Do you think there will be a surge of this?
I noticed all the prices on self catering cottages has just shot up in some touristy places.

I’m in Lake District, national park.

I often stay with my partner in Lancaster and wondering if to pack and go Isolate with him for a few weeks. only a short train journey but not at all sure this is wise

Will people turn up here in droves do you think?

I'm a northerner, familiar with Lancaster, Ambleside & troutbeck. I'm not far away myself.

I'd say you're probably better off in Lancaster. But is their anyway to get a lift? Can your BF come and get you perhaps? My initial thinking is that trains are a bad idea but then again, I'm also hearing that they're empty 🤷🏽‍♀️ so if you seriously watch your hygiene you may be ok.

Hi antibac, I’m already with him at his home as was visiting over weekend.

Already had my stuff moved in to new place last week, but have essentials and work computer here with me. My new home in the lakes is only half ready for a tenant and I am too nervous to go back at this moment. If my WiFi installation and my repairs were cancelled I’d be very uncomfortable.

I'm in Cumbria too. I've noticed many people on Facebook saying their holiday to xyz country has been cancelled so they're coming to the lakes instead! No stay put you silly people!!

MonsterMood · 17/03/2020 16:04

Cornwall has 8 cases too many already.

It's really irresponsible.

AntibacHero · 17/03/2020 16:11

Oh I'm sorry! I must have missed that. Yes, stay there and stay safe.
I can't believe people are still so concerned with their holidays, it's just giving the virus a helping hand 🦠

midnightstar66 · 17/03/2020 16:15

I wondered if the price of camping equipment and campsites might go up.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/03/2020 16:27

^ If you’re still deciding on where to spend your much-deserved holiday this year there’s no better place to be than Cumbria.”

I think we have to get out of the idea of anyone 'deserving' a holiday away from home. It's a luxury.

TheDogsMother · 17/03/2020 16:46

Rural Airbnb host here and I have cancelled guests for the next month.I will cancel more as soon as Airbnb relax the cancellations policy for subsequent months. There are many older people in the area, most of the pubs/cafes/attractions are closed and would be asthmatic me doing the cleaning after each guest. I can't believe people would still want to go on holiday right now.

Sooverthemill · 17/03/2020 17:01

It's unbelievable that they haven't changed that webpage! Given the statement from Dominic Raab today.i can't see where to complain but someone bloody should.

Cherrytangfastic · 17/03/2020 17:54

We're rural (SW) and everyone is seriously worried about this. We have an aging population, one hospital and limited gp practices (like most rural areas).

It's really concerning the elderly in particular, and I don't blame them!

Theworldisfullofgs · 17/03/2020 17:58

People moving to rural areas and the coast is exactly how the virus spread around Italy and Spain.

halcyondays · 17/03/2020 17:59

Think they should be telling people not to go to rural areas if this isn’t where they normally live to avoid pressure on the local hospitals.

Becca19962014 · 17/03/2020 18:06

If there are any hospitals, the one in my county is more a cottage hospital as they send most patients several a hours away to be seen; and transport is no longer covered for anyone in the area. So of you get ill and it's free where you live you'll need a couple of hundred pounds to get to wherever you need to go, which could be home. Emergency ambulance is free, transfer is not.

Last summer registering temporary patients where I live (healthboard wide) was completely suspended due to workload and surgery closures (it's worse now) with people told to ring their own GP for advice/prescriptions to be sent here, if they needed to be seen they went home (or if medical emergency a&e where they'd get sent home for treatment).

Seriously. Not worth it. It's terrifying living rurally in these times as it is.

It's worth noting that the website above isn't the official Cumbria Tourism website, which is GoLakes, instead it's one run by volunteers.
