A polite request to all stockpilers of the UK, I’m sure I speak for the thousands in my position but as a frontline NHS worker part of a dedicated & very tired team looking after increasingly numbers of CV patients please leave something on the shelves for us as we head home after 12hr shifts, just called in my local Sainsburys for a few bits to find all shelves/fridges/freezers bare/1 or 2 of some items.....lets share the love (or loo roll or pasta)! šŸ¤—

I’ve got a Young dd and no day time support as parents are stuck in New Zealand, if a friend helps me so I can go after work there’s always nothing left for me :( know how you feel!

Stuffofawesome · 17/03/2020 20:20

Thanks for all you do. Hope you find what you need

Raella50 · 17/03/2020 20:22

Struggled to find any nappies for my baby today. Saw a woman with masses of them in her trolley at the supermarket and she pretty much ran off to the tills when she saw me checking shelves. Disgraceful.

Randomschoolworker19 · 17/03/2020 20:23

I've found corner shops to be an absolute blessing! Can't get toilet roll in big supermarkets for love nor money but my locals seem to be okay. You pay more but that's a given given the demand but at least you can get stuff.

Lightsunbeam · 17/03/2020 20:28

If you have a local high street, then maybe try there if you can get to one before it closes? My smaller local shops are still well(ish) stocked, but I haven’t dared venture into a supermarket!

People are acting very scared. And there’s enough for everyone if they just shop normally.

Also - on Facebook there are loads of groups who are keen to help. Can you connect to your local Facebook Covid-19 local support network? Because I bet someone would be more than happy to shop for you during the day while you’re at work. If you lived local to me (north london?) then I absolutely would/ will!

I hope you manage to find the things you need - thank you for the amazing work you do in the nhs Flowers

Drivemybluecar · 17/03/2020 20:28

Sounds silly. But check the little village shops. I live in a small village and the little shop here has everything. So if ur desperate have a drive around outside of town

EmbarrassingMama · 17/03/2020 20:42

Please consider reusable nappies and wipes? Being stressed about lack of nappies is utterly horrible but there are alternatives you wont run out of.

Sorry about all the other stuff. It's rotten and you deserve better. xx

Arseit · 17/03/2020 20:45

Agree with @Randomschoolworker19, my local corner shop has been far better stocked than my local supermarket. Definitely worth popping in if you have some nearby.

KatherineJaneway · 17/03/2020 20:46

Try asking on your local Facebook page, lots of people are setting up help groups.

If you are on Facebook, ask for help from all your freinds / family.

People will help if you ask.

Sparrowlegs248 · 17/03/2020 20:46

My local "corner" shop had about 20 bags of pasta when all the supermarkets were out. They had loo roll too!

Arseit · 17/03/2020 20:47

Totally disagree with stockpiling by the way.
And thank you @missmeg3leg for all your hard work.

Popuppippa · 17/03/2020 20:50

Try NextDoor app or online. On my local group there are constant offers to collect shopping and prescriptions for those unable to.

Also, totally agree with using corner shops. We're in London and the supermarkets are scary but our nearest Turkish minimart is well stocked with everything.

FrankiesKnuckle · 17/03/2020 20:51

This!!
With bells on!!

I'm on lates all week - paramedic- I finish at midnight and I was hoping to get a few (and I mean a few!) bits on my way home, y'know to enable me to eat at work, to feed my child, general sustenance.
Except due to the panic, the 24hr supermarkets are all closing their doors before 12am. Every night.

Thanks a fucking bunch.

AmIAWeed · 17/03/2020 20:51

Unless you live in my tiny village of 140 houses this is no help but myself and other volunteers are offering to shop for those self isolating, right before hitting print we extended this to those working on the front line. I've no idea how the shops and stock will continue/recover but I've 360 uht catering size milks and teabags so of nothing else I can ensure our emergency staff have a cuppa.
I guess all I can ask is that you talk to a neighbor or look out on Facebook as there's lots of offers for help online and I am sure people won't restrict that to people self isolating

Busymummy16 · 17/03/2020 20:52

Have you got any Facebook groups or WhatsApp groups for local residents? We have one for our road and everyone pulling together - ask about and see if anyone can either get you some shopping or ask which shops have stock- small shops are best for stock at the moment I think. Best of luck and thank you so much for what you are doing. You all deserve a medal šŸ’

rosegoldwatcher · 17/03/2020 20:53

The stockpiles are not going to stop. Government need to bring in some sort of equable rationing soon.

AmIAWeed · 17/03/2020 20:53

Oh just to add, we run a monthly coffee shop so catering supplies aren't panic bought!

Ouch44 · 17/03/2020 20:53

Yes there are lots of groups on Facebook. I think there is some way of looking up the local one near you. I will investigate.

We also have lots of independent shops who will deliver veg, butchers, the milkman round here delivers not just milk.

My DH works in A&E and has seen CV patients so know how stressful it is. It must be horrible for you to have to try and find food before you can even get home to recharge and relax.

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 17/03/2020 20:54

Get in touch with your nearest mutual aid group, they will sort you out with whatever you need. They're advertised as existing to help people who are self isolating, but they will help you too I guarantee.

nildesparandum · 17/03/2020 20:57

Someone on my local Facebook cheap shop had put 300 nappies for sale as her baby was now too big for them.
She could have been telling the truth.

Dandydoodle · 17/03/2020 21:02

It's disgusting how much some people are buying but the stores MUST put restrictions in place. They are not helping the problem.

I was down to my last toilet roll today and so was very pleased to find some in my local Lidl. They were restricting them to 1 per customer which I really do think is a good idea.

This virus is really making people show their true colours. It's awful how low some parts of our society have become.

Ouch44 · 17/03/2020 21:04

DishingOutDone · 17/03/2020 21:05

There's a whole thread going on about how people are not being greedy its just that they need a little bit more for their families and its not their fault ....!!

Dramadrama · 17/03/2020 21:08

Yes, also people who don’t have coeliac, stop hoarding GF bread! I can’t buy it online for my son with coeliac, who is self- isolating with us because of a cough. Even before he came home the GF shelves were bare.

Hellokittymania · 17/03/2020 21:09

Special needs here, and I was crying my head off yesterday morning. This whole thing is getting to me. Not to mention, I can’t order anything online because there are no slots. Please think about those of us who find it very hard to shop, to move around to other places to find what we’re looking for when everything else is run out, and some of us who need certain foods, and on our unable to get them now.
