Do you think there will be a surge of this?
I noticed all the prices on self catering cottages has just shot up in some touristy places.

I’m in Lake District, national park.

I often stay with my partner in Lancaster and wondering if to pack and go Isolate with him for a few weeks. only a short train journey but not at all sure this is wise

Will people turn up here in droves do you think?

The ‘visit Cumbria’ website actually states that you are less likely to catch covid-19 in the lake district

That is fucked up. They should be be allowed to print that, in legal terms.

We are due to go on holiday to the Pembrokeshire coast next Friday. We definitely won’t be going. I’m gutted as we’ve not had a holiday for a year but staying put is the right thing to do.

Musicforsmorks · 17/03/2020 13:55

I do not blame the tourists.

In fact, @Gazelda, I imagine your cottage owner probably kicking themselves wishing you’d made a last minute booking so that they could extract another couple of hundred from you ...

The Norwegian Government is asking citizens with holiday cottages to return home.

userxx · 17/03/2020 14:08

I booked last year to go to the lakes on holiday. Its not until June and if I'm ill I promise i wont come.

Musicforsmorks · 17/03/2020 14:08

I can’t see why our government isn’t trying to stop this.

I support tourism, it keeps my town employed and clean and beautiful, but the hotels, cafes, pubs are suffering massive losses, yet the tourism industry is giving out iffy information to self catering customers.

No idea where I will feel safer at moment.

There are many elderly here, it is worrying.

BanningTheWordNaice · 17/03/2020 14:13

I really hope people aren’t stupid enough to go to Devon etc, Torbay hospital on a good day struggles to cope, let alone if people go down and spread it around a lot of elderly people.

Gertie75 · 17/03/2020 14:22

We've got a touring caravan and a couple of sites on Facebook have posted to say they're open for business and it's easy to socially distance in a caravan or motorhome, they don't appear to take into account the fact that people will be using the local shops.

SirVixofVixHall · 17/03/2020 14:23

user as people are infectious before they become ill that makes no difference whatsoever. Any movement of people contributes to spreading the virus, overloading weak rural health care, and killing people. Is any holiday worth that ?

PlugholePencil · 17/03/2020 14:32

This is one of the reasons why they won’t shut the schools, because when they did in Spain, everyone headed to the coast for a ‘holiday’ and caused a massive spike in cases not just number of infections but the distance and speed it was travelling too.

Becca19962014 · 17/03/2020 15:01

Except some schools have shut already "early for Easter" and this is exactly what people are doing... It's stupid. Yes there are now guidelines to help businesses in Wales, but it's too little too late. My place is worse than the height of summer/Christmas with tourists.

Musicforsmorks · 17/03/2020 15:04

I’ve been staying with my OH in Lancaster this past week and definitely tempted to not go home until things straighten out. I’m terrified of not being able to shop there as I don’t drive.

I work from home and have everything I need here, so may be best not to travel on train/bus at moment.

I’m sorry to hear that becca, it’s scary isn’t it?

I’m staying put in London, its nice and quiet now. Never understood 28 days later cast running off to back of beyond. Just needed to sit tight and wait it out. With a pint.

OrangeSamphire · 17/03/2020 15:17

Well if any second homers trundle down here to Cornwall, don’t expect any healthcare at all if you get sick. There simply aren’t the resources. Stay in your cities and suburbs please.

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 17/03/2020 15:18

I'm in West Cumbria and I'm appalled at the prospect, especially having had first hand experience of our hospital facilities during a time of normal use. I hope they all fuck off home to be honest.

Sooverthemill · 17/03/2020 15:24

It isn't that we dint want people to come and spend money ( god knows we need it) but that health providers work in the assumption that we have x number of residents year round and y number at the peak times. If more than normal come, and get sick, extra pressure is out in services that will struggle to respond. They will respond but it will possibly be slower and we don't have enough beds anyway

ForeverRedSkinhead · 17/03/2020 15:34

I hope that Bourne leisure follow centerparcs and close. We were due to travel to Dorset (haven) from London for Easter , going through a busy train station with our children. We dismissed this some weeks ago as it'd be a very selfish act.

We're happily staying put in our little London borough that currently has few infected people confirmed. Living in a place nowhere as pretty and touristy is something we're definitely appreciating right now.

I hope you get your wish op , people should be staying at home right now.

Becca19962014 · 17/03/2020 15:34

It's been discussed in parliament today. That people need to stop doing this and stay home.

I suspect it'll be ignored though I'd like to think companies and I include some TIC in this to pack in this rediculous notion of trying to get people to visit rural areas.

Lynda07 · 17/03/2020 15:38

People really should stay put unless there are exceptional circumstances, ie a very sick close relative. It's a difficult one but we can still help people from a distance, organise things by telephone, send stuff by courier, etc. I am quite pleased to have been able to do that because, like many others, I was worried about a couple of people but it isn't difficult.

It's really not fair to risk spreading infection even though most of us are not and will not be, infected.

Tough times for us all but - stay at home.

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/03/2020 15:48

The ‘visit Cumbria’ website actually states that you are less likely to catch covid-19 in the lake district

Does it? I've just looked and couldn't see it. Perhaps they've had a change of heart?

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/03/2020 15:49

Someone mentioned that if you go to the Isle of Wight then you need to self isolate for a week on arrival, even if you are a local come back. Any truth in that does anyone know?

Musicforsmorks · 17/03/2020 15:53

Problem for me is, there are a few repairs in need of doing at my home. These are arranged but not immediate. If the tradesmen cancel,I would be very cold and not secure.
I am probably going to stay out here with my partner and go home when.......I am able. It seems less risky all around.
If I go home now I would have to do several train journeys with stuff and would be unable to use my heating or door properly. I also don’t have WiFi installed yet as I only moved in last week.

My feelings go out to anyone moving house right now.

Yes the website are saying there is probably less risk of disease for the elderly and vulnerable in Lake District, that there is no better place to be during the outbreak.

This is fucking irresponsible.
