Covid
NHS staff and HCP. Good luck.

Just wanted to start a thread in case any one else wanted to express their good wishes and support.
Good luck people, we are right behind you rooting for you.
We know how under funded and prepared the NHS is but they aren't factoring on the sheer bullishness NHS staff have to get the job done.
Best of British to you all and thank you for your service. (Which keeps me alive )

One of my friends is an Oncology Specialist for children, now being sent on refresher course for Ward care.......
MrsTerryPratchett · 17/03/2020 15:59
We appreciate you. Awesome all the time, especially now.
PrivateD00r · 17/03/2020 15:59
Thank you. I really wish I could just focus on my job but it seems each day there is an additional blow to add to my stress levels. Today it was notification first thing this morning that our school is closed from today on to prep for closure, then expected to be closed from next week. So no more school. We then booked childcare only to later receive notification that they had decided to close too My husband has had to take some unpaid leave, all so I can go into work where I don't have sufficient PPE to wear, I have asthma and am putting myself at risk.
I am near breaking point and we haven't even really got started yet
I care deeply about my job though and the people I look after so will keep doing my best to get there.
TheQueef · 17/03/2020 16:04
I have nieces and a nephew FL and I'm so proud of them.
One is a MW and is redeployed to a+e BMW she said panic is starting to cause problems already.
They've got a 'Let me at it' attitude, I was so impressed.
midgebabe · 17/03/2020 16:09
So very grateful to them all. And I hope when this is all over we can find ways to show that gratitude
Bobbiepin · 17/03/2020 16:14
Thank you all so much for putting yourselves at risk to help us. You're good to the core. I pray there'll be some recompense for the NHS; surely the government know now we can't do without.
yorkshirecountrylass · 17/03/2020 16:16
It's really kind and believe me appreciated that there is so much support for the NHS, but I have to add that there are many many more workers who are also doing their bit to help those of us in the NHS! I've been really overwhelmed with how local charities and individuals are stepping up and in, suppliers are keeping things moving, those working to keep our children safe while we work. I think if this outbreak has shown anything it's how reliant we all are on the whole community. My parents always taught me that it takes a village to raise a family. I hope if anything that will be the lasting impact of this.
TheQueef · 17/03/2020 16:24
Amen to that Lass it's time to stop #bekind gestures on the internet get off our arses and DO kind.
PrvtDr check Facebook (I'm sure someone will provide a better link) people are gagging to help out, there are area specific groups apparently and options. Honestly see what's available.
Orangelover · 17/03/2020 16:34
Nurse here. I've been through the panic stage, I've put that to one side and I'm now ready to take this on at work! I'm fit, healthy and young and have to think of that and how I can help others.
Let's do what we're trained to do, our best to save lives and look after the sick. And when this is all over I'll be having a few wines
TheQueef · 17/03/2020 16:51
stiff one Orange and have at it. I'm certain that after this people will think hard about how undervalued you are, get rid of the abuse and put back respect for HCP.
Doyouthinktheysaurus · 17/03/2020 17:15
Thank you, I think we need it.
I work with older people and it is really worrying. I am not worried for myself, it's my patients; how we safeguard them whilst not grinding to a complete halt. There are still people needing to come in so we need to keep up with discharge planning but it's now got an added facet of how they get food and supplies when self isolating. And lots of care homes aren't taking new patients so those that need placements will be stuck for longer
And how we keep safe staffing levels.
I'm not one for stress normally but this is getting to me.
SuperlativeScrubs · 17/03/2020 17:17
Thank you. Just got fast-tracked into my new job and had an email asking me to sign up to the Nurse Bank at my old place. They are processing re-appointments within 48 hours of approval.
Anything I can do to support my colleagues, my trusts and the general public.
LJL1 · 17/03/2020 17:20
Another one sending my thanks for everything that you do. You didn't really sign up for this and I can't imagine how scary it is to be on the frontline. You are all amazing.
Jamclag · 17/03/2020 17:26
I just want to say i'm so thankful too for the bravery and dedication of all our HCPs at the moment.
For everyone on the frontline we are all going to owe such a huge debt of gratitude to you. What we can all do now is petition the government to make sure all NHS workers are provided with adequate PPE and access to testing for CV.
This is the very least we owe to people risking their lives for us and I can't believe our government is failing on such a basic level.
TailSpinIntoInsanity · 17/03/2020 17:31
Thank you.
I am a HCA on a medical ward which thankfully is not going to take respiratory patients (high risk patient group).
My colleagues are mostly frightened but determined.
Me, I am terrified and not brave at all!
Jamclag · 17/03/2020 17:37
TailSpin -if you're terrified it actually means you're braver!
Thank you so much - i know I would feel like running the other way too.
MadameJosephine · 17/03/2020 17:42
Thank you. I’m a midwife working in the antenatal clinic at the moment but scared I might be redeployed. Also a single parent and worried about schools closing!
avocadoze · 17/03/2020 17:44
Thank you. We need you, and I am so so grateful for the NHS, for keeping me and my family healthy and for providing impeccable care for a dear relative of mine at the end of life.
TailSpinIntoInsanity · 17/03/2020 17:55
I'm definitely not brave- half tempted to hand my notice in tomorrow and hanker down for a while! (I realise I am very, very lucky to even have that option!)
Jamclag · 17/03/2020 18:01
TailSpin - I wouldn't judge you for it - it's an incredibly difficult choice. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
Thatsabitwierd · 17/03/2020 18:06
I am also a frontline nhs worker and whilst I do appreciate the thanks we are receiving ( & my colleagues are working exceptionally hard - its unprecedented) I feel we need to really appreciate those working in care homes, supported living, home carers etc. Mostly working for minimum wage at a stressful and worrying time with very little thanks. They do a brilliant job for no recognition and hardly any money and will help keep vulnerable people in their homes & healthy. (I am by no means high ranking in the NHS but am lucky to have good sick pay etc should I need it, which many do not)
Motorina · 17/03/2020 18:19
@thatsabitwierd - absolutely, and well said.
Found out today that our service will be providing aerosol generating procedures for Covid positive patients. Details are very much TBC. PPE is promised, but...
I'm scared. I'm ready, but I'm scared.
