DH thinks i should antibac my hands every time I sneeze at home

We had an argument this morning about this. (Not getting on well so it's any excuse to argue sadly) but DH thinks I should wash my hands or anti bac every time I sneeze when I'm our own home.
I have allergies & poor sinuses so I'm always sneezing. I don't anti bac after I've sneezed at home as my hands would be raw plus I don't have that much hand sanitiser or the time when looking after my 1 year old.
I do obviously take more care when out & about. My point being that my DH & toddler would surely catch any germs I have living with me anyway? Am I right or wrong?

Does he know the difference between a virus and bacteria...

bemoreeverything · 17/03/2020 13:01

Yes you should. Sneeze into a tissue not your hands. If you do use your hands then of course you need to clean them.

LtJudyHopps · 17/03/2020 13:02

Catch it in a tissue and wash your hands yes. People are anxious right now - even if they live with you, mitigate against things.

ImfinallyaMummy · 17/03/2020 13:03

Probably not. He keeps saying 'catch it bin it kill it' which i totally get but when it's just the 3 of us in our home sharing everything surely if one gets it we will all get it regardless of my sneezes?

Sneeze into a tissue and wash your hands... it'll be irritating if you sneeze a lot, but it's essential.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/03/2020 13:04

Wash your hands you great nana and observe single use tissue, none of this tuck it back up your sleeve bobbins.

Jackanackaglory · 17/03/2020 13:04

You should at least wash your hands.

ImfinallyaMummy · 17/03/2020 13:04

But I don't even have the virus, it's just allergies. I can't even reuse my own tissue??

AmputatedSoul · 17/03/2020 13:05

Of corse you should he washing your hands!
Corona virus or not that's just gross!

ImfinallyaMummy · 17/03/2020 13:08

Oh crikes looks like I need to apologise to him then. Seems I am disgusting after all

Even before all this mess, you should have been sneezing into a tissue, binning it and washing your hands. You may be sneezing because of allergies but nobody wants to come into contact with whatever else might be living in your airways that has affected you yet.

ShootEmUpSarsaparilla · 17/03/2020 13:09

*hasnt

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 17/03/2020 13:09

You don’t need antibac, but washing won’t hurt.

Mlou32 · 17/03/2020 13:09

You should wash your hands. Even when coronavirus isn't going around, do you honestly sneeze, so deposit snot and saliva droplets into your hand and not clean them?

PristineCondition · 17/03/2020 13:10

Honestly, grim.
Wash your hands!

ImfinallyaMummy · 17/03/2020 13:11

I sneeze in a tissue & reuse it. I thought that's what most people did with allergies. I'm sneezing all the time.

OP posts:
lazylinguist · 17/03/2020 13:15

Sorry, but you have no idea whether you have the virus! It can take 14 days to get symptoms after you've been infected. It's not about whether you're 'disgusting'or not. It's about the fact that your allergic sneezing could also be spraying coronavirus around if you've got it but don't know it yet. I'm not sure why that's so hard to understand...

ImfinallyaMummy · 17/03/2020 13:18

@lazylinguist It's not hard to understand at all but as I keep saying, surely DH & LO would get it if I had it anyway regardless of how I sneezed? No?

OP posts:
ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 17/03/2020 13:20

@ImfinallyaMummy not necessarily, not if you practice good hygiene, especially your DH.

If DH has a normal cold or a tummy bug, I don't always catch it despite living in the same house.

FrankieManca · 17/03/2020 13:20

Yes, they will get it regardless, but spit and snot - which sprays out when you sneeze - is pretty gross anyway.

FrankieManca · 17/03/2020 13:22

Also, spit and snot is a very much ore concentrated dose of bacteria than air droplets so likely to deliver a more concentrated load of infection in one go and harder for the recipients immune system to deal with.

This is why they think medics are so susceptible, even though not in high risk groups. They are receiving more highly concentrated doses of infection whether for viral or bacterial infections.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 17/03/2020 13:23

Hahahahaaaa ridiculous. I also have allergies and sneeze perhaps 50-100 times a day. Just sneeze in to your elbow. I just wash or hand gel my hands for the usual reasons.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/03/2020 13:25

But don't waste the anti bac
Use soap.

lazylinguist · 17/03/2020 13:37

surely DH & LO would get it if I had it anyway regardless of how I sneezed? No?

Not necessarily. Every single person in a household doesn't always get an illness from each other. Practising good hygiene will make it less likely.

bemoreeverything · 17/03/2020 13:39

It's disgusting of you to sneeze into your hands and not wash them at the best of times, but the idea that there are only 3 of you and they will 'get it anyway' is quite bizarre. You sound disgusting.
