Do you think it’s fine to attend a stag do this weekend?

Just that - do you think stag / hen dos should be avoided at the moment? I have a stag do this weekend and don’t know whether or not to cancel. It’s in a city in the UK.

The pubs might be shut by then anyway

Lauren83 · 16/03/2020 13:41

If it's uk I myself would still go although I expect it would be quiet! I'm going to another ciry for the weekend for my OH birthday and we are planning to go as normal unless we are told otherwise.

WitsEnding · 16/03/2020 13:43

I wouldn't go, and if it was my party I'd cancel it.

user1483387154 · 16/03/2020 13:50

I wouldn't go

burritofan · 16/03/2020 13:51

Of course you should cancel. There isn't a special non-contagious exemption for stag dos.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 16/03/2020 14:00

Go - but maybe tine it down a bit and it low key

Wouldyou8 · 16/03/2020 14:08

Thanks - just to add I am a guest at the stag do.

I'd go

radioband · 16/03/2020 14:14

I went to one the weekend just gone and it was really busy. Much more than I expected it to be.

Exactly. We're at the beginning of a huge pandemic and other countries are closing all pubs, restaurants and non food shops to avoid people mingling and transmitting the virus. And people here are voluntarily going to stag/hen dos Hmm

mineallmine · 16/03/2020 14:21

You should cancel. I'm in Ireland so much more restrictions have been imposed here but WHO advice is to practise social distancing. We all have to pull together, world over, to slow down this virus. Cancel.

inwood · 16/03/2020 14:23

I would t. I have and family had no reason to isolate but why put yourself in that situation.

RickOShay · 16/03/2020 14:24

I wouldn’t go.

user1493494961 · 16/03/2020 14:25

You couldn't make this stuff up.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 16/03/2020 14:27

Until the official advice is to ban stag dos I don’t really see the problem. I understand why someone would choose not to go but while pubs, clubs etc remain open then people are free to visit them for whatever reason they see fit.

Grufallosfriends · 16/03/2020 14:30

Do people not have a sense of moral responsibility? We're all try to slow down the transmission of a virus! The more we mingle, the easier it is for the virus to get passed on!.

Just look at Italy of Spain?!

AlecTrevelyan006 · 16/03/2020 14:36

Social distancing is already happening

The government strategy is based upon reducing social interaction - not a sudden or immediate ban on all movements or gatherings

There may come a time when everything is banned -until then just be sensitive and sensible

And wash your hands

Funny how we have to cancel our fun plans but it's totally fine to get on the packed train to work every day and sit on top of each other in the office!

Wouldyou8 · 16/03/2020 14:46

Exactly. I get a train to Manchester everyday where I am packed in like a sardine, then work in an office building of more than 200 people and my office itself is open-plan with more than 50 people so I’m surprised at getting comments like you couldn’t make this stuff up @user1493494961
Obviously I am concerned to be writing this post, but conflicted given the lack of official advice, my work situation continues without change, my transport, and that pubs remain open to be visited whenever by whoever.

thepeopleversuswork · 16/03/2020 14:57

why would you take the risk?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 16/03/2020 15:17

@tallah exactly this! So on my days off I stay inside and no nothing as it's unsafe.

Then it's fine for me to go to work but only using public transport but working for them 🤷🏼‍♀️

MauriceandAlec · 16/03/2020 15:20

I agree, tallah. There probably won't be a lot of people out anyhow. I'd go.

Grufallosfriends · 16/03/2020 15:32

No, we're all trying to avoid going into the office, avoid taking the train especially at rush hour, I'm trying to work from home as much as possible.

Basically we're all trying to distance ourselves from others as much as possible!

So I certainly wouldn't go to any voluntary group gatherings!

Nice work if you can get it. Plenty of 'we' have no choice.

blue25 · 16/03/2020 15:45

No of course not. I can’t people are even asking this.
