Just woke up to my little girl coughing and gasping for breath. Waiting for ambulance but it will be a long wait they said. So scared

Did you tell them all her symptoms?
Is there another, quicker way you can get her there?

chardonayforme · 18/03/2020 00:08

Doesn't sound good but she is young so hopefully be okay! It's older people
Who are more at risk of dying etc. What's her temperature??

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 00:10

Don't panic op. Children are good at fighting this x

Can you get her to a hospital any other way? Has she been ill or is this new?

TangoWhisky · 18/03/2020 00:11

Christ @chardonayforme
Bit harsh !!!

Anyway, This is not necessary coronvirus ..
It could be anything

zigzagbetty · 18/03/2020 00:12

Temp is saying 37 but it a cheap therometer. She Is managing to get words out now in between gasps, at first she just couldn't breath. She's calmed down but her breathing is shallow.

Hoping its croup or something else

GrumpyHoonMain · 18/03/2020 00:13

Try holding her against your chest, it might help provide her some support when she coughs and help with the gasping if she can match your breaths.

zigzagbetty · 18/03/2020 00:13

Totally new, she went to bed fine, bouncing around

OP posts:
TangoWhisky · 18/03/2020 00:13

Sit her up and try to take her mind off her breathing.

Get off mumsnet and read to her / distract her

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 18/03/2020 00:14

Aww bless her, stay calm. Keep her airways open as best you can sitting her on your lap. How long for an ambulance

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 00:14

Get her to drink something and keep her calm and rested.

Put her favourite TV on and snuggle up together xx

BlackeyedSusan · 18/03/2020 00:18

Sit her up and lean her slightly forward.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/03/2020 00:22

You need some steam. Run a hot shower, so the bathroom steams up and sit in there with her. Not in the shower, just in the steamy bathroom.

chardonayforme · 18/03/2020 00:23

@tango
I did think that I came across a bit full on but wasn't sure, now I am, do apologies didn't mean it to sound like thatBlushGrin

bemoreeverything · 18/03/2020 00:26

I hope the ambulance get to you real soon OP. I don't think it's helpful, particularly now, for anyone to try and diagnose this.

@Katri999 ffs. Where else will she find help at this time.

Not needed.

Bingeslayer · 18/03/2020 00:36

I second croup, this is what my daughter sounds like when she gets it.

UsernameUnknownn · 18/03/2020 00:39

If you can i would try and put her in a recovery position with her chin titled upwards to open up the airways.

UsernameUnknownn · 18/03/2020 00:40

Katri and clearly spelling isn't yours. Stop being judging and move along.

UsernameUnknownn · 18/03/2020 00:41

Didn't meant to put being 😂

Safiyah2020 · 18/03/2020 00:41

Hope all is well OP. Prayers are with you.

DressingGownofDoom · 18/03/2020 00:42

I'd stick to advice for croup. Sit outside on the doorstep with her sitting up on your lap. Hope everything's ok.

dizzydora79 · 18/03/2020 00:42

My 8yr old still gets croup. I've been advised against steamy bathroom, take her to back door for fresh air instead, helps my son every time.
