyBat · 18/03/2020 11:46

Yes, I think the symptomatic person is ok to go out after 7 days but dd’s school thinks otherwise.

Bufferingkisses · 18/03/2020 11:51

Well my lovely GP called me anyway (checking I didn't need antibiotics for a chest infection). He says that they expect the advice to be clarified today and that they expect that to be 14 days for all in a household. 7 or until well for those in solitary isolation.

We shall see. Personally I don't think they intend clarifying anything if they can help it.

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2020 11:56

phone your DH sounds exactly like me.

I have had three Lotus Biscoffs and a slice of toast since Saturday midday.

Oddly enough, a cup of tea helps my breathing!

Hope he feels better soon : I am on day 4 and reckon if it weren't for Covid situation, I might ordinarily have stayed off work another day or two. Hard to say, as I am a teacher and , boy do we do presenteeism!

Chloemol · 18/03/2020 12:03

It’s clear

If you have symptoms you isolate for 7 days but all other family members isolate for 14 days as that’s how long it could take them to show symptoms. If they then show symptoms they then self isolate for 7 days

So

A shows symptoms on day 1

B and c then isolate for 14 days starting from day 1

If A is better after 7 days they can return to work as it’s considered they are no longer able to pass it on

B and C remain at home until day 15 ( so 14 days off)

However on day 10 B shows symptoms so they then start a further 7 day isolation period

On Day 15 C is ok and goes to work

On day 18 B has recovered, had the 7 days and goes to work

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2020 12:13

I am A. I have been told 14 days!

Don't want to go anywhere anyway. But there will be other As who want to, say, shop, after 10-11 days.

I agree with what you have posted in terms of that is what it says on NHS website but this is not what Boris said, or other 'experts', such as the man I spoke to on the phone yesterday.

Bufferingkisses · 18/03/2020 12:13

Where does it say that on these pages?

We can all read and understand that one page, it's not a stupidity issue. The problem is that people are being directed to another two pages which say something very different. Making it not clear.

I want that lovely doctor who got ill to come on here and explain. She'll know!
At some point I read that after 7 days you can mix with your family (ie I can go downstairs) but that advice has vanished now.

bigbluebus · 18/03/2020 13:00

And someone answering questions on the BBC breakfast sofa this morning said if a 2nd person in the household shows symptoms then the 14 day period starts again! Didn't catch who he was but it's no wonder people are confused.

Bufferingkisses · 18/03/2020 17:32

Boris just clearly stated "7 days isolation if you develop symptoms. If you are part of a household 14 days isolation for the whole household "

My brain may explode.
