Has anyone been confirmed positive?

isitorisntit · 18/03/2020 08:36

Hi, name changed. Has anyone out there been confirmed as positive who can shed light on my symptoms? Frustrating not knowing - how will I know if the next cough is safe or not? So many symptoms, feel poorly, but all they talk about is a cough and temp. Thanks.

I'm off work and my family are self isolating.

Fri afternoon- Sore chest and base of throat. Dry cough. Temp OK.

Weekend- Tight chest, temp OK. Dry cough. Business as normal.

Monday- over an hour or so- dizzy head, shooting pains in limbs, tight painful chest, dry cough, fatigued, raised temp (high 37s)

Tues- Shallow breathing, racing heart, temp mid-high 37s. Cough looser, blood taste (no blood).

Today- Pain and aches in every bone in my body. Stuffy nostril (just the one).

Whatever it is, it's nasty. Does it sound like it to you?

Thanks.

It could be and there’s no widespread testing so best to assume that you’re infected. Follow the latest guidance on 14 days isolation and you’ll be doing everyone a favour including the vulnerable and NHS staff.
I hope you feel better soon.

Purpletigers · 18/03/2020 09:32

If you’re able to type on here then it’s unlikely but I honestly don’t know . I imagine it’s similar but worse than a bad flu . When I had the flu I was bed bound for days . Could you pick a £50 note off the floor beside your bed ? That’s a good test of how sick you are .

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 18/03/2020 09:33

Following.

We ended up in hospital via ambulance but they wouldn't test unless he needed to be admitted.
They ruled out meningitis so we went home.

Whoever says it's mild for children is wrong. It's absolutely brutal.

Purpletigers · 18/03/2020 09:33

Also I hope you feel better soon .

Purpletigers · 18/03/2020 09:34

Oh my goodness Don’tbite. What age is your little one ? Wishing them a speedy recovery.

Worriedmum54321 · 18/03/2020 09:37

I had flu last year and could definitely have picked up a 50 pound note. I was tested so it was definitely flu. I could still hobble round the house and eat bowls of cereal. So it isn't always that bad.
Similarly, this virus doesn't always cause severe illness. If in doubt self isolate. Hopefully there will soon be a test for previous infection

Please don't spread this irresponsible bollocks.

Covid-19 is very variable in symptoms, and it is going to need all hands on deck to delay the spread. False reassurance to the OP or other people like her reading the thread may lead to other people dying.

Typing really isn't that hard, and it doesn't serve to identify what kind of virus anyone has.

edenhills · 18/03/2020 09:38

My friend has tested positive. She described it feeling like the worse flu of her life. Her husband and DS5 showed no symptoms. Her DS7 had a cough only.

Yet more misinformation!

It could be, symptoms seem to vary, so self isolate and get well.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 18/03/2020 09:41

No! That's so wrong!
People have various strengts of symptoms. You can't tell people"if you can type you don't have the virus". This will just make people with mild symptoms keep quiet and keep spreading!

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 18/03/2020 09:42

I see i x posted with many

xILikeJamx · 18/03/2020 09:46

Can't post link as I'm at work, but check out a thread by @GoughCJ on Twitter (popped up on my feed randomly this morning) - he's had it and describes the symptoms in detail day by day.

Sounds pretty similar to what you're describing.

It sounds like you need to self isolate. Could be total coincidence but you shouldn’t be risking it.

littlepeas · 18/03/2020 09:48

I’ve heard from those who have likely had it, but not been officially tested (3 people in total - all reporting similarly) that it is like a short, sharp flu.

BlueMoon1103 · 18/03/2020 09:53

Seems like no matter what your symptoms are you need to self isolate now, that’s the only advice anyone is getting no matter what they say they’re experiencing.

mnthrowaway202020 · 18/03/2020 09:56

If you’re able to type on here then it’s unlikely but I honestly don’t know .

So why bother posting? Such a USELESS post - there are people that have tested positive and have had NO symptoms so clearly your “logic” is flawed.

Could you pick a £50 note off the floor beside your bed ? That’s a good test of how sick you are

The people that are the most at risk of severe symptoms are the elderly or those with pre-existing conditions, the majority of adults will be able to survive this. Meaning that the majority of adults will experience symptoms ranging from mild to flu-like for a few weeks. So - this might shock you - the majority of people will be able to pick something up off of the floor. Hmm

So again, your logic is not a good measure of how sick someone is. If it’s a note on my bedroom floor I wouldn’t be in a rush to pick it up under any circumstances - it’s mine, no ones rooting through my room so no need for urgency?

20viona · 18/03/2020 09:56

@Purpletigers that so inaccurate. Idris Elba has confirmed positive and Zero symptoms!

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 18/03/2020 09:57

You should self isolate whether it is covid or not at this point. Either you have it or you are now vulnerable due to other illness.

Amanduh · 18/03/2020 10:00

Nobody on here can tell you. You could have all the symptoms, none, or a few. Some people have had mild cold symptoms with it and felt like they could absolutely carry on as normal, some people felt a bit rough, some feel like they’re dying.
There’s nothing you can do anyway except rest, isolate, drink fluids and take paracetamol.

opticaldelusion · 18/03/2020 10:02

I wish we could move past this £50 bullshit about flu. It's not accurate for influenza (which can vary enormously) let alone for an illness that's NOT EVEN INFLUENZA.

COVID-19 is not flu ffs. It's not caused by the same type of virus.

PotholeParadise · 18/03/2020 10:05

Our family is in self-isolation due to germy offspring catching something that caused a fever and a cough. He was very lethargic for a day or so, and got through a lot of painkillers for the discomfort, before perking right up.

Since then, I've been having something that causes a weird tight, very slightly burny feeling in my chest. I've never had anything like it before, but I otherwise have no other symptoms and I'm so much less ill than he was.

The lesson here is that viruses affect different people differently, and also I shouldn't let the grandparents come over for two weeks.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/03/2020 10:14

There are some people who don't even know they have it and are totally asymptomatic. So that is a lot of nonsense about the note etc.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 18/03/2020 10:15

There were people on the cruise ship who tested positive and had NO symptoms at all so please stop spreading such crap!

OP - whether you have it or not, you have symptoms so make sure you isolate and follow the guidelines. If peopLe in your family are going out for food etc they should wear mask/gloves IMO as likely they have it or are going to get it too.

Spud1802 · 18/03/2020 10:16

I wish we could move past this £50 bullshit about flu.

This! My partner is in hospital and has (lab-tested so that they know it isn't Covid19) flu - not to mention that he contracted the flu in hospital where he was already admitted with another serious illness. He was picking up the wet tissues he had dropped on the floor, never mind a £50 note.

I think the hypothetical £50 test is completely meaningless - I have dragged myself out of bed and done the school run, on foot, both ways at each end of the day when I've rarely felt more ill in my life with what had to be flu, simply because there was no alternative and no one else to do it. It says more about necessity and/or motivation, not to mention that the symptoms (of both flu and Covid19) can vary from nil to minimal to awful to life-threateningly serious.

daisypond · 18/03/2020 10:18

Unbelievable utter rubbish. Irresponsible, virtually criminal, to spread such lies in these times.
