and still wont close schools to keep our kids safe, its strange and barbaric, and i have lost all faith in our government and will always hate them from this day on.

It's bonkers. Would love to be a fly on the wall, a fly with a tape recorder to record what on earth goes on in their meetings.

MyuMe · 16/03/2020 17:22

Keep your kids off school then

Starbuck8419 · 16/03/2020 17:23

Your kids are perfectly safe at school unless they have health issues.

aquietlifeplease · 16/03/2020 17:23

I would assume they know more about it than the average person on the street does! It's not down to Boris he is taking advice from experts.

Noodlenosefraggle · 16/03/2020 17:24

We had a letter from the school saying if you were keeping children off due to cough or fever it would be an authorised absence for 7 days. It may be 14 days now.

Millymaud · 16/03/2020 17:24

Aren’t we the only European country still open now?

picklemewalnuts · 16/03/2020 17:26

The children are at incredibly low risk, and it allows their parents to man the hospitals, fire engines etc.

SerendipitySunshine · 16/03/2020 17:28

Mine are off school!

souldivachakkakahn · 16/03/2020 17:30

Oops just started another thread about this! My issue is that schools were barely mentioned. Utterly ridiculous.

Aragog · 16/03/2020 17:31

The children may be low risk but are the staff, plus how many will be off? And who covers them?

Dd is off with a cough. Whilst we are sure it's a cold we have to follow the rules. Dh and I went into work today but as of now we can't for a fortnight. For me - that takes me to my school's Easter holidays.

I work in a school, so I'm now not available to teach. A colleague was off today due to a cough - again probably a cold - but new rules means she's off too. We have a pregnant teacher so she now has to stay home.

How many before there's not enough teachers to teach the classes?

And who is classed as vulnerable? They hinted at those who have the flu jab for free? Well that definitely hits more of our staff too.

Partyforone · 16/03/2020 17:31

It seems that this virus is expected to do the rounds every winter, if that correct and children get suffer far less than adults, it makes sense for them to gain immunity now. This thinking is why mumps parties used to be a thing, catching mumps as a man tends to be horrific, often leaving them sterile. It seems to be the best of only two horrid choices. Its easy to judge but personally I wouldn't want to be the person making choices for the country right now.

oldwhyno · 16/03/2020 17:32

ah, another expert

fishonabicycle · 16/03/2020 17:34

It's a fast mutating virus - good chance herd immunity won't work.

NellyGrace · 16/03/2020 17:34

They've said that adults with underlying health conditions should isolate for 12 weeks - but not children with underlying health conditions- children should keep going into school!

Am I supposed to trust this?

No reason was given.

TiredMummyXYZ · 16/03/2020 17:36

They are wanting herd immunity and kids are a low risk group so are good candidates to help with that. Never mind those of us that work in schools with our own health issues or vulnerable family members. Families of kids will just have to hope they are healthy enough if the kids pass it on to them!

TW2013 · 16/03/2020 17:36

Unfortunately I think it will become very disruptive anyway Sarah is off for 14 days because her brother Jonny has a cough, Susie is staying at home although she is fine but her mother has autoimmune disease. Jack has just come back having missed two weeks of school and is totally hyper. Amelia has just come back and is worried about what she has missed. Noah has the constitution of an ox and is now bored because the cover teacher (because Miss Smith is off) is handing out the same sheet he did last week but because no one else did it and so need to catch up, and Miss Smith is too ill to set new work he just has to get on with it. It's as if they have no concept of how a school operates.

Harpingon · 16/03/2020 17:36

I'm more worried about the grandparents who make up nearly 50% of the people picking children up where we are..

GuyFawkesDay · 16/03/2020 17:38

Parents are not keeping kids off.

I've had at least 10 in my room over the course of today with coughs and feeling unwell and parents send them in.

One spray sneezed the desk.

Nickster414 · 16/03/2020 17:39

hasn't Wales Scotland and Ireland closed schools as well or going to be doing,!

OP posts:
StormyClouds · 16/03/2020 17:39

Boris has been clear that schools WILL CLOSE when the time is right. That decision has to be made by experts, not individual teachers, who are not scientists or medical experts.

Oldbutstillgotit · 16/03/2020 17:40

If the DC are off school and the parents work , who looks after the DC ?

Oldbutstillgotit · 16/03/2020 17:42

@ Nickster414 some schools have closed for deep cleaning otherwise they are open. DGS is still at school ( despite his best efforts to stay off!! )

Tootletum · 16/03/2020 17:42

Kids under 10 are in no danger, under 20 very little issue either. If you think they are, then just keep them at home for four months, whatever, if you think their education will withstand it. Or are you just paranoid about every other sheeple?

Oldbutstillgotit · 16/03/2020 17:42

In Scotland

StillbreathingStillhere · 16/03/2020 17:42

We have parents still sending poorly kids in.
