Should we self isolate?

My child has a cough and had a very slight temp yesterday but didn't require medication. He no longer has temp, but has a persistent cough, he went to school with the cough, his teacher ensured he was well hydrated. I thought the schoo may call me to come collect Dc, but they did not. He's obviously just got a normal viral cough, my other child had it before the corona business, I then had it and now my husband and this dchild. Coughs take months to get better, I still have mine slightly. Dh keeps commenting how we as a family should self isolate, however I don't think we should right?? Am I wrong?

Before a lot of people start saying I should think of the elderly vulnerable, it's a normal cough, so in reality this cough wouldn't be an issue if we didn't have Coronavirus going around.

The rules are very clear. Yes you should be isolating

ChristmasTree999 · 17/03/2020 18:22

You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried. Keep your whole family inside for 14 days.

NuffingChora · 17/03/2020 18:23

For the love of God......

“Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home if you have either:

a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
a new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home.

How long to stay at home
if you have symptoms, stay at home for 7 days
if you live with other people, they should stay at home for 14 days from the day the first person got symptoms”

JUST. FOLLOW. THE. DAMN. GUIDANCE.

MrsTWH · 17/03/2020 18:23

Yes you should be at home.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 17/03/2020 18:23

Yep you now all need to isolate for 14days as per the NHS guidelines.

Wilmalovescake · 17/03/2020 18:24

Fuck’s SAKE.
NONE of this would be an issue if we didn’t have Coronavirus around!!
ISOLATE.

TokyoSushi · 17/03/2020 18:24

Yes! Of course you should isolate!

CastleCrasher · 17/03/2020 18:24

It's a new persistent cough. Self isolate. Ffs!!

Kay1341 · 17/03/2020 18:25

One of the reasons why this keeps spreading so rapidly is that mentality of 'It's just a cough'.

Simba999 · 17/03/2020 18:25

Surely if that was the case, school would have sent him home? Dh has a cough too, his workplace hasn't sent him home either

OP posts:
HuntIdeas · 17/03/2020 18:26

This is why the government needs to do full lockdown - no one ever thinks that the rules apply to them!

Therollockingrogue · 17/03/2020 18:26

Ffs

TypingError · 17/03/2020 18:27

You are wrong. You must isolate

SimonJT · 17/03/2020 18:27

You should isolate for 14 days.

People like you are why illnesses spread and why some countries are having to fine people who are too idiotic to stay inside.

squeakydog · 17/03/2020 18:27

Stop putting people at risk. Why do you think the guidance doesn't apply to you? It's probably a normal cough, but it also might not be and you're putting peoples lives at risk just because you're too moronic to follow simple guidance and think it doesn't apply to you.
For fucks sake.

ChristmasTree999 · 17/03/2020 18:28

Why don’t you make the decision for yourself? Why are you waiting for school or your DH work to make the call?!? It’s too bloody late now you’ve probably passed it on to everyone else 😡

boomboom1234 · 17/03/2020 18:28

I can't believe you sent him in with a cough. The advice is so clear. Stay home. Let's hope he hasn't passed the cough to loads more children and their families. It doesn't matter if it's not corona Boone wants any illnesses at the moment to save the nhs from drowning.

DesLynamsMoustache · 17/03/2020 18:28

Come on. Unless you're totally unable to read, watch TV or listen to the radio, there's no excuse for this type of ignorance. The advice could not be more clear.

What part of it don't you understand, OP? Or why do you think it doesn't apply to you?

WidowTwonky · 17/03/2020 18:28

You are totally wrong

Simba999 · 17/03/2020 18:28

Yeah but I see a lot of children coughing when I do the school runs, the school has been keeping us up to
Date with the virus, so I know they would've sent him home if they were concerned that we should be self isolating

OP posts:
LakieLady · 17/03/2020 18:28

Are you a microbiologist specialising in RNA viruses, OP?

If not, you can't possibly say which particular virus is causing his cough, so follow the guidance and self-isolate.

It's boring as fuck (we're on day 6 of self-isolation due to coughs and fevers) and I'd far rather get up and go out somewhere, but we're not selfish bastards, so we won't.

We're not even getting paid time off work, as we had annual leave booked for these 2 weeks! Thankfully, we hadn't booked anywhere.

Midnightstar11 · 17/03/2020 18:28

This is how it spreads!!!

foamrolling · 17/03/2020 18:28

You shouldn't be relying in school and work to make decisions for you. You're adults. You know what the guidance is, you should be following it. And you really shouldn't have put school in that position.

NoBoojustNo · 17/03/2020 18:29

How many more of these fucking bleating posts do we have to endure?

The advice is very clear and no one is exempt ffs.

It's people like you that are the reason we will more than likely be in full lock down by the weekend.

I no longer have time for the stupid or knobs. Except I do because I can't ignore the actual stupidity of people on these posts.

SimonJT · 17/03/2020 18:29

So, the school are above the government?

If you saw children running around on the road on the school run would you think that was a good idea as well?!
